Where does the water disappear to? Is it evaporating?

Rob, where does the water go. Well, some of it might "splash" out of the machine, be on parts when they are removed. Some likely evaporates by normal life. Some might evaporate during the machining process I would assume, as the spark is extremely hot, to "melt" steel. And I'm sure some of it is in the air as a fine invisible mist. Those would be some of my guesses. We might add water once or twice a week depending on how much we use the machine. Hope that answers your question

It sounds like most of your evaporative loss would be captured by placing a lid on it. Food for thought.
