This is one of the BEST races from the inaugural season! The Viper / Vette battle harkens back to Rolex earlier in the year. IT DOES NOT GET BETER THAN THIS!

I remember these days. The sound of the Panoz V8 rumbling pass us at Sears Point will forever be etched as one of my favorite racing memories.

I got to watch the Panoz race at Mosport when I was a kid (not this race, a nice dry one) and the Panoz literally drowned out the sound of every other car it was near, and we spent most of our time at the end of the front straight so lots of fire spewing and rev mixes. One of my best memories and the Panoz became my instant favorite at the time, despite me previously being in love with the R10.

My dad surprised me with an ALMS series race at Mosport around this time. I was so excited because I was a huge fan of Gran Turismo, so I knew most of the cars racing. It was definitely later than this, but the R10 was still king of the hill, and I think the race I saw was the first where one of the Corvette C6's actually BEAT several LMS cars. We had a spot right at the end of the front straight, so we got to hear the loudest noises and see the most fire spewed. No noise on that track shook you to the bone like the Panoz Esperante though...became my instant favorite after that in the game even if it wasnt the best lol.

BoP not necessary!
@TheTalemaster6 жыл бұрын
Well...show me how BoP has really helped anything, haha! Watkins Glen, it was basically Porsche and Ford...just like at Le Mans. Complete washout for everyone else. Hell, why bother having Chevy, Ferrari, BMW, Aston and the rest of the GTE field, lol.
@coliimusic4 жыл бұрын
The classes still had semi-spec regulations. BOP has been a thing since cars were grouped in classes like this, people just attribute fast teams and drivers to bad BOP. Do I wish the racing was a little more lively? Of course, it's never good enough for us race fans. Am I mad at the new GTs for being new? Absolutely not.
@Yoshiman20243 жыл бұрын
@@TheTalemaster BoP isn't even that bad. But people only mention BoP when something happens that negatively affects a race... Most of the time, this isn't even worth mentioning.

This was the best racing. Missed the all conquering Oreca Vipers. If I remember correctly, they had them run skinnier tires to make them less dominant. I think the Vettes had wider tires and lighter weight and a technically illegal 7liter V8. That made the racing closer and much more entertaining. I truly miss these days. Racing today is not as thrilling.
@rugbyguitargod5 ай бұрын
There was nothing illegal about the 7L V8. The naturally aspirated engine size limitation was 8.0L and 4.0L for Turbocharged engines. They did however make the Vipers run restrictors since the V10 made so much power that it would have put it in the same GT1 class as the Porsche GT1 and McLaren F1 GTR which are multi-million dollar programs. They opted to run the restrictors to keep the power within the constraints of GT2/GTS race classes.
@snakebitten69675 ай бұрын
@@rugbyguitargod at the time they ok’d the 7 liter for the Vette, if memory serves, that engine was not in the road car so it was illegal. I believe they had to be production based engines in a current road car to be legally used. BMW did the same thing with the V8 E46. That was supposed to be against the homologation rules if memory serves. So they gave the Vette a technically illegal engine as well as wider tires, adjusted restriction and suspension setup while further handicapping the Viper with skinnier than even stock tires, thus making the rear end prone to wiggle, gave it emphysema with more restriction and added weight. Thats how they killed off the Vipers. Other racing organizations did similar things to the Vipers. Just see the criminal job they did on the Zakspeed Vipers in the VLN lololol. I get it, to some degree. Vipers are OP in pretty much every racing series they enter so there has to be some restrictions to make the racing fair. But when you see the sanctioning bodies resort to allowing other teams to effectively cheat while destroying the competitive ability of the Viper or car X, it stinks. Btw, I love Corvettes, so this isnt some fanboy stuff I’m saying. I’m going off of memory of what was being said and written at the time. The C6R’s were my faves. That engine is probably one of the best sounding race car engines ever. When it goes by it just makes the hairs on your neck stand up. I like the new flat plane V8 but I don’t love it like that 7L monster.

Stop expanding the aspect ratio. All you're doing is lowering the video quality. 4:3 should be shown in 4:3.
@MathieuBouvier6 жыл бұрын
yeah, it's still in 4:3 (and with 2000 video quality ;-) ) - it's subjective, I guess they're talking about the blurred sides to "fill the 16:9 screens - I would rather have black bars instead of it, but it's personal preference, I'm glad to have this archive anyway!
@AbirafdiRadityaPutra6 жыл бұрын
it's still a 4:3 :/
@AbirafdiRadityaPutra6 жыл бұрын
if he's talking about the blurry pixels causing it not to be 4:3 then he's technically wrong, the actual content is still 4:3 but if he's talking about the addition of the blurry pixels, causing the quality of the video to be lower due to re-rendering, then yeah I agree

I never realized how unorganized and amateur like race control ran these races were back then. I watched the 1st Petit LeMans a guy parked his car on the backstretch at Road Atlanta, ran and got a battery charger, ran back to the car and tried to charge his battery all under green.
