Of course Martin Jacques is absolutely right. He sees the big picture and consistently follows the motto: "if you fly higher, you see further". We in the West are no longer accustomed to this. And, yes, in the Chinese, Confucian tradition, unity is the central element.

Yep - the business of China is BUSINESS, REDEVELOPMENT, and Hi-TECH RESEARCH, and the business of the USA is WARS, with DEATH & DESTRUCTION when SANCTIONS lose its effectiveness. Also wars no longer works anymore, since the ones being attacked by the USA and their vassals, are now armed to the teeth, and now have the ability to FIGHT BACK against them now. After the USA loses its war in Ukraine in the near future, they will declare war on the BRICKS group of nations, because of its jealousy of other rising powers that are replacing it as well.

China is for peace. China is helping the global south with BRI... a win-win solution. China will profit from it, only reasonable profit, not huge. If all countries are doing better, it will be less conflict, less wars, and less refugees. Build a bigger pie, a happier world. Chinese culture does not teach dominance, but respects to each other. (build a door that you can pass and others can pass too; let others feel as good as you feel good)

Tell me one good peaceful purpose of building and weaponized the man-made island in South China Sea. Is it used to entertain their honeymooners? BRI!! China loan country the money, built the project with Chinese companies, which in turn got all their money they loaned back. But you owe your soul to the devil. If you can't pay back, China owns the project. What's there not to like. China built a $1.4 billion deep water port in Peru. Financed by China, built by Chinese, owed by Peru. Peru is the poorest country in South America. Other than smll fishing boats, Peru don't even have deep water outgoing ships. But China does have lots of Naval ships ready to port there when Peru can't pay back the loan. China's good will. It's 'Good' for China and it will break Peru's 'Will'. Definitely a win-win for China.

Your assumption are flawed in few facts: US has the largest economy; China has the largest population, and US still tops in advance technological innovations(that's why China has 100,000 spies working overtine in the US) and China tops in copying, stealing, spying and reverse engineering. For your sake, you hope the US remain the world leader. China don't want to lead the world, they want to rule the world. Their weaponized man-made island in the South China Sea is not made for Chinese honeymooners. They also lay claims to the entire S. China Sea as their sovereignty. It's only their beginning.

Chinese culture accepts other culture and religions (Buddhism is from India and is well alive in China, not anymore in India). The central government knew they lived in poor regions, the 6% minorities in China enjoyed more benefits than the ordinary 94% Hans. The minorities were allowed to get into universities with less marks to build up more talents, new housings, encouraged business to invest there.... Now their populations has increased 30% and has been lifted out of poverty. They are allowed to work anywhere in China. Muslim temples are everywhere now in China.
@MetaView7

Many cultures/religions worship exclusive gods. Their god is the one and only god. Chinese worship spirits. And there are many. The Chinese society, throughout history, lived in a multi-faith community. They don't convert other people to their beliefs, and they are not bothered if their friends/neighbours are of a different faith. It is laughable when Blinken and Baerboch accused China of persecuting Muslims; They do not know the Chinese culture.

Wait until the 60% tariff rate hit when Trump take office in Jan 20, 2025. Trump will make the tax cut permanent and lower the corporate tax rate to 15%. Price increase? Got it covered.

The history of independent India or history of Republic of India began when the country became an independent sovereign state within the British Commonwealth on 15 August 1947...i.e. just over 77 years ago when China was still a dirt poor, economically & militarily weak nation and struggling to feed and house their huge population. By all accounts, India, being democratic, free, and all that BS, should have become the China of today but it made very little progress beyond what their former colonial master, the British, have left them and, unless their government start to carry out & implement what's in the best interest of their nation & people.... i.e. invest in infrastructures, public transportation, affordable housings, better education for all, eradication of gross corruptions, etc... India's progress towards modernization and prosperity for all will continue to grind along at a snail's pace.
