Liberal MP Zoe McKenzie has slammed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for “sitting in a vineyard with his union mates” rather than going to Alice Springs as the “situation is out of control”.
Northern Territory Chief Minister Eva Lawler has declared an ‘emergency situation’ in the Alice Springs CBD to combat crime.
A two-week youth curfew will be put in place as part of the response.
“It is clear the situation is out of control, and it is clear that they are desperate,” Ms McKenzie told Sky News Australia.
“The Chief Minister herself basically said I’m open to all ideas.
“I don’t why the Prime Minister is sitting in a vineyard in the Hunter with his union mates and, frankly, not back on his plane and heading to Alice Springs right now.
“This is not a new problem.”
