I really needed this. I've been so exhausted from so many micro and MACRO-aggressions in my life. This is so validating. I'm going to get this book tonight.

I've just started reading Caste. Isabel Wilkerson is a fine writer, she has an artistic way with words. I know I'm going to enjoy this and learn a lot. I've read the works of B.R. Ambedkar and seen references to him already.

I've listened to an interview Sunday afternoon on Blogtalk Radio. Hosted by Imam Faheem Shuaibe of Masjid Warithudeen in Oakland, California. We've been studying and following her books and progress for the last couple months. Most exciting and accurate. Thank you, Best Wishes and success.

Listening to her explanation about Caste made me think of Christian Cooper and Amy Cooper: the bird watcher who told a White woman to put a leash on her dog and she called the police on him. This was a caste issue. This Black man had no right to tell her, a white woman, what she could or could not do. It wasn't hate or fear. He just didn't know his "place". I still think race is inextricably linked to caste...especially in this country.

In the mid seventies I was in college and took a class on Ancient India . We studied the caste system and I made the connection that American racism and was actually a caste system. When I read Isabel Wilkerson’s book Caste , I wanted to kiss her for writing it! She is brilliant! Her research is so in depth, and the stories are painful and illustrative . This is a must read! I sent the book to my daughter and she loved it also. If we don’t teach history, we are walking blind. In an era where history is glossed over and books are being banned ,it is a gift to have women like Wilkerson who is more a Sociologist maybe than a Journalist. She digs deep into the psyche and holds a mirror up to us all.

I first heard about Isabel Wilkerson on 'Democracy Now', I also listened to 'Politics and Prose'. I was astounded that Winston Churchill PrimeMinister of the UK, wasn't mentioned regarding eugenics. Churchill was one of the leading politicians who greatly admired the works being produced in America regarding eugenics. It's as if he is 'off-limits' with the subject. I would listen to more of Isabel's work although I am still listening to Harriet Washington's 'Medical Apartheid' - which is horrendous. I will be 'getting back' to 'Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents'. I TRULY HOPE this book is translated and read by MANY PEOPLE world-wide, I also hope it will go to audiobook x 1:00;31 Hurrah! THERE IS an audiobook. You are SO knowledgeble and fluent Isabel Wilkinson x

Yes, it is hate when people dislike, mistreat and, or judge you based on your looks before they know you, not caste. It is a hate system. Let's just call it what it is! However I appreciate and respect what the author is saying and look forward to reading the book.

They brought it with them, some of the names they used to lock their caste system in place were the type of work their serfs did : black smith, crab ,fisher, carter, woods , farmer, saddler, schumaker, plowman, gardener, tanner, etc. They also locked them in to the name of the estate they lived on adding the word man to the land owners name (inferring who technically owned them} during serfdom.

@@plazmael2677 No!!! it existed much before that! It was created by 'brahmin' people of Eurasia. The British actually curbed the many ill influences of brahminical caste system. Example: abolishing Sati system ( the ritual of burning a widow alive on her husband's funeral pyre, to maintain caste purity ) in 1829, by Lord William Bentinck, who criminalized it, citing it as 'revolting to human morality')

@@Masterofmultiverse I have read "Caste" I was first introduced to this history in 1990 from a book called "Dalit" The Black Untouchables of India by V.T.Rajshekar and of Dr. Babasaheb.R. Ambedkar. Ms. Kamala Devi Harris selection was no accident. View; "Did British Create The Indian Caste System. Rajiv Malhotra on Breaking India at Warwick" and "Indians and Black Americans Unite Against White Supremacy in USA and Colonial Rule in India" on "Rajiv Malhotra Official" channel. also "Ebony and Ivy: Race, Slavery, and the Troubled History of America's Universities by Craig Steven Wilder, reading Ms. Wilkerson book I understood why I sense a conflict of interest glossed over this masterful literary art.
