I personally think Serpico is not fully someone who “sees them as his guardian angles” but instead just as easily a snake as Griffith was with the lords of Midland. Serpico knows he’s been given a chance to have a good life, so he keeps quiet to ensure a steady and decent life. But Guts shows him that he can be more than a slave. I think he truly loves Farnese, as a brother would a sister, but your points on his inability to let her go on her own is accurate.

Berserk is a very personal story and with a lot of deep characters that go through a lot, I really don't understand questioning someone liking a character like Serpico when there are plenty of other morally questionable people with weird opinions about Berserk.

Very educational, but I still don't like him. The most interesting thing about serpico was the incestual romance. Once roderick is introduced, serpico vanishes from the story. Even isidro, the worst character, has a love interest.

I don't think a love story necessarily makes a character interesting. I find serpico interesting because the dynamic in which his love is displayed

Serpico has zero romantic inclinations towards his half-sister dude. She approaches him sans clothing when she didn't want to marry that nobleman and he blatantly refuses. He loves her, sure, and their relationship is unhealthy, sure, but their relationship is more of a servant/master than anything else.
