Well, as a long time IF fan, I don't see Crawl Through Knives and Take This Life as their biggest hits (nor commercially, nor musically). Whoracle-Colony-Clayman album trio were actually trend setters at their time, incredible amount of bands copied that Gothenbug metal style. If you are listening to their new, simplified style, and you didn't know them before, you cannot fathom their importance and their effects on the genre. Along with other notable bands (ATG, DT, the list goes on) they pretty much invited half of the early metalcore riffs.
@TheBloobster5 жыл бұрын
They honestly have a very similar trajectory to that of Metallica. Early raw album (lunar strain, kill em all), but went on a 3-album stretch that were just masterpieces (whoracle/colony/clayman, ride the lightning/master/justice)... then suddenly got a lot catchier for one album (reroute, Black album)... then went on a steady decline for the next decade outside of one more good album (come clarity, death magnetic). Finally, most recent music, they both came out with one song that was just nasty (I the Mask, Spit out the Bone).

Heard this track the other day.. jaw dropped to the floor suitably impressed. Had the same thoughts about the video as Vileself (an inner demon either trying to come out, or trying to be supressed). The lyrics have an interesting feel to them. Whilst coming across slightly aggressive and clearly negative they are delivered in a powerful and uplifting/uptempo manner, which kinda makes you wonder "where exactly is this song going". There's a feeling of inner rage being supressed and then coming out during the track, and for that the music video conveys it absolutely perfectly. If I had to guess the song meaning, I'd say it's centered around a failed relationship which is at the point where you go "you know what, I don't care what you say or do... I'm above whatever crap you're trying to pull". I've been into In Flames for a while though (Sounds of a Playground Fading comes to mind immediately as a decent album). This track has a similar feel to "Ropes" and "Deliver Us".

As an In Flames fan over the better portion of twenty years, people constantly compare "old vs. new", their style is adaptive making every album truly unique. This album comes out march 1st as well as the new demon hunter which is coming out with 2 new albums on that date called war and peace. March 8th new children of bodom and the raven age which is a very underrated band. So if can request a song please check out the raven age betrayal of the mind.
