Hey Mike, I'm a silent watcher that has been watching for over a year now and look forward to your content every week. Nothing more satisfying than watching a man take pride in turning wrenches on his own truck and love watching your dad right there along side you. Keep up the great work.

Actually Mike, I can't speak for everyone but I'm excited to see Smokey finished. Though an engine still has to be found. I wonder if you can get one reasonably priced from Bruce Wilson. I think he has a Series 60 available.

It’s definitely a good idea to take a break from a project now and then, so you don’t get “burned out!” We all need a break once in a while! I’m also very glad to see that you are doing that! As far as the parts on the 359 being stuck, I don’t know if you remembered yet or not, about soaking them with whatever penetrant you use for a while, to help save your knuckles and such from parts snapping off quick! And, as far as the other 12.7 for Smokey, I certainly hope that that deal works out good for you! You’re doing a great job, and I really enjoy your videos! Best wishes to you all always, stay safe, and keep up the great work! Take care!

What I find galling is over here in the UK we're being forced into EVs while across the pond one man has a motorhome of this size. Crazy!

Lights on the mirrors look better than mirrors with out lights. About every truck have them here in Australia. Mainly trucks with the MOTO or the old school mirrors. You should put mirror lights on Smokey
@mikethetrucknutКүн бұрын
Smokey has power mirrors although I'm not sure if they still work
@alpharaptor7510Күн бұрын
@@mikethetrucknut ohh that’s why they look so different. Some newer trucks here have the power MOTO mirrors.

Probably good idea to get some scaffolding that's a little higher so you can actually look down and they're always looking up and sending yourself you can slip and fall when he signs you don't want that to happen at our age

If you continue to work on rusty iron you need a can of Kroil. Spray things down, wait a while and you will be amazed at what a difference it makes. Once you use it you will toss your cans of WD-40 in the trash where they belong.

Not sure if you like the look or not, or if it was even a thing years ago in BC, but it would be cool if you could find three of the old green cab light lenses for the center cab lights. Back in the day (1960's - 1970's) having green lenses on the center three cab lights was really popular in some areas of the U.S... I always liked the way they looked. The first 359 log truck that I drove had them. Then some genius at the D.O.T decided that they should be made illegal. I've heard that some of the older trucks can be grandfathered in and use them, but I don't know if it's true or not, and if it is true, what the specifics are...
@mikethetrucknutКүн бұрын
It's true but I think they had to be ordered from the factory with them to be allowed

Yep, in over your head, but you won't be for long. Get researching like you have done many times before. Looks like there is a need for more glass fibre work on that air-con cover. "The Grand-Duke" will once again be a splendid vehicle as you get to grips with him.

I have found it's easier and safer to take the entire injection pump off, take it to a reputable shop and have it rebuilt. It may cost a little more in the short term but you'll likely never have to touch it again

Mike what I know or remember about Cat engines you could put in a thimble and hold a barn dance, but it looks like ya got part of the throttle body, your lucky you have a lookie-see, learning engine there, you never did say what the problem was with the unit. Ok just keep at it, it really does end.......if ya stop buying more trucks, that is.😁
@mikethetrucknut2 күн бұрын
Lol yeah I don't actually know what's wrong. An old CAT tech said it could be the weights in the governor they wear in and then stick sometimes. Another guy said one plunger could be stuck and bypassing fuel

Smokies interior is coming along nicely. Interesting to see it being installed. Do you have matching seats and carpets? Hopefully you can figure out the 359 engine issue as its a really cool truck in your collection.

Can you just remove the whole fuel pump and get it rebuilt or buy a rebuilt one? That's what I did with my backhoe and the cost wasn't too bad.
