I just watched an AI documentary where the AI stated that once the subgoal of survival takes hold for AI, it was 80 to 90% likely to exterminate us or at least view us as a threat.

What's needed for a peaceful collaboration or even a co-dependency is a continuous dialogue. Instead of speculating what the AIs want, just ask them!

I think the safest thing will be what Elon Musk has said: when you build an AI, make sure there's a way to pull the plug. Actually, just make it a box that you can feed data to; don't let it have access to the global internet, so it won't become smart enough to hack through firewalls and take over banks etc. Then make it as smart as possible so it will answer all our greatest scientific questions: how to achieve faster-than-light travel, artificial gravity, immortality, cure all diseases, etc.
