Yeah to this day is scary to think about people that western governments train to expertly carry out operations on their behalf, and if it goes bad they get completely abandoned, then years later there is the chance they come back with all the skills their government trained them in with a sinister motivation of revenge. My guess is there are many of them out there.

"In the line of fire" was the first movie where Eastwood turned his tough guy image completely on its head. He showed more depth, was vulnerable, even cried. It was the prelude to his most emotional part, the love story "Bridges of Madison County". He directed and played the lead opposite a radiant Meryl Streep. Together they pulled off one of the most unexpected, romantic and touching movies of the 90ies. It was then advertised as "Clint Eastwood's gift to women". That may sound cheesy, but it's true. Bring your sister and two boxes of tissues. You two will love it.

"I wonder what Clint Eastwood looked like young?" So do we all. The moment he was born he snatched a match from the pocket of the doctor about to smack his bottom, sparked it on the stubble of his newborn chin and asked that doctor if he felt lucky while puffing his first cigar.

Gene Siskel once said that a movie is only as good as its villain. Consequently, this movie is fantastic partly because it has a fantastic villain brilliantly played by John Malkovich.
@jp38132 жыл бұрын
Though I'm sure Gene has liked many movies that don't have villains.
@StickFigureStudios2 жыл бұрын
@@jp3813 True, but not every movie has (or needs) a villain. If it's the kind of story that requires a villain, he better be a good one because if he's weak, the movie will be too.
@jp38132 жыл бұрын
@@StickFigureStudios Honestly, most of the Indiana Jones movies have pretty weak villains except for Mola Ram, but they're still entertaining apart from the 4th one.

29:03 Mark! That taxi cab driver! That seriousness he has had me thinking that he has been waiting for a chance to drive like he's in a police car! Maybe he's had prior experience, too, since he's doing very well! 😊 By the way, the duck hunters don't get any empathy from me. Poor ducks, instead. But the roomies with dog do. Poor them, poor dog. 😢 That hotel is the setting for "It's A Living!" A sitcom about the main restaurant there. It is also the whole of the "City of Atlantis" in "The Fantastic Journey"! It is a 25th-century building in the "City of New Chicago" setting of the first season of "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century"! 😎

You should watch "Dirty Harry". It's a very good suspense thriller and it stars a younger Clint Eastwood, who you said you want to see. That movie came out in 1971 so Clint Eastwood was only around 40 y.o.

Dirty Harry, with an equally superb psycho played by Andrew Robinson. Maybe even worse psycho as the actor himself had threats made on his life for playing a bad guy psycho so well.

At 18:42 “I feel like he’s more obsessed with Frank than he is the President at this point.” Exactly. It was always about Frank, and never about the President. One thing I love about this film is that we never find out, and don’t even get a hint, if the President is a Democrat or a Republican, because the film is presented from the Secret Service agents’ perspective, and it never matters to them. The villain “Booth” couldn’t care less who the President is either.

This was one of the big, anticipated movies of the summer of 1993, when summer movie season had more of an impact. The trailer was attached to movies for a couple of months. It made over 100 million in theaters, which was a definite hit movie for an R-rated thriller. It was perceived as one of the smarter, more adult thrillers. Clint Eastwood was hot again after "Unforgiven" the year before, as well as Rene Russo after "Lethal Weapon 3," and John Malkovich would become more in demand because of this as well. I don't know how several people are regarding it as "underrated" just because it might not be in memes or have five sequels or something. Maybe it has something to do with so many movies and TV series covering the political thriller realm in the last couple of decades. When this movie came out, the Secret Service methods and tactics still had some mystique.

Once Clint 'left' the western genre he really went everywhere with his productions. Some better than others but all solid enough entertainment. When he returned to his 'roots', there was an overwhelming satisfaction with his effort which won the Oscar. Since then he's continued to be both effective AND efficient.

Also, Cassie- Eastwood was _25_ in his first acting role on _Allen In Movieland_ ! In ‘65, by the time he was 29, he was in _Rawhide_ . There’s probably nothing earlier of him on film than that. About as young as you can get.

Clint Eastwood has been acting since the 1950s. He had a small part (2-scenes) in Revenge of the Creature (From the Black Lagoon) and an even smaller role in Tarantula. In fact, you don't even see his face in that movie because he is playing a fighter pilot. By '58, he was on the TV show Rawhide and by the mid-'60s, Clint finally found stardom on the Big Screen with A Fistful of Dollars. He was already 34-years old by that time.
