Garland Greene simply "found God and was healed" if you will, or had some sort of epiphany, when he and the little girl sang "He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands". Greene is an introspective, intelligent, self-aware sociopath, and no medical or psychiatric professional could figure him out and treat him because their approach lacked the simplicity of a children's hymn to something outside Greene's sociopathic self. The scene with him and the girl even starts out with them sitting opposite each other like a psychologist and their patient would, she asks whether he's sick and takes any medication, but then she asks him to sing with her, and his expression while singing speaks volumes. That's at least what I make of his arc.

Regarding your question of whether or not Poe would've been convicted: Highly doubtful because of where they are. Alabama has a 'Stand Your Ground' statute, so Poe would have no 'duty to retreat' in the event that he & his wife (who is pregnant, no less) are accosted by drunk bar patrons. Now, in a few US states, their laws regarding self-defense are collectively known as 'duty to retreat'. In those states, a defendant claiming self-defense would have to first prove that retreating from the conflict was not possible, and there was no other option but self-defense. So if Poe was in, say, Maryland? He'd have to convince a jury that retreat/de-escalation was impossible... (Personally, I can't imagine convicting a man defending himself & his pregnant wife from three aggressive assailants who followed him out to the parking lot. But legally speaking...)
@richardw646 ай бұрын
100% agree with that last sentence.
@LordVolkov6 ай бұрын
The lack of a knife as evidence (Poe's word vs the 2 survivors because Trisha went inside for help) would make 'no retreat' a less viable defense in court, unfortunately. It's not always what is right, but what can be proved to a jury.

The original script for this movie had the plane crashing into the White House & Poe saving the President from Cyrus. But then the producers became aware of a building in Vegas that was scheduled for demolition, & changed the script to use it instead, so they could save money on sets & FX. Imagine how over the top this would have been if they’d gone with the original script. Speaking of which, there are two (!!!) action movies whose premise is “Die Hard in the White House”: “Olympus Has Fallen” & “White House Down.” Neither is from the 90s, but they’re both lots of fun. Both came out in 2013!

By far the most ridiculous part of this movie is that Cameron is in prison at all. Are you seriously trying to tell me that, in the Southern US, a decorated veteran defends a four-on-one attack against himself and a pregnant woman where the attackers are armed, and isn't instantly acquitted? Hell, lots of juries would have awarded him everything those guys owned in damages. And no, the concept of 'being a deadly weapon' (or indeed licened to kill) and therefore held to a different standard is pure fiction. The prosecution might well argue that a veteran should have a higher degree of judgement than a civilian, as to the necessity for deadly force, but defence would just point to the circumstances and say 'what, that doesn't qualify?'. Cameron's lawyer would have had to TRY to throw the case to get a result like this.
@martinrayner64666 ай бұрын
When training for state level martial arts competition(s), (many years of continuous training) we were informed that if we used our skills on the general public, a court would consider it the same as using a deadly weapon. The law portrayed in "Con Air" regarding Cameron Poe's sentence is debatable on a few points: * **Self-Defense:** The movie implies Poe's actions were purely self-defense after a fight escalated. While the details are fuzzy, a strong self-defense case could lead to a lighter sentence or even no charges. * **Military Background:** The judge implies Poe should have shown more restraint due to his military training. Legally, this doesn't hold much weight. The law applies equally regardless of profession, though some argue veterans face harsher penalties in reality [ * **Plea Bargain:** Poe pleads guilty to manslaughter, likely to get a shorter sentence. Plea bargains are common, but the movie doesn't explore if a better deal might have been possible. Overall, "Con Air" simplifies the legal system for dramatic effect. The portrayal of Poe's sentence is questionable, but the true verdict would depend on the specifics of the fight and his legal representation.

2:13 -- RE: "I know that this film isn't a documentary but is it really a true that a Military guy would be treated differently?"; A: Maybe a bit of Yes and No here. Shortest and best answer is Michael Bay isn't well known for his intense commitment to realism. And Yes, it is possible that the assigned State officials who are prosecuting here would seek to dispute Poe's claim of self-defense by indicating that his training has made him a deadly weapon even if he's fighting bare handed. The other key point is that Poe gets charged with a Felony, ie. Murder, and that makes it a Federal thing, and the Feds were who employed him when he was in the armed forces. He could easily be held to a different standard than most civilians even if he's been honorably discharged. There is also another detail about the procedures involving murder trials and juries: many jurisdictions hold a Grand Jury hearing first, and to my mind that's much more like what we're presented with in this movie. Grand Juries happen first, and depending on what the Grand Jury says there will either be an indictment and a Trial (with a regular Jury and deliberations), *or* the charges will be dismissed. It seems unlikely to most people that Poe would even be indicted by a Grand Jury given what we see at the beginning, and that's why the Audience cares about him because even if he's guilty we don't resent his actions.

It's just standard Malkovich-ian over pronunciation 😉

On a trip to the US last year we stopped at "Lerner Airfield" (Wendover Airfield, UT) where the empty swimming pool and Con Air plane are still there. You can even walk right on the plane and have a look around!

The over the top action is what i expect from a 90's action flick and this delivers in Spades !! Nic Cage in one of his best Nic Cagey roles ridiculous but awesome Malhkovich , Cusack and Colm Meaney all deliver as usual It was great to fly JEN AIR today with a great flick Keep them coming Jen. Night 😊

OMG! It's exciting just watching Jen react to all the action and explosions. Makes me think a poll of patrons asking for the movie with the most explosions could be fun. A movie I liked for nonstop action once it got rolling (like 5 minutes in) is World War Z, but probably not enough explosions for Jen. Another interesting poll might be the question asked in the first episode of the sitcom Cheers: in what movie did the characters sweat the most? No nasty films! ;-) BTW, I think Cyrus was done in by a pile driver, one of my favorite pieces of construction equipment ever since Marvel described a punch hitting with the force of a pile driver. In quiet rural areas you can hear those working from a couple miles away.

Nicholas Cage went from filming directly to filming “Face/Off”

Cage has done a lot of great stuff but this film is just sooo much fun. A gathering of great actors throughout too!

For some more Colm Meaney, Jen needs to look at "The Commitments", "The Snapper" and "The Van". He's also a Pilot (with an English accent) in "Die Hard 2"...

2:20 I love how Jen lights up when she sees Colm Meaney is in this...a light that will be hastily extinguished. 3:03 Nah, I have little doubt that you could devise and execute The Perfect Crime.👍 3:47 John Cusack is (or at least he used to be) awesome. I'd also highly recommend Say Anything, Grosse Pointe Blank, 1408, and Better Off Dead. 5:16 "And then we got Haircut here". 🤣🤣🤣 Nearly spit rye-and-ginger all over my desk on that one. 12:40 Bonus points for use of the term "Cahooting", which I also employ from time to time (and specifically, earlier in this video).👍 20:52 That's Angela Featherstone, a.k.a. Chloe the Copy-Girl, who Ross had sex with when he and Rachel were Totally On A BREAK! 29:00 Cool guys don't look at explosions. They blow things up and then walk away. Who's got time to watch an explosion? There's cool guy errands that they have to walk to.

In all fairness, only idiots look at explosions. Dust and debris and shrapnel flying towards you.

To keep in the Nick Cage vein, i recommend The Rock. It has some good one-liners that feel very similar to this. Also if you like disaster movies: Volcano.

when I was growing up, my oldest brother went with his other highschool friends to see this movie in the theater, afterwards they came back and my brother said "Con Air was the greatest movie ever made".

I was working in a movie theater when this came out. During the week, we didn't have many people in to watch it, so we would all hang out in the door to the auditorium and watch this movie repeatedly. Really is one of my all time favorites.

We don't know the specifics about the Buscemi's character's murders but I think he spared her life because she didn't run away. She talked to him, drank tea with him, sang with him. They had a friendly encounter.

Garland seems very introspective (if a bit cold) about himself and his actions. He may be trying to reform. This is kinda the only way I can take his 'happy ending' as not horrifying 😅
@szeddezs6 ай бұрын

17:20 you generally can't trust those on the other side of the law and no matter what you always 'trust but verify' if you trust at all but occasionally you'll find some you can trust more than anyone on the planet because they know exactly how important loyalty and trust are and sometimes you're also in a Mutually Assured Destruction type situation where if you snitch then those you snitched on with do the same to you but with things no one knows about. Best way to gain trust and leverage is to tell people secrets that seem vital but also can't majorly blowback on you and eventually those people will tell you things that could blow back on them and then you have a card you'll hopefully never have to pull especially because if they think about betraying you they'll also remember that time they gave you dirt on themselves which will act as a deterrent
