I had a best friend in grade school that I hung out with. We were both kind of outcast and neither one of us could care less. We were the ones that ditched school once in awhile and just go walk about. Down by the plate river mostly. We would make up stories like this one. Scare the hell out of ourselves. The only time we were really afraid was when a group of teenager bullies showed up. 2 girls and 2 boys. Each pair trying to impress each other how badass they were. They stood over us laughing and threatening. My friend, a girl, kind of homely, a head shorter than me and a little chubby. She stood up to them like it was nothing, told them " If it makes you feel tuff and strong beating on a couple little kids than get on with it, we ain't got all day!" I couldn't believe it. Than the kids chuckled with boredom and walked off. I thought I was going to faint. I couldn't be how brave she was. When we were standing by ourselves again, she slumped to the ground ,sweating ,panting. I looked at her confused. Oh good , you didn't think I was afraid either. For some reason that memory came back to me. Thanks for the story and for listening to mine. Your friend Miss Jessi

My cousin and I almost got lost in the woods after barely riding in them on a trail on our bikes when we were around 10 years old. I followed her cus she was older and “familiar” with the area. She got us so lost and thankfully I have a great sense of direction because finally after about 6 hours of trying to back track I finally found the main trail from the NACO West camp ground that was next to the woods. I felt like something was watching me the entire time and most of the time we had goose bumps when it was around 85F outside due to the atmosphere hanging in the air. Needless to say that was an affirming life lesson to not just follow other people without paying strict attention to detail to what I’m doing at any point in life. Glad that nothing actually came out and got us but from what I’ve seen we got lucky because it was just starting to get dusk when we got back and the woods where silent for the most part besides the noise we made ourselves by riding our bikes & walking through areas not rideable.

We need more Washington creepypastas. The area around here in Western Washington is wet, foggy, and has some of the thickest and oldest forests in North America and one of the few temperate rain forests on earth. Add to that all the weird animals (seriously google "geoduck" for an idea) not to mention the fact we had one of the highest rates of serial killings per capita in the world for awhile and you'll see why this area is perfect horror story setting material. Gray's Harbor in particular is the perfect setting for any kind of "dark and stormy" horror story thanks to the ceaseless clouds, rain, wind, and being so close to both thick forests and the sea.

Oh wow, this brought back so many memories. Running for your life is just terrifying!!! When I was about 8, my sisters and I went on a day trip with my parents to my dad’s friend’s farm (we lived on a farm too), in a small town. We went on a walk exploring the area. The local kids was so mean and send their dogs after us. I remember running like I have never ran before. I could see my sisters ahead of me, yelling for me to run and not stop! I was the youngest and the last one. I fell several times and scraped my knees and hands. I could hear the dogs parking like mad right behind us! When we reached a safe place, we looked and the dogs were long gone. I never run like that before or after that day! This is why I am still scared of dogs lol.

You know the funny thing is.... I grew up in the county of grays harbor in washington state. In a town that had been previously a logging city that believed in replanting new trees for the ones they cut down. Until a bunch of owl lovers started spreading misinformation about a local owl saying the owl would only live in old trees. Of course years later after the damage was done the scientists had done research to find, no, the owl doesn't care if it's old trees or new trees, as long as the nesting area was safe enough. The owls are quite pretty though, but it killed alot of the cities that relied on logging and logging based factories. All happened before I was born 20-30 years ago give or take a few years. We were told to stay out of the woods, incase of dangerous logging equipment that could have been left behind on accident.

Every Halloween for a while he would do a costume contest with the kids that trick or treated and he would have the winner do a tour of his home and walk them through the tunnel he had made that connected to another neighboring house he purchased. He turned the other house into his personal library and would let the winner choose a book from it. He was hard to get talking but I definitely appreciated any convos we had.

As a chemist and enthusiast of science, I love and appreciate these stories. I have since I was a child and I share them with my son. I take issue with none of them until the attempt to cross a border. That border is the attempt to disprove science in favor of fairy tales. To a normal adult this is a fun and fanciful hypothetical walk through "what could be spooky." Take a look at the comments section though. There are a disturbing amount of cases of adults taking these ghost stories as some sort of conspiratorial scientific fact.
