This experience was one that brought me closer to my mom.
We've never really sat down and discussed these kinds of things before and it makes us much closer. Definitely a super memorable chat I'll remember forever.

as someone who comes from an abusive, toxic and broken Asian family, this was super healing, funny and heartwarming to watch! just a mother and daughter closely bonding, something that I never had, so whilst surreal, it really does feel like 2 close friends just having one of their down to earth talks together. I'm just so happy watching your healthy, loving and supportive relationship, it's seriously healing for me! and that's so nice your parents even let you move out, not a lot of old generation traditional Asian parents want that for their kids. Very restrictive and possessive. But your mother is awesome, not like the rest at all! I hope this new apartment will treat you well and you get to create many food adventures and sweet memories in it, Tina!

Tung Dang Dude shut the hell up. “Neglect everything they did for you” people like you are always the ones to blame kids for cutting contact with their parents. Never once thinking, what did the parent do to make the kid this hostile towards them? Your own experiences doesn’t change how someone else should feel asshole.

I may not know her but her consideration in the way she chose to answer questions is enough for me to consider her an amazing woman and mother. To have this level of introspection and forward thinking - her consideration of her daughters life and her clear care is something to be amazed at. Not all parents are as communicative, caring and considerate as she appears to be. And to me, that makes her amazing. Speaking of judgements based off of interactions .... I am also an only child as a korean family and sent to US all by myself. Even though I am a boy, I respect dooby's parent's decision on sending a girl by herself. I would have been so worried to make that decision. As I studied abroad in US, I was also surprised about the fact that there were many girls studying abroad, apart from their families. They sort of had tendency of self-initiative characteristics, so I respect them so much. I cannot judge how dooby had been during her life in US, but I can kind of imagine that it must have been difficult for her and she made it through well to become a person in front of us. I will be looking forward to your next journey with your new place! 화이팅!

Strange. Girls are more independent and safe. Boys are risk-taking and have problems (gambling, alcohol, drugs, stupid pranks,…). Girls are safer and need to be watched less. Boys get into trouble.

this is one of my favorite videos of yours! I could really relate to the part where you said you begged your parents to send to to school in the US. I’m Chinese and I also went to a US boarding school on my own volition and end up finishing college there. I understand how much peer pressure you’re under to pursue a conventional elitist career, which makes it all the more admirable that you stuck to striking out on your own and did such a spectacular job at it. I graduated in 2017 and it’s not until recently that I’ve somewhat gotten an inkling of where I really want to go career wise. You got to where you are so quickly because of your refusal to half-ass anything, a quality I wish I have. You’ll do so great, Dooby. I applaud for everything that you are!! Love from shanghai

This was such a heart warming vibe to it. I moved back in with my parents recently and my mom has been my best friend. Sometimes I get frustrated with my parents and their very old ways and beliefs, but this video reminded me how nice it feels so have a connection with your mom and I could do things like these ❤️

I love this vulnerable side to you Dooby! You are incredibly mature, down to earth, and wise beyond your years. You are genuinely and authentically YOU, and just by being you, you are an inspiration and a beacon of light to many. I feel for what you said about having no siblings and the burden of having no one when the time comes, but trust me, the universe has its own way of giving you back what you have given others (just by being yourself and being awesome) and in some way, shape, or form, you will be taken care of and everything will be OK (and you don’t even need to know HOW it’s going to be done)! You are loved by many and all is well. Sending you big hugs! 💕

Just discovered ya since my friends said your videos remind them of me. Lo and behold, I discover you went to Cornell (fellow ‘15 grad over here!), I also begged my parents to send me to boarding school (this always surprises people), and my mom also holds a professional job (전문직). Haha. My parents are super strict as well although I’m surprised they let you move out… they didn’t let my sister move out until she was 34 y/o. Also, my goodness your piece on your relationship with 할머니 brought back memories! My halmonee practically raised me since both my parents worked FT as well. I’m super jealous you got to have an intimate wine night with your mom (she honestly could be your 언니)-I’m halfway across the world. Anyways, love that you’re very down to earth and enjoy making funny faces just as I do 😂. Can’t wait to watch more of your vids and get to know you better! xx

I'm also a food science major, and in addition to that, character wise I feel that we are also similiar, the difference being that I am a male and I graduated 10 years ago 😂. I also did go on further down the traditional food science major career trajectory!
