Transracial does exist. It's the term for children who grew up raised by adoptive parents in another culture than their own. People like Oli hijacked the word and changed the meaning which also doesn't help kids growing up in situations like that confused about their identity. So it's bad for Trans rights and the original meaning of the word. These kids don't choose getting adopted by a whole other culture and getting moved away.
@riannawalker59042 жыл бұрын
Dont think that should be called transracial either because race and culture isnt the same thing. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's ok if you grow up into a culture which isn't usually associated with your race. That would be completely different from just taking the culture of someone else because you like it and it would be valid for that child to feel apart of that culture. In the Caribbean, for example, people of many races grow up in cultures here and they are all valid but they shouldnt identify as each other racially because every race still had their own history and struggles. If that makes any sense lol hope im not just rambling nonsense.

To clarify: transracial is a real term, but it is not at all what Oli claims. A transracial person is someone who was adopted and raised by parents who are a different race than them. It really does seem like Oli started using the word without knowing what it means, because they are not transracial. Just like we shouldn’t disregard the rights of trans people and those who use neopronouns because of Oli’s actions, we shouldn’t disregard the experience of actual transracial people either. To be honest, I am genuinely concerned about Oli’s mental state. This has escalated quite a bit, and someone going to the lengths to get numerous surgeries while speaking seriously about these things can be a serious sign of delusions and the belief that they are actually a Korean. At this point I’d be glad if Oli admitted that they don’t actually believe these things and it’s just for popularity.
@hillomunkkiseni2 жыл бұрын
I feel like it was originally just a gimmick to get attention, but oftentimes it's a slippery slope from doing something ironically to doing it actually unironically. This also somewhat reminds me of the case of Jessica Alvez, who was previously known as "the human Ken-doll" from doing extensive plastic surgery to look more like Ken, but has recently come out as transgender and changed the direction of her surgeries from trying to look like Ken, the archetype for attractive man, to looking more Barbie-like, so idealized femininity. I feel like the whole plastic surgery and trying to look like XYZ obsession Oli has might be symptomatic of just transness and gender confusion, and well I don't blame someone amab genderfluid (and/or somewhat transfem?) but still in closet latching onto K-pop dudes as a goal as they are without a doubt attractive beautiful men, instead of being attractive due to hypermasculinity, so it feels like an easy first step to pursue while still being like "I'm totally a guy haha, a manly man(tm)", and well now as their gender exploration has advanced, it's easy to then next project onto some other K-pop star (as you're already waist deep in that) that allows you to express even more of your feminine side, but like obviously it's getting creepy (again) and should stop. I empathize with their likely real gender struggles, but I'm also really frustrated by how much damage all of this mixing race into it is causing for the wider trans community, so I'd hope he either gets help for his weird fetishization of Koreans and possible delusions of being one, or actually admits it wasn't ever fully serious and stops it and just embraces being non-binary/genderfluid or even some other trans label that feels right for them without any of that bs.

thank you for taking the time to remind people to respect their pronouns. Theyre a vile person, but if we decide that bad behavior makes it okay to misgender people, it sets a really horrible precedent that endangers trans people.
@pigeon_person2 жыл бұрын
I absolutely second this. I always appreciate Inabber and the community for using the correct pronouns for the people discussed. Its important to try to set the standard for basic human respect even to those who do us wrong. As much as I dislike relating myself to Oli/Rosé, I am also affected by misgendering, and seeing these small but positive changes in online communities respecting trans and nonbinary people really gives me hope for a more accepting future.
@clegs83562 жыл бұрын
YES exactly. using correct pronouns isn't some treat we get to give or take away from ppl as we please - it's basic human decency, and it's not up for debate. i think there's this awful all-or-nothing mentality that's perpetuated online when people are encouraged to pick "sides" constantly, without any nuance. i think it really contributes to this situation where ppl think "oh, oli london, they're obviously full of sh!t bc trans racial isn't a thing... therefore *we get to decide they're not REALLY transgender either !!!1!!1!*" which is just... so, so wrong. and so missing the point. damn.
@gwendolynrobinson39002 жыл бұрын
Another thing I always try to respect is how someone looks. No matter how awful of a person they are, it's not okay to dig into someone for how they look, because there are probably a hundred good people that look just like them and a million others that share similar features as them, and you wouldn't say horrible things about a good person's looks so you shouldn't about a horrible person's either, because that insults others that look like them too, and it's just not okay to judge someone by something they for the most part cannot control. Even in Oli's case where they've had countless surgeries in an attempt to look like a different race, there are probably people that share some of his features and I'd never want to call them ugly or insult their appearance like ive seen others do because they're awful and make a genuinely nice person feel terrible for looking similarly Just something I try to keep in mind, that it's not okay to insult anyone with their appearance, even if they're terrible. Their actions speak for themselves more than enough
@nicripolas8162 жыл бұрын
As I said in another comment, I find that his co-opting of the transgender identity is emblematic of another disorder entirely. I don't show respect to what he claims his pronouns are because it's disrespectful to actual Trans people, in my opinion, to humor this weirdo.

You know, it never ceases to amaze me how many marriages to fucking imaginary entities get divorced. I remember this one lady who married a pirate ghost and then got divorced as well, alongside all those waifu posts of people breaking up with their body pillows. I don't get it - isn't the point of an imaginary bf/gf is that the relationship never goes sour????? Like, I'm just genuinely curious as to what the thought process is behind the break ups. I would have thought they'd invent a reason why the break up didn't need to happen - them being the authors of the story and all.
@archer44242 жыл бұрын
The only thing I can think of is that they’ve moved on from their interest in that character and use the “breakup/divorce” as a way to kind of reconcile that? Like if you have a favourite character in a TV show and then all of a sudden they introduce a new character you like a lot more, most people will just… move on and like that character, but if for whatever reason you’re genuinely emotionally attached to that character, you might feel bad for moving on and want to kinda give yourself some closure about it. That’s what I would assume anyways, but who really knows with this kind of stuff
@lucyjane38032 жыл бұрын
I would assume these people do this stuff because they don't have the emotional maturity/attention span for a relationship with another person, hence I can imagine them getting bored pretty quickly and wanting to move onto the next big obsession. Also if they're posting about it online there is probably some type of attention seeking element in play too.

The thing about wanting to be Korean is like. If you really, really want that, you COULD learn Korean, move to Korea and if you live there long enough, you can become naturalized as a citizen and literally, legally be Korean. If you really have a passion for a culture, you can do that. But Oli isn't doing that. The only thing that I find interesting is that Ollie identifies as “Korean,” Korean isn’t technically a race, it is a nationality. While I do not in anyway support Ollie doing this, I find it strange and a bit fascinating from a psychological standpoint. Korean is a nationality, which theoretically means Ollie COULD attempt to become a Korean citizen and actually BE Korean. I looked this up specifically for this comment. It is tough, but not impossible. Ollie could try to become a citizen...but no, Ollie never does this. Instead Ollie IDENTIFIES as a nationality and attempts to change race. What is it that makes Ollie do this? Perhaps there is a reason Ollie could never achieve citizenship...personally I don’t think it is the Korean government, I think it is the mercenary K-Pop production companies. But that’s just MY theory.

That lady knew her shit. I understand that their most likely a troll but this is too far, absolutely disgusting how they’ve took our culture and disrespected it to all hell. The fact they feel they can understand the Asian struggle and take that from real Asian people, just makes me so incredibly sad more than anything.

A few days ago I was actually thinking 'I haven't heard anything about Oli London lately, I wonder what they've been up to lately.' Now I regret wondering.

Oily is also stalking a couple of male asian youtubers. i say asian because 1 I know is Japanese and the other hasn't said what nationality he is. I heard there are actually a handful of them he stalks these days. The japanese man I follow frequently shows the gross dm's he gets from Oily. it's disturbing he affords it because his parents are very well off. HE doesn't afford it, his parents support his very sick lifestyle. he stated that a long time back, somewhere along the timeline just before his first "korean" "music" video

I do want to put out there that Transracial originally was a term specific to Adoptees (children adopted from birth or from foster families/seperation by government or death from) who were adopted into families that were different races or racial background then the child- like a black child adopted by two white parents. Rachel Dolezal literally stole the word Transracial away from its technical and psychological usages to fake a sort of medical history to the phrase. It's insidious and disguisting- but the word transracial is necessary for adoptees- minority adoptees especially to describe their childhood and the loss of a racial or ethnic community. It's really important to keep up the knowledge of transracial's original context and usage.

I hate that people have co-opted the term "transracial", which was already coined to refer to children adopted into families of a different race than them (if my memory serves - I'd have to look it up to be fully certain.)

I think Oli needs some serious help. It is not healthy and definitely not normal to be so obsessed with someone or a group of someones that you try to become them. I don't think they're joking, you don't spend hundreds of thousands on surgery as a joke.
