can someone tell me why he flicks the wheel during braking/downshifting? is that just him countering the feedback from the wheel? or is it something with that car in particular. great run by the way, thanks for uploading :)
@DavidKFZ8 жыл бұрын
The thing about rally is that when you've gotten the basics mastered and have developed a technique it mostly comes down to feel when driving the car which means he is doing it automatically without thinking, the subconscious takes over and uses muscle memory to make judgments. His hands moving as fast as they are and erratically is typical for fast stages with loose surfaces or portholes. His body will be perceiving tyre slip so his hands subconsciously move to correct it through the learned behaviour. To answer your question: when he brakes, the car will automatically begin to oversteer (fishtail) because the rear tyres have lesser load on them than the fronts and they can pivot more freely in the gravel, he is fighting to correct the car and is keeping it from spinning out. If you watch tarmac rallies you will notice that this doesn't happen as much because the grip type is different and its all about being smooth - the road doesn't pull at the wheels and you are sliding much less meaning no need for corrections

The car itself won't break if he doesn't, but there is so much torque on these gears that if you don't clutch in you'll get a kick in the back. Probably better for traction as well.

Few questions : how does someone get into this sport? Tell me more than "money" and Does it feel weird to drive home after? Do u have the urge to just speed home or what?
@TorAndreBrresen6 жыл бұрын
Get to know someone that has knowledge of how things are done, like an experienced co driver, join a motorclub source some money and buy a good and not too expensive and reliable learner car. I don't think it feels weird, you get used to the speed after a while. If you do and loose your license you can't rally anymore so i think most people try to not to it, the urge goes away with age also.

@connorhayes10135 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that this is actually done because the gears are "straight cut" and this is a "dogbox" transmission. A quick lift of the throttle or quick clutch depression in low gears helps to make gear changes easier. www.superstreetonline.com/how-to/transmission-drivetrain/impp-1109-synchromesh-vs-dog-box www.carthrottle.com/post/the-advantages-and-disadvantages-of-straight-cut-gears/
