This is soooo my Achilles heal. I've been editing and retaking photos for years and they never seem to be par with the professional photos I see with the big company pros. I've even put wanted ads out for professional photographers but just haven't found the right person yet. I'll be chiming in and hopefully will learn something new and helpful. Thanks for bringing this topic up Starla.

While not a substitute for natural light or a proper light box, if you set up next to a large TV at full brightness, eco mode off, and pull up a YT video of a white background it can work for you when you need something in a pinch. Just need to be mindful of other color temps from any other light sources. I look forward to the Friday Bean to see more about this!

Yes! Let's talk about light modifiers AND how these techniques can be applied to product videos too
@ByKristinaNicole8 ай бұрын
Everything I teach in L.I.G.H.T is principles and can be adapted to any lighting scenario! The only time your light set-up will vary is if you are doing videos of your self talking (we call these talking head videos!) Those types of videos require front lighting (vs side) to intentionally create a flat look (ya know to avoid bringing out the texture of our wrinkles and pores!) 😂

Hey great and useful content! One question..of course I have some listings that don't get views no matter what I do...these are old listings. If I erase them, relist them..is it possible for them to get a new chance and revive? I have to mention that I sell paintings that are not that cheap. Thanks 🙏🏼 keep it up
@StarlaMoore8 ай бұрын
There is no benefit to starting over with a new listing. Even old listings that have never sold can be revived. Check out this video for a list of steps I recommend taking to revive a dead listing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4fWpJJsbMSCoZosi=ZaHDluFDHYRt-sAQ

Does Christina recommend fixing BEFORE taking photos or can we "fix" already bad shots (to a point, anyway. I know miracles aren't taught)?
@StarlaMoore8 ай бұрын
I'll go ahead and let Kristina answer this one (watch for her reply) - but I will say that in my own experiences, shooting NEW photos is WAY faster and easier than trying to fix a bad photo. I'd much rather just reshoot the photo in better lighting. Trying to fix a bad photo can take waaaaay more time.
@suzannebeam69358 ай бұрын
Keep an eye out for Kristina's reply but in my experience (I have a background in photography but not product photography) it's always better to get it right in-camera. This is particularly true when working with a camera phone because your images are already compressed into jpg format. An extra minute or two spent making adjustments based on a test shot that doesn't look great will save you hours of trying to fix it. And severe exposure (light) problems in a phone image can only be saved "so much" but will never be as good as getting it right the first time around.
@ByKristinaNicole8 ай бұрын
Hey! I 100% recommend getting results from the camera! It will save you a significant amount of time. Light will be the #1 thing you should master to see better results. That is why I offer it as an inexpensive challenge so that ALL makers can have an opportunity to see results! The "fix in editing" mindset is all about survival mode and I get it. Most of us are running our businesses by ourselves and while we know what we "should" be doing taking the time to learn and implement isn't always the priority! The first thing we will avoid in business are the tasks we find most frustrating and unpleasing! Sadly for a lot of makers that is product photography! I can't tell you how many makers come to me after taking L.I.G.H.T or The Makers Method to share how much they enjoy the photography process now that they have a better understanding! Less frustration, increased sales... win win! 🥰

@@suzannebeam6935 100% Smartphones are a GREAT solution for taking photos for your online shop but the caveat is you HAVE TO HAVE GOOD LIGHT! Poor lighting is a HUGE reason makers think their smartphone photos suck! It isn't their phone... it is their light and like you said.... an image can only be saved "so much."

@@suzannebeam6935 I responded to this, but I am not seeing it. Sorry, if it posts twice. I said you are 100% correct! Smartphones are a great camera option for taking product photos for your online shop but the caveat is you HAVE TO HAVE GOOD LIGHTING! Starla, could you make a video in which you teach people how to correctly evaluate keywords basing on searches, ctr, competition and so on? sometimes I get stuck and cannot decide which keywords are worth using and which should be avoided. It'd really be helpful. Thank you for your useful content, keep up the good work :)
@StarlaMoore8 ай бұрын
I somewhat cover this topic in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4XPpIhrd7OXkLM But ultimately, there's no answer to this question because ALL keywords have potential. There's no guidelines for what keywords work and what keywords won't. Testing is truly the only way to know! Think of data as the compass, but a compass can not predict what the terrain ahead will look like. Your compass ay tell you to go forward but there could be a mountain in the path. OR, the path could b completely clear and perfect for pioneering. Data is the compass, but you have to test that data within your own shop in order to see how the keywords will perform for you. :)

I don't have a single window in my house that's just a single pane. They are divided into small squares. How do I deal with this in product photography?
@ByKristinaNicole8 ай бұрын
I would have to see an image of the window to offer the best advice, but you would be surprised by what diffusion can do! Go back to the video :25 sec in and pause it, look at my setup and all the lines of bright vs dark. The dark are shadows from my window! Yours would look more like a grid. Watch as I add the diffuser and how those shadows melt away! Let me know if you have questions!
