I just recently had dental work done on my front tooth. I had a root canal, a temporary crown put in, and lastly, a permanent crown put on my front tooth and now, I can't play high notes anymore. I can hardly get to high G. I still have a missing front tooth that's been missing for years and I was able to play high notes but when I get that tooth sorted, I won't be able to play trumpet at all, I bet. 😢

My corners are never burning. More like the lip stops responding after a piece with no rests. And then there are 6 more pieces. I've been playing since '94 with a hiatus from 2011-2022. My range and sound are back, but dreading that x-mas concert for the sheer amount of it.

You’re most likely using too much mouthpiece pressure due to a lack of efficient breath support. Make sure your support is coming from your core and not from your neck. Tightening and tension from the neck is one of the most common issues trumpet players have. If you’re still having issues (not feeling the burn in the corners), evaluate if your embouchure is the issue. Hope this helps! 🙂👍🏾

This exercise helps stabilize the embouchure for whatever note you’re targeting. It’s my goto approach after a hiatus from the trumpet or to refine my sound on certain notes that consistently give me a hard time. Stylistic vibrato is great! Unintentional vibrato or instability in the sound is inefficient technique and terrible musicality. The goal is to achieve artist freedom with complete control over the tonal colors I want to produce at any time. I can’t do that if the foundation of my sound and embouchure is unstable.
