The Irish government's spending has increased by almost 50% in the space of 5 years because the population keeps "growing and growing", which has led to a need for increased health and housing spending, Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe says.

As an Irishman living in the UK for over 30 years I see it all the time. Just last week working at a block of flats with the monthly rent £950 per month all given to asylum seekers. This government clearly thinks that mass immigration is something that is simply 'happening' to Ireland, that it is not something over which the country has any control. That ignorant perspective is HUGELY problematic, because it's simply not true. The government is allowing something to happen that is terrible for the people they're supposed to serve, when they could prevent it from happening by curbing the number of visas issued and setting up a Denmark-style system for asylum applicants. Ireland needs a national discussion about the amount of immigration that is appropriate for the country, the type of immigration that the country will permit, and what strategy for integrating immigrants the country should implement. None of the mainstream media are willing to facilitate this debate and politicians are too stupid and drunk on power to acknowledge that it needs to be had. In this respect, as in many others, both media and politicians are failing the Irish people massively.

But the hsee will gladly head out accross third world countries, begging people to come work here and give them lower pay . At least half have bad to poor English and are under qualified in these roles. I know so many young teachers and nurses who can't get full time hours, yet the schools and hospitals are short staffed . But a Billion euros ayear on housing foreign people is executable. I'm using this platform to make a statement. Having studied the current political and social situations in Ireland I am of the opinion that the political parties which are currently in power have pulled off a coup. Their utter disregard of the dissent and the anger which is on a daily basis expressed by the population is one of the hallmarks of faschism. The government is using language to create a paradigm which vilifies any group or individual who doesn't comply with their regulations. A hallmark of totalitarian practice is weaponise language so as label any dissent as an attack on the status quo.
