I've been following this bike for some time now. They have four different models now and this is their least expensive. Some reviews on KZbin are very critical of the bike chain constantly coming off, and some bad customer service. But overall it is very reliable and well made. Being in control of that many components on your bike build, before it even gets to you, is very convenient and they do honor warranties very well from what I've seen. Currently looking at the Ristretto bikes...works of art too!

I chose against mid drive because it does wear out the chain faster--750 watts is equal to a pro biker like lance armstrong--so being able to put that power down daily has an effect and in races they changed chains like every 500 miles--and a motor can put out the max output anytime you get on it.

Also by far the most common serious injuries bicyclists get are broken collarbones & helmets don’t help there. Bicycle helmet laws also fail cost benefit tests. You go to the continent & other than the very odd rarity virtually the only people wearing bicycle helmets are tourists & expats from the English speaking world. Yet with higher cycling rates, hospitalisation rates for cyclists are less & life expectancies are higher in general. @@ianmangham4570 They didn't really *suppress* either, at least not for most of that time, and not at all for E-bikes. E-cars did well early on in cities when you bought petrol at the *pharmacist's* (cars ran on white gas, what we'd know as Colman fuel now). However, gas became easier to get than reliable electricity and lead-acid batteries are terrible for EVs. Hence the gas car (and even the steam car) overtook the electric car. E-bikes have been around since the late 90s. But Lead Batteries are heavy, which hurts bikes even more. They've only *really* become practical with lithium ion, and they're still painfully slow and expensive compared to the gasbike counterparts. my TSDZ2 cost me $360, and makes 768 watts. A Zeda 100 makes 2,250, and you can make even more with a performance package with the whole thing under 300. Not counting the battery I needed to buy (10A@48v, the same as this bikes smaller size, that was an extra $180) The only thing an E-Bike really does let you do unarguably better is break traffic laws, because you're quiet and not drawing attention to yourself.

Its one of those things that sounds great on paper but in the end you won't use it. I think I used 2-3 gears max on my Kalkoff.

Awesome looking e-bike -- even without any pedaling (see below). I have a similar-powered 1000W DIY-retrofit Trek MTB frame, mid-drive. Same controller (or an earlier version, maybe). ***Pedal Your E-Bike! (keep warm when it's cold; extend range; get exercise)*** I highly recommend you re-review to give a sense of what pedaling will do. As a bicycle 'purist' who only tried an e-bike 'cause it looked kinda fun for a gimmick, I wasn't ever going to buy one. But a friend had an ebike shop and really talked-up how they can turn a 40mi commute that's not-doable by bike w/out 3 hours and a shower at the end of the ride >> to totally reasonable by ebike, you could call me a 'convert'. The bike you reviewed is designed to be pedal-assist. That controller/screen you like is near-magical with its ability to integrate pedaling and motor power intuitively so you don't even think about it -- like 'riding a bike'. Depending how you configure the top-level assist, the 5 speed settings correspond to ~ 100W, 250W, 500W, 750W and 1000W+ of assist, whenever you start pedaling. The automatic assist when you operate pedals frees up your hands so you don't even have to think about the throttle control except when reacting to a car trying to cut you off (F cars, they can eat your electric tail-lights!), or when you see a yellow light up ahead and you want to hit full throttle to make it through. Seriously, ride it around for an hour on assist-level 1, 2, and 3 and pedaling and using the assist-level up/down buttons to adjust speed, and the throttle only for speed bursts to get through intersections ahead of opposing traffic and the like. You'll have a WAY different experience of what this thing does for bicycling. A halfway-fit cyclist can pedal 100W of power for 5 minutes with moderate effort. 50W continuous is easy-peasy, just keeping your legs busy and getting some workout (or staying warm, if its cold out). So if you figure 50 Wh per hour contributed by the rider, on a 20-mile trip over one hour, you'll have contributed 50 Wh -- or about one pound of battery energy-density equivalent -- to your ride -- without even getting winded or breaking a sweat. If you dig in for a real workout, you'd easily contribute 100 Wh during the same trip, and get there in 45minutes with plenty of battery left for the return-trip. *** How to Use Gears and Assist Levels (You Should Try Pedaling Your Ebike!!!) *** The motor can probably perform with similar efficiency at any of the chain ring gears you might select. The gears probably only really matter if you decide to pedal (to keep warm or get more range or exercise). The efficiency of the human body is much more sensitive than the motor is, to torque range in order to achieve maximum efficiency (long ride) or maximum power (performance/race/trick-riding). On my 1kW ebike, I usually use all 5 gears AND change the assist-level between 1 and 3 depending how quick I want to get somewhere, how much range I want for my ride, how much I want to maintain constant speed when I'm pedaling up a hill, etc.. If you configure the controller settings for 5=full throttle, then when you pedal, you'll get full-throttle assist (you can also configure for 5=500W, or whatever you want; given that I almost never use assist level 4 and 5, I could probably configure mine to use less than full power at 5, and have more precise control over assist level by using all 5 settings more of the time). I find it intuitive to use motor assist and gear shifting constantly, to keep my pedaling torque constant for maximum human rider efficiency. *** RE: battery charging and depletion *** Most lithium-ion batteries can sit on the shelf for a year near zero charge, and not lose much from their cycle life (number of charge cycles they can see before the full-charge capacity at the end of each charge starts to dip fast). Charging to 80% or less will increase charge cycles in the lab, but the batter/charge system may already call 80% optimized charge "100%" -- IE: select its maximum charge voltage according to the 'knee' on the max charge voltage vs. cycle life performance curve -- the place where one additional 0.1 V of additional charge voltage causes loss of 100 cycles of charge vs. only 10 cycles. My eBike engineer friend says in eBike applications, the vibrations from riding break up the contacts between cells in the pack and start to cause unbalance among cells inside the pack and degraded capacity/output/charge uptake efficiency LONG before you get to the 4000 - 8000 charge cycles it takes to cause capacity losses 'naturally' in a good li-ion cell pack. So go ahead charge to "100%" and ride down to whatever you feel safe with as far as being able to pedal yourself home without looking like a tired, sweaty fatso because your dead eBike with no assist is kinda heavy. You will definitely feel the motor getting sluggish as the battery voltage drops. It's resting voltage and available current at 20% charge will be low; it's output voltage under load will be super-low. This is a great time to use assist-level 1, and pedal harder, since that will minimize the current from the battery and allow the individual cells inside to stay equalized. For Li-ion, more than 0 vs. 100% charge, the RATE of charge/discharge relates to stresses on the interconnections between cells (cell imbalance, especially as the pack gets older and vibrations have degraded some of the connections), and to the cell life. So riding around full-throttle 1000Watts all the time will result in 1/2 or less the charge cycles vs. riding around at 500Watts or less of average assist to pedaling. Again, pedaling along with the motor and using assist most of the time and throttle only for managing timing at the approach to intersections and during anti-car road rage events, will increase battery life and keep you fit!

How about the Crosscurrent X from Juiced Bikes or the Sondors Metacycle? The former is the only sub-$2500 ebike I know with a 52V 990Wh+ battery and a motor rated at 750W sustained/1300W peak while the latter is a $5000 electric motorcycle with a 4,000Wh battery that can go 80MPH.
@Nphen3 жыл бұрын
I have 2 self-build hub motor ebikes that work great. I definitely want the Metacycle in a year or 2 when I am ready to buy a full helmet and gear as well. In the mean time I want to get 1 or 2 more ebikes to take them on the local trails when friends come over. All 3 friends I have gone out with have loved them. The Crosscurrent X is too slow to compare to this Nireeka. The Hyperscorpion is slower but has more features for the same price. So a tradeoff. When I looked at Nireeka website you could do full spec for $2850. For a 38mph ebike that's about the best deal right now. At least if you want to go over 30mph without a motorcycle license or insurance.

I just watched a video with the cheapest Segway motorcycle, it was $3,500 at that time, and this Nireeka Prime mid-drive is considered a bicycle and it does the same speed pretty much, has biger wheels, and carbon fiber. But the Segway is supposedly a dirt bike. They are really pretty much the same thing as far as asking the question "is it a bicycle or a motorcycle", Nireeka is called a bicycle but almost could be a motor cycle, the Segway is called a motor cycle but almost should be called a bicycle. lol I don't like the hardtail design, if it had a shock for the rear then the frame would beat out the dirt bikes on the market. I am not sure how much that would add to the price, The frame would just be made in two pieces instead of one, with a shock and a pivot point with bushings to hold them together.

Maxed out, with a pearl colour (199 dollar extra), with biggest battery, carbon fiber, and biggest battery, and some accessories, it'll be 4000 dollars. At the lowest spec without accessories it'll be (2500 dollars). There are a lot of premium e-bikes for sure and 4000 bucks does sound a lot but they can sure go a lot higher, so it does feel reasonable for what you get, big battery, big quality motor and quality mechanical parts and it looks cool. Would be cool if they offered slicks as well, as an accessory extra, purely road tires, a bit more efficient if you only want to ride it on the street.

If you pedal along, you should be able to add about 700W of human power for 6 seconds / 500W for 20s / 100W for 5 minutes / 50W continuously between resting meals (>100 minutes). If you wear spandex for aerodynamics, that extra 500-700W of power should increase your top speed at least 5mph. If you swap out some Schwalbe Big Apple or other low-friction road tires, you could probably get 10-20% increased range and top speed (and quieter ride), and longer tread life. You definitely want to get the right tire for a 1000W e-bike, as the starting friction can tear through some tires' treads in under 200 mi of riding, while other tires will go 1000's of miles fine.
