Just shows that no matter how great of a player you are in live games that play so deep most of them are never balanced in certain spots, and just to clarify in advance Andy is a beast. Imo the 'mistake' that Andy made is on the turn where I don't think that he implements a balanced strategy at all and thats what made Garrett sniff this one out. I don't think that he ever bluffs-3bet there on the turn IP, he would simply call with his good made hands that are not the nuts and even with his huge draws in order not too get blown out of the pot if gman decides to 4-bet the turn. The thing that makes this hand so great is that Gman knows that T7 no diamond there should be a call 100% of the times but decides to avoid the GTO play and just makes the exploitable laydown in an underbluffed spot with the extra difficulty that if wrong he will be ridiculed in front of the whole world. Simply great stuff from Gman, if a GTO machine played in the exact same lineups as Gman I doubt that it could extract the same amount of value even though it would have an edge in HU pots against the man.

Crazy as it might sound, I actually think, there is a case for folding already to that large turn 3-bet. Your hand can not improve, If your opponent has QT, you are dead, and if he is bluffing, he has decent equity. So nothing good can happen for you on the river, but a lot of bad things can happen. A board pair, flush coming in, even a T, that will counterfeit your hand. There is a reason, why second or third straight is often referred to with names like the dummys end. However if you call the turn and see a blank river like this, you kind of have to call again. The whole justification for calling on the turn is to catch a bluff, and when everything missed, your opponent could certainly still be bluffing on the river. You also block the nuts, and you dont block most bluffs, so this is the absolute ideal bluff catcher. So Garrett did not play this well, but in these Mike Postle days I certainly dont see this hand as evidence of cheating. If Garrett knew his opponents cards, there was no reason to check-raise the turn and put himself in this gross spot. He could just have check-called down and gotten to a cheap showdown. Or he could have gone for a smaller size. There is no reason to almost pot it, if you know, your opponent has the nuts and is going to raise you.

Garrett is so accomplished, yet watching the clip it seems he knew he was going to fold the moment the river bet landed. I suspect Garrett had a read on his opponent - maybe Andy underbluffs these situations. Normally folding the 2nd nuts (esp. when you've taken a passive line thus far) would be insane. Garrett is not insane, so he probably had a read.
@johnmar63762 жыл бұрын
Doug made the same move vs Phil Hellmuth a few months back.
@briansu63245 жыл бұрын
Hey Doug, love your videos. I just wanna add a few points to what you said at around 12:00 where you say that Garret should be calling with the 7T because he wouldn't have enough calling hands otherwise. But this assumes a linear calling strategy. I think in many of the cases where it is highly polarised like this situation, it does make sense not to call linearly and instead to put a much greater emphasis on blockers. I would be calling here with all my pair tens and queens without diamonds. Then i would call the rest of my tens. Then calling queen Ten we could possibly come up with enough calls. Now im not saying i could make the laydown in this situation, but i think it is important to talk about calling strategy in these spots in terms of blockers instead of with absolute hand strength.
When he checked river it was clear to me he was setting the trap. Check-raising all-in for value has to be 100 % the best play. True, he would've lost in this instance against the ONLY hand that beats him but much more frequently the opponent will have hands like 88, 99, 98 or an overpair and be forced to call. Check calling T7 would be WAY TOO TIGHT already and folding this hand is the action of someone who a) doesnt know poker or b) knows the opponent's exact holding...

Little weird he knew this was gonna happen way before any subconscious clues could have came in. Maybe the "gut feeling" is a little more than just a feeling. Could it be entanglement with another timeline in another universe? Hmm....... 🤔

I've watched hundreds of hours of Adelstein and Andy. Adelstein varies a lot from GTO based on knowledge of the player. He doesn't do a lot of live reads or anything, he just knows his players extremely well and plays what I would consider to be an extremely exploitive style based on individualize betting patterns and frequencies. In this case I've never seen Andy raise over the top of a check raise on the turn and then barrel the river with a bluff. It just doesn't happen.

Can't tell if you were devolving into sarcasm at 6:40 "...when you have Aces, make sure to go All-in to prevent the Table from being able to suck-out on you" Sometimes listening to Doug is like trying to filter the fly-poop out of the Pepper.

At this point these hand reviews are starting to sound more like 2+2 advice when you start being sarcastic. Perfect humour.

A perfectly balanced strategy like gto would definitely be a call. But Andy has been on latb for years and Garret knows him all to well. No chance Andy’s raise bet bet bet is balanced. No chance he shows up with a bluff 32% of the time give or take. Huge exploit fold by the gman. Just my thoughts.

but u beat all other value hands (sets) as well.. this fold is just crazy. It is insane. Even a call would have been like extremely tight imo. But folding is c r a y. CRAY
@Cowtymsmiesznego5 жыл бұрын
@@phl4423 I don't think you 3-bet sets on the turn. The BB has more QT and T7 than you, I think you really need to be careful with how much money you're putting in on that board and at that (enormous) stack depth.
@fevolenko39955 жыл бұрын
Lots of talk about balance whilst also implying 100% actions. Surely the second you invoke a balanced action, that categorises different actions? Ie How can you say "to be balanced he must.." (insert specific action)? I thought balance by definition means sometimes X but sometimes Y?
@Cowtymsmiesznego5 жыл бұрын
@@fevolenko3995 Nah, balance has nothing to do with whether you take "100% actions" or not. A simplified explanation of balance is that you have a ratio of bluffs and value in your range that makes your opponent indifferent from calling and folding. Surely, you if you ALWAYS raise the nuts closing the action on the river, you can still be "balanced", right?

in these videos its most times shown that even people that clearly have done many things right to get to those big games. ofc some have got their money completely somewhere else other than poker... but yeh the point was that people think way too much and then make horrible plays. like why would u ever call the very big rereraise at turn... with 2nd nuts if u then wont be ready to "take a look" basic check call on the river is complete blank and cant help enemy to ahead if u were ahead... u are basically giving free money away. its one of the easiest rules of poker... to call the river according to the action in this hand. u have 2nd nuts and u cant raise but u can easily check call and catch all the bluffs and even sets to make a value bet. and its not no where near allin action taking into acount their stacks are big.

Man that comment he made before the hand about not feeling well then this happening right away is severely under rated. I've been playing poker for a while and I've personally experienced it and seen other people experience it too. We have inherent psychic abilities but of course talking about it seems "crazy" but if you've played a long time and have even just kept an open mind about it, you would see it coming up

12:00 What does he mean by "use a big size to get the most bluffs into your range"?
@aboveaverage30785 жыл бұрын
If you bet full pot on the river that means you should have around 66% value hands and 33% bluffs to stay balanced... if you choose a small size that means you have to have more value hands in your range since you give your opponents a better price to call. Betting big allows you to blufg more often
@adamszabo10955 жыл бұрын
If you use a big size, your opponent gets worse odds to call, so you can put more bluffhands into your range.

Sick fold bro. Agree its a call...but if you know, you know.. I genuinely think many pros are just lucky, but Garrett is clearly a great live player. This cant be anything but a read, and a pin point one at that. Turning the 2nd nut str on a gutter then folding on a river brick means he legitimately put him on QT with such confidence its scary. Theres all the sets and over pairs he crushes. Add to that he has made many light calls and Andy knows that. For this reason alone the call is recommended, even mandatory, so making the correct fold here is next level...

Question I have is if Andy only called the turn raise, would Garrett then bet the river? Which would have been the better value for Andy?
