Incredible scenery on longest ever crank-a-thon w/Phil (Narrowboat Helen)

Leaving York for Ripon, it's a case of cranking it as far as we can in one weekend - taking in some incredible sights along the River Ouse north of York, passing Linton on Ouse and following the river as it becomes the Ure through Boroughbridge. With you at the front the sound of the canal, boat and all, is the music I want to hear. Therefore I much prefer it when you talk..Too bad about Phil no longer having a boat. Hopefully others will let him aboard. Actually seems like many single boaters would love to have him along especially on the staircases. enjoy your travels i have been brought up on the Leeds & Liverpool at FINSLEY GATE YARD in BURNLEY where they used to build wide beams Have traveled the full canal on working boats twice. My uncle was in charge of the yard & an other uncle was lock keeper at the Bingley FIVE rise. You missed a real good" PUB of the WEEK" at at SALTERFORD just near BARNOLSWICK. The pub was on the old salt route & was rebuilt on top of the old one & now has cellars on 3 levels. THE ANCHOR INN. I now live the U.S.A. but love to watch all the canal videos. Keep them coming. 7

Thank you Mike! It's all down to a steady hand and careful editing! You can go over the top with iMovie, best thing I find is to avoid the obvious transition effects and push the boundaries of some of the normal ones. Let me know how you're trip is going!

Robbie y i man, Phil seems like a canny lad. Great video, excellent footage of the route the scenery, the sky and the wildlife, the mix of real time, fast forward and some psychedelic footage was great, the double act with Phil was entertaining and the locks looked huge. Do these river sections require 2 way radios, I have heard that this is a requirement on some tidal, river or flood prone sections of waterway? Mike

Very nice scenery as you said. How much does the boat draw? The river looked very shallow in parts. For me a perfect day would be sunny T shirt weather. You had coats on so I presume it was chilly despite the sun and no wind.

LV_Woodturner It was filmed in April so fire on at night and still v cool in the mornings. Being air cooled the engine doesn't like it when it gets too hot. We were cold standing about on the boat, but as soon as we got moving, and at the end of the day it was t-shirt and shorts weather so why would you want it any warmer than that??! No idea about draw sorry 8^D

Love the videos and have traveled along with you through each one. I do have one bit of critique though, if I may; When editing, you may want to decrease the music volume a tiny bit. I found myself turning it down when the music came on to prevent waking anyone else in the house, then having to turn it back up to hear your voices. Just my two cents' worth. Hi 63Eco first of all thank you so much for joining and staying with me throughout the journey, glad to see you're still here 8^) Yes, I was aware of soundtrack volume issues, the tracks I've used here are all now turned down to 60% of their normal volume but still not good enough? Perhaps it's the software (iMovie is not the best program for sound mixing) I don't know. I am proud of my music, so the last thing I want is it to become so quiet it's part of the background - I use headphones to check the sound levels so I wonder perhaps for now try those to see if it's any better? Sorry!

A little while ago you mentioned that you had a bit of an issue with engine heat build up. I was just looking at Ed's Narrowboat. He has almost the same engine, looks like he did a bit of tin work, with some aluminum duct, to vent the heat overboard. Might want to check it out. Cheers bud

What a surprise that you added a crew member, NB Brown. Even more surprising was the fact that this was on a 20 mile, two lock leg. A beautiful one, too. Actually rather work free cruising compared with Mr CTC who recently posted footage of lock after lock going up and down more than straight ahead. But, with Professor Brown helping, how did you manage to get lost and leave the Ouse and find yourself on the Ure? Was Bella navigating?

We actually had quite a chilled out trip talking more about life and stuff like that. We cranked it so hard I think the engine needs an oil change and valve clearances/tappets looked at - and exhaust needs new heat wrap so will cover that in the next vid!

No not all - most new/posh ones are a lot quieter. I do use ear plugs but only for my angle grinder or when watching metal bands 8^)
