These were my tools back in the day. I even used a Roland VP330 on stage at church. We had fun!

I still have my very first synth I bought in 1986, an Oberheim Matrix-6, though I always regretted not getting the DX-7 instead.

The “Amazing Grace” bagpipe sound on the Odyssey was awesome. I got a good kick out of that. Thanks for reminding us about the wonderful quality of sound from these synths that can add so much to worship.

While the Odyssey does have great arpeggiated sounds, the ARP in the name stands for the founder of the company Alan Robert Pearlman...

My first time seeing anything from this channel. The arp comment lost a bit of credibility with me. I came to comments to see if anyone else caught it. Don't worry, I'll give him another chance. 😊 That said, it's possible that he was referring to the odyssey part of the name and the next comment he makes about spacey sounds. Anyway, good concept. I used to use a Roland jx3p, sh101 and a matrix 6 in the early 2000's as part of a worship band in a church that used to meet in a night club that belonged to the artist formerly known as prince. How's that for vintage. :)the strings and organ in the jx3p sounded so good. Going to check out your other videos now

Thanks for the correction, guys! While this is definitely a fact we knew, I *always* forget it on the fly, and did so during this shoot. Oops! Oh well! Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment! -David

A Super JX (with the Vecoven upgrade) lives in my studio. Truly one of my favorite synths. Used heavily in the late 80's by one of my heroes, Russell Ferrante of The Yellowjackets.

Thanks for doing a video on this! I'm a guitar-playing worship director, so I've been watching your channel a lot to learn more about keys in worship contexts, this has been very educational! Can you do one on the mellotron? I've been seeing it a lot in worship videos and I can't find any content on how it's being used in worship

I paid $1200 for my Juno 60 back in the 80s. Had the addon box at one point that made it midi compatible. :).

If you’re new to hardware synths I’d definitely recommend a Behringer Deepmind 12. You can create a lot of vintage synth sounds from multiple vintage synths plus a ton of new stuff you cant do with vintage synths plus it has built in effects. The sky is the limit and just like vintage synths it’s analog. People who have deep pockets and know what they’re doing spring for Moog, hydrasynth and numerous other top tier and vintage synths and grab a few outboard effects like Strymon Big Sky and Timeline but even those guys will admit the amazing value the Deepmind is. The big pro about the the Deepmind 12 for beginners is that it will give you visual feedback to help you understand what you’re actually doing and there’s a huge user base and large amount of sound banks available out there in multiple online forums and user groups. I’m really surprised more churches haven’t integrated the Deepmind 12 based on cost and performance. All the sounds on one keyboard or tabletop is incredible. Sunday Sounds, please grab one one of these units and release your own custom patches or just review all the patches that are out there built by other users.

The Deepmind is the "Juno for a new millennium" that Roland SHOULD be making instead of that irritating little Boutique JU-06 or the unaffordable Juno-X :P

You should do a part two of this video featuring synths like the Alpha Juno, D-50, Ensoniq VFX, e.t.c.

If ROLAND does not do a reissue of this synth they are leaving a lot of money on the table. I would buy 5!

They already have! Sunday Keys 2022 already has patches from the Juno-60, DX7, and the Super JX, and they all sound fantastic!

Like Corban commented, we sampled all these instruments and you can browse the patches in Sunday Keys! Sorry if we didn't make that clear in the video!

Funny fact is that the Juno-60 and 106 were regarded as budget synths. Read the reviews when they came out.

Aren't you worried about using one of the devil's instruments to worship our Lord? Remember, God slew two people once in Numbers 3 for offering strange fire before the Lord.
