There were two versions of the Doobie Brothers. One that you have here with Tom Johnston and the later version with Michael McDonald. Totally different sounds but both were great. I prefer this version with the guitar based sound. They played so many instruments it would have been easy to sound cluttered, but they never did. They were one of the most precise musical bands ever. For your next song just do Listen to the Music, their first big hit. I promise you'll love it too! You're in for a surprising ride with the Doobies!
@TheDivayenta Жыл бұрын
If you see them in concert now, all the instruments are in full play. Michael and Tom are together and John McFee is a string instrument genius.

I don’t believe it was Michael but one of the African American band mates was the other lead singer
@TheSpliffstarEffect Жыл бұрын
@@davelimboTiran Porter. He was the original bass player. Their current bassist, John Cowan is also just as talented, and took up quite a few lead vocal duties on their current leg of their 50th anniversary tour due to Tom being sidelined recovering from surgery. I saw them just a few days ago, and Pat and the John's carried on so well without Tom there.

This was when the Doobie Brothers were GREAT. Every song on this album is 100% wonderful. Just truly inspired. I guess that "complexity" was why a YES fan like me loved it so much. Can't say I really cared much for their offerings after this album, especially when they started to sound _really commercial._ But this one is a gem!

Yes, please do the song “Jesus is just all right” and after that China Grove… Those are hits from their 70s classic rock style and as they got into the 80s the lead singer Tom left for a bit and Michael McDonald replaced him which gave them a totally different 80s feel. When you’re ready to go down that lane you’ll see the difference but both of them sounded awesome. Different vibes but the most awesome music ever. It was great to be young during those times. I still listen to their music. Thank you Salvo!

This is the song that hooked me to the Doobie Brothers. You were exactly right when you guessed "a lot going on but very articulated" haha. Love the blend of groovy electric and acoustic. I think they're also one of the few bands with two very successful and different incarnations with two different singers that aren't pitted against each other by fans and have even toured together recently.

I attended my one and only Doobie Brothers concert in college in 1974. So much fun! No beer sold in the venue, so my friend and I sat in the parking lot and split a six-pack of Colt 45 in about 30 minutes. Got to our seats in the bleachers at the far end of the arena and once it started, we worked our way down to the front of the stage. I thought my eardrums got damaged. Awesome time!

Read up on the "Michael McDonald Effect." He joined DB later than this song, but you heard his voice when you reacted to "What a Fool Believes." He sang backup on SO MANY records for other people and also as a solo artist. Pretty much anything he did turned to gold. Pre-Michael, do "China Grove." With Michael, try out "Takin' It to the Streets."

No, no, nooooooooo... yes the studio is amazing but you HAVE to check out the music video (a montage of live performances). You HAVE to see them perform this!!! They are INCREDIBLE Live!!💯💯💯 Understand, I was only 2y/o when this was released. Far too young to understand the meaning/inspiration behind it. Yet, it is part of the soundtrack of my life. In later years I discovered the background story on this one and let me just say... it's fascinating and funny!!😂 As a little girl as much as this song tickled me... I always wondered who "miss Lucy" was (yet somehow, I understood her plight). Turns out there was NO miss Lucy! The name just fit with the lyrics! lol!! However, her story isn't fictional in essence. Anyway, PLEASE revisit "Long Train Running'" sometime. I'll send you the link. Great reaction Salvo!! Peace, light and love to all...💞

This song started as a jam they used to do live that had no official lyrics. They would improvise lyrics at times and it always had to do with trains. At some point they decided to write official lyrics for it and it became this sort of strange mix between trains and the consequences of not having love in your life. It works somehow. Brilliant song, I've yet to hear anyone say they didn't like it.
