I thought the villain was way too predictable. Also expecting me to believe Elastagirl doesn't have the reaction timing to prevent mind control goggles from being put on her face while she is clearly on her guard I thought was terrible. I was also really hoping the villain would actually be convinced to stop being evil this time. Spoilers beyond this point in what I pictured would happen with the villain and Helen: I really expected Helen to convince the clearly sleep deprived Evelyn to stop her evil scheme be telling her something like: "I am not your brother and I am not defending your fathers actions!" Then Evelyn would reply with skepticism: "What?". Helen continuing with: "It is not the fault of supers your father didn't use their safe room. It isn't my fault, nor the heroes he tried to call's fault. It is his own. You can't keep blaming supers for your father's mistake. It is you who is acting like a child blaming others!" And then of course she would be in denial at first which would queue the fight scene between Helen and Evelyn going back and fourth some more until eventually Evelyn starts crying. I mean heck, Winston even said that Elastagirl is better at cleaning up her messes than Mr. Incredible. This could be shown here with her actually saving the villain from herself where Bob failed with Buddy as he remained a villain until his demise. That is how I would have ended the villain's story arc, but maybe that is just me.

I agree the villain was the biggest flaw of the film. But it was so obvious who was the villain that I'm not sure it was even trying to be a twist. But to be fair I don't mind that 1 flaw because the rest of the film was awesome and extremely refreshing.

I saw it last night, it was ok. The sequel definitely emphasizes more on the family and dealing with their issues. I thought the first one had a more interesting main plot however, and a better villain.

I was happy about that. There were very adult themes, some cursing and some alcohol. It’s not going to be a perfect squeaky clean world, and it’s how a lot of us act and talk. So I’m glad we’re opening up to it more in animation.

With that fight scene with the flashing lights, I was okay when I watched it, but I immediately thought of the Pokémon porygon episode that got banned 20 years ago after children in Japan were hospitalized for epileptic seizures from the intense red and blue lights flashing so fast.

In terms of the villain, I think back to that line of hers about her brother "He's a child", when talking about their past. I think she's driven by the anger she felt as a child when she lost her parents because Supers weren't there. She grew up ignoring the logical argument that Supers couldn't be there because they were being made illegal, and so her child's anger festered over the years.

I prefer the first movie over the sequel. The first film's my favorite of the Pixar movies, but this one, not only had a predictable villain, but also structurally felt like the first film, almost note-for-note. But I did enjoy this movie for everything else. Also, the intro with Brad Bird, Craig T. Nelson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Holly Hunter wasn't just for the IMAX theaters, it also played in the regular theaters. And yes, I did see it twice on both screens.

Just saw the film, and, in my opinion, it doesn't surpass the original, but it doesn't sink below it either. Both films are equally good with their own strengths and flaws. It's definitely the best Pixar sequel since Toy Story 3.

I agree with Doug about the rewrite statement. I've noticed that with Syndrome, just write one more scene of resolution with him and it would have been perfect, same with this villain. Write at least more thing for that villain and it would have been perfect. Ghost Protical had a villain problem too. I noticed that it's with the villains.

It's interesting that you say that the sequel focused more on the family than the first film. I will agree that all the family members were on screen more often, but I think this film lacked more sequences featuring the family fighting as a team. The first film ended with the family finally becoming a super hero team, so I was bummed out that Bob and the kids didn't do more super hero work apart from the introduction and the final act of this movie. Dash in particular did very little with his powers in this movie. Even in the first film which was admittedly more Bob-centric, Helen and the kids still had a lot of action sequences on Syndrome's island.

Oh, you think being able to tell the twist villain immediately is bad enough? I looked up a cast list like a month ago, and you can tell from the character's name who it is (which they really shouldn't announce, when the name is a pun that gives it away). If you do that in the damn marketing, it's not even a twist anymore, so don't write it as if it's some surprise

I just saw it today too, and I did really enjoy it. I don't know if I like it more than the first, but it is very close. The only weak part is the plot itself, it's very predictable, but seeing the family together really makes it worth it. P.S.: I didn't see this in IMAX (and in a different state), and I had the live-action intro with the voice actors saying thanks for waiting and everything as well. So it's probably going to be in most theaters.
