This needs to happen. Really really needs to happen. Like, I could play that before the Senatorum Imperialus and Adeptus Ministorium and they would actually do something useful for once needs to happen. Like, I could play that for the Emperor and he'd pick is ancient decayed backside up off the Golden Throne and get stuff done needs to happen. Like, I could play that and Ferrus Manus and Sanguinius would come back from the dead and all my other brothers would come back and we could all go kick the crap out of Lorgar for being such an idiot needs to happen. Also, #BlameLorgar.

Oprah's character wasn't even the leader in the book! That was Mrs. Whatsit! (Reese Witherspoon in the movie) Oprah's role, Mrs. Which, was just the bitter, eccentric third wheel that Mrs. Whatsit had to constantly tell off! Stupid Oprah's not even appeasing her ego correctly! *clears throat* Sorry, had to get that out there.
@monicaenglish2566

Sam Miller Actually, Oprah’s character Mrs. Which was the leader in the novel since she was said to be the wisest of the three and Reese Witherspoon’s character Mrs. Whatsit was the youngest of the three.

One thing I like to point out didn't Mrs. Which get her name because she looks like a FUCKIN Witch? Also She was kind of bitch in the book, her and meg didn't get along at all from what I recall. Also Mrs. Whatsit was the one who had faith in meg.

Monica Solano True, but she still definitely wasn't as prominent in the story as the other two. She was even the last to be introduced, if I remember. Mrs. Whatsit might have been the youngest, but she's still the most talkative and the one with the most connection to Meg.

"Childlike without being childish" - this has never been Disney's strong suit, but more than that, their flaw is that they have no faith in their audience. They don't believe that their audience, which are typically children, can follow complex storylines, or cope with heavy concepts, without it being watered down and spoon-fed to them. So the actually meaning of the book is broken down into platitudes, and all we're left with is whimsy without weight. "A Wrinkle in Time" would be a difficult for anyone to adapt, but Disney is exactly the wrong company to do it.

I have to disagree. Rewatching Disney movies all my life, I don't really think they talk down to children, at least not as much as I've seen other animation studios do, like with Sony or Illumination. Disney can present heavy concepts and dark elements into their stories. I think though why might think Disney is because when your a child watching a film by them you're not fully going to understand them or maybe see them fully at a young age. What I like about Disney is that they introduce such theme to young audiences and what makes Disney last is that as you grow older you go and see maybe more mature ideas because you are beginning to experience them more. What I love about Disney I've gone from watching some of my movies as a kid just like the songs or the heroes and villains, and then as I got older viewing them again and seeing what lies beneath and understanding it more because of the experiences I've grown up with. I can though agree that Disney does put in goofy aspects to their stories and that can be attributed to being a company that mainly cater to the young audiences and that's part Hollywood entertainment to thaat demographic and in regards to adapting books it can be hard and they will change certain aspects of it to either view with their standard or current modern standards, for better or worse. But to able to do that and blend it with compelling stories and characters in thier best movies that can last decades in some cases is something I have to admire.

SINCEA King second channel If you deliver a good message but do it cynical and bad with no passion, it kind a destroys the message. When the people who made this movie put in this scene at the beginning, it was a chart decision "Hey, say something about love and how it is the ultimate power or something. That way, we manipulate the audience to feel really sad when the father suddenly disappears. And we can make everyone who doesn't like it look like heartless bastards. Brilliant!" That is simply not a conversation a father would genuinely have with his daughter, even if he really loves her.

I put this on the Tamara Just Saw: the movie was aggressively generic. It removed all the spirituality, the Aunt Beast planet, the twins...I mean Meg in the book is whiny, impatient, not attractive, full of faults. The Mrs Ws were old ugly witches, which made Mrs Whatsit's transformation amazing. Mrs Which (Oprah's character) is rarely even seen. I highly recommend the book still, but now it has TWO awful movies attached to it.

As someone who wrote their senior capstone paper in college on this novel, yes it’s so strange and pretty out there. But what makes it work better as a novel rather than a film is its spiritual symbolism and scientific imagery that work so well on paper because it takes the time to explain both themes and how they intertwine together. Hence, a universe based on living within a scientific world through faith. Also, it was Mrs. Which that was a spec of light. If you pay close attention to the characteristics of each Witch while reading the book, you’ll notice how they symbolize the Holy Trinity in some way.

All my life, I’ve been really into books. I was reading Harry Potter to myself at age 5. Until sometime in middle school, there was only two books that I put down in the middle of. One was Lord of the Rings, as it was just too dull and long for me (trying to read it again now), but the other was A Wrinkle in Time. My mother tried to read it to me first, and it gave me nightmares for at least a week. I then had to read it for school in 5th grade, and it was still terrifying. Thank you for this review. If you had said the movie was good, I would’ve felt obligated to read it again.

The book is good, but a product of its time (1960s). The author saw modern science and spirituality as kind of a unified whole. As a kid, it feels like a nice fusion of fantasy and sci-fi (some nods to Einstein relativity in there). The book also didn't shy away from talking about Jesus or Buddha (or Euclid or Copernicus). It was also anti-communist (Camazotz) and everything becoming homogenized. Still is a nice story.

About the "everyone is beautiful in Hollywood part" I agree that is really something which get me out of a movie or even a show, I find this particularly annoying in modern shows everyone is beautiful so you can pair them up for some sex scenes all you want and it feel so artificial and wrong. HOWEVER there's one case of casting in big blockbuster I will get behind forever : Ginny Weasley from the Harry Potter movies, obviously by the point they were making the second movie the producers had NO IDEA that she'd become a main character and Harry love interest I'm pretty sure they thought Hermione would so they casted Ginny not as a love interest but how she's portrayed in that book an awkward kid and I think the actress is charming, this feel like a real person not a poster kid for some shampoo commercials so this one is more on Rowling taking her time developping her characters. Overall the Harry Potter movie are pretty good at this but the Ginny case really take the cake for me!

Why do people feel the need to make fun of Christianity? Who cares if the book had strong Christian overtones! Christians are so underrepresented in film and television today. True. It feels like in the interest of "diversity" they have refused to show an openly Christian character in a while. When they do, it is over the top and offensive. If the equivalent was done for a person of any ethnic background (except white. still fine to be racist against whites if you feel like it) they would be harangued for their racist actions. Ok, but I hated how it was shot. You couldn't absorb the atmosphere because the characters were looking directly into the camera. There were so many closeups. It was distracting. The script was awful, they should have cut out a lot of the witch stuff, and let them go on their journey. There is a difference between telling us morals and showing us them. The entire time they were just telling us. Actions speak louder than words. Some things made no sense, save your money.

If you wanted to do a nostalgia critic on it but you were worried that there isn't enough content, you could always do an old vs new and compare and contrast the idea of following the book exactly or adding a whole bunch of new stuff. I remember about 10-15 years ago when I was in grade school we watched a Wrinkle in Time movie after finishing the book...

dumblydorr_61441 Despite the story being based on Noah and the Flood, I thought Many Waters was one of the best in the series. I liked that the twins were given a chance to be the heroes for once. Plus I liked that Noah's sons and daughters were fleshed out characters.

I recently re-read the series and agree that Many Waters is one of the better ones of the series (though my favorite is still A Swiftly Tilting Planet). I also loved the metaphor in that book of the inevitability of Noah's flood was for the perceived inevitability of nuclear annihilation at the height of the Cold War--and how one tries to live their life with that sword of Damocles hanging over their head. It really explains the twins reactions to the possibility of nuclear annihilation in Book 3 a lot more.

Nothings touching that franchise for a while. Honestly, with all the stuff still coming out, I'd say Harry potter (or at least the wizarding world) is the new Harry Potter. The only 2 film franchises to make more at the box office to date are Star Wars and the MCU. It takes a cultural phenomenon to beat a cultural phenomenon.

So... this is the movie where my kids learn that the book is always better? IT, Central Central Intelligence, the man with the red eyes, and the Happy Medium are all in the book, which is often an early sci-fi book for kids. The hardest thing to get across would be Mrs. Which, who tttaaaaallkkkkkssss llllliiiiikkkeee tttthhhhiiiiissssss. She was a hard character to read aloud. Read the book, it's definitely worth it despite the overtones. It's also the first of several books about the various members of the Murray family. They are worth a read too- A Swiftly Tilting Planet is my favorite.
