The border between Scotland and England luckilly is very short, so easy to manage. And yes, it would be a very hard border. Which, on a plus side, would create jobs and investment in this Scottish border area. Frankly, any nation willing to submit to Rule by the entitled, incompetent and corrupt Westminster elites deserves a Darwin Award. And they're not getting better, only worse. The Yanks already sussed as much in the 1770s. Followed by the rest of the Empire in the centuries after that.

I'd rather trade one hard border with England than the 27 we now currently have because of England.

"The flexibility shown on the Irish border may not be replicated" Due to the terrorists veto. So if Scottish people started bombing shopping centres it might be. Nice of you to admit that's why N Ireland is "special".
@gloin10

@daniel webb "Due to the terrorists veto"? Oversimplification is for simpletons. Northern Ireland is special for many reasons. Firstly, and most obviously, its constitutional status differs hugely from that of the other constituents of the UK, in that it is defined in an international treaty, the Good Friday Agreement(GFA).
@danielwebb8402

@@gloin10 Defined as... Part of the UK That the Republic of Ireland have no claim on. Is explicitly defined in that international treaty. You are correct. What isn't at all is any bar on a "hard", or normal international, border. It's just people haven't actually read it. Or have but wish it said different to it does.

No-one on the panel admitted any such thing. They were referring to the relationship between the NI/Ireland border and the international treaty called the Good Friday Agreement. Scotland would not be bound to such a treaty when it comes to managing its borders.

U.K. Economy Sees Best Annual Growth Since World War II in 2021 GDP expanded 7.5% in 2021, putting U.K. at top of G-7 league Surge came despite December drop when omicron hit spending, but not a work in media I wonder why?
@gloin10
@gloin10 2 жыл бұрын
The UK's economy's 'surge' is barely a dead cat bounce.... In 2020, the UK's economy suffered the most dramatic DECREASE since the UK began compiling economic statistics. It SHRANK by slightly less than TEN PERCENT. So, even IF your claim about "...GDP expanded 7.5%..." is true, it is obvious that the UK's economy has STILL NOT regained the size it had before Covid-19 arrived....

Could you tell me where you got this information from as in reality Scotland has no borrowing powers. Any money borrowed was the decision of the Goverment of London .Scotland did not have a deficite 1980-2014 . Now working on % we have 8% of the U.K. population but produce almost 30% of the UKs tax then in essence rUK would actually owe Scotland money when it leaves.

i know this is about the borders. But there are bigger issues than just that. The currency for one which was a major issue in the first referendum and the deficit and the barnett formula is another. If scotland wants to join the EU then they will have to make drastic changes to their spending as dictated by the EU. experts have put this at either a 14 percent tax hike, or 16 percent of austerity or a mix of both to satisfy the EU that their finances are in order. The EU has been bitten by greece and they will not want that again.

@@kevinkevin-ug9po you asked for it.Public finances The Scottish government is funded by a combination of a block grant from the UK government, devolved taxes-primarily, income tax-and borrowing. The block grant reflects the fact that taxes collected in Scotland, other than those that are devolved, go to the UK government. The grant is calculated through the Barnett formula. This aims to allocate the Scottish government a share of any changes in spending announced in England, adjusted for population size. The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) has said that in 2020/21, 67% of total funding for day-to-day spending (‘resource funding’) in Scotland came from the block grant, if extra temporary funding to address the coronavirus pandemic is included, or 57% if Covid-19 funding is excluded. The IFS also reported that most Scottish Government investment (‘capital’) spending is also funded through the block grant. Overall, the IFS found that per-person funding for the Scottish Government in 2020/21 was 131% of that for England for the equivalent responsibilities, and that the vast majority of the difference is accounted for by the block grant. In 2020/21, the Scottish Government’s total fiscal deficit was 22.4% of GDP including an illustrative share of North Sea oil and gas revenues, or 23.8% excluding North Sea revenue. For the UK as a whole, the Office for Budget Responsibility reported a deficit of 15.2% of GDP

And given the SNPs position that Scotland has been "taken out of the EU against her will", they'll obviously now believe that if say Scotland votes for independence but Ayrshire votes no, that Ayrshire shouldn't be "dragged put against her will".

@@danielwebb8402 Ayrshire is not a separate country from Scotland. Scotland IS a separate country from England.

@@helenaville5939 And that's relevant because.... There waa no such "country" veto in the UK wide vote. So if the SNP believes there should have been. Then why do they not think there should be a county veto in a Scotland wide vote?
@helenaville5939
@helenaville5939 2 жыл бұрын
@@danielwebb8402 Because no country should ever be controlled by another country or a number of other countries. Just because there was no country-veto as you call it doesn't mean it was right that there was no country-veto. To hold a referendum among 4 countries and 2 of those countries vote yes and the other 2 vote no, and it's decided that the 2 who voted one way should get their way and the other 2 should suck it up is naive beyond belief and will of course inevitably cause major disharmony among the group of four countries. That inevitable disharmony is currently being played out today. Your questioning of the relevancy of a country over a county shows the level of your own naivety so it's no surprise you don't "get it" regarding the inevitable disharmony among the four countries. Goodbye and I wish you well regardless.
