Benares, in the North-East of India, the most important holy city of the country… Planted on the banks of the Ganges, sacred river par excellence, few places in India are as colorful, chaotic and imbued with spirituality as Benares… Hindus cremate their dead, but to be sure that they reach paradise directly by avoiding the cycle of reincarnations, it must be done in Benares… Every day, strange funeral processions converge on the city, some come from very away... Then, in the tumult of the crowd and the traffic, the corpse is carried on the back of a man through the streets, for several kilometers to the bank of the Ganges... From the four corners of the country, every week, thousands of tons of wood arrive in Benares…Cremations are the main reason for this…It happens that up to 300 bodies are burned per day, such a flow imposes a bewildering stock of logs…The “wood route” is a huge business shared by a few local families… India and st also the world's leading producer of coal and all around Benares, open pit mines abound... Once extracted, the precious ore reaches the city's giant deposits by road... Throughout the year, thousands of pilgrims go to Benares to immerse themselves in the Ganges… We wash away our sins there, we implore the deities… By train, bus, tractor and even on foot, all means of transport are good to reach safely…

@@indiasuperclean6969 You are joking I am sure of that. It is in fact the filthiest most polluting country in the world and many scammers live there. And there are not any clean toilets, there are very few, the country uses the lake and river as the toilet. There is no sense in trying to paint a pretty picture of that horrible third world country, the whole world knows the truth.

Она залечила мои душевные раны и направила на путь истинный))) INDIA- ONE LOVE!!!!

I watched another documentary on the Ganges that had a segment on Benares. I find it amazing, the resilience of the human body, if anyone from America or England went there and bathed in the Ganges they would likely fall VERY sick because there body is not custom to the water. However these people have been bathing in the Ganges and other rivers there whole lives. There body's have adapted to the microorganisms and contaminants. The human body is an amazing organism. I watch these documentary's when I feel down or depressed in my life, all of us feel like the challenges of life keep grinding us down but when I think about how much harder life is for others in the world, I get over feeling sorry for myself and be grateful for the life I have.

It's a very old video and this chanal always posts anti India videos and falsely narrated videos ... Its not beneres it's Banaras and not genges or something it's Ganga.... The River Ganga... The situation today of Banaras...is best, clean and managed... The present government is working best for the country.... The old government Congress has destroyed (Bharat)India and it's culture....and this chanal is fake..

Interesting take, these documentary's are old I grant you but that doesn't make them irrelevant. As someone in America I know little about India witch is why I try to learn. It is my understanding that Ganga is a godess in heaven that descended to earth in the form of a river to carry sins away and bring the deceased to there next lives. I have watched recent documentary's and while things are getting better in India the industry is clashing with the spirituality. Industry that carelessly disposes of its waste in the river while the masses continue there bathing in the river without fear, there faith maintaining them. A documentary is not fake just because it's old, they simply show how things used to be. @@magnusRAWBhaarat

Their daily challenges are incomprehensible to my way of life. I was lucky enough to be born in to a country where life is less challenging where I have access to services to services to make like less challenging. I am reminded of a old story: An American man on his holiday in India sees a fisherman catch a fish and come to the shore where his family is waiting for him. He goes up to him and says “Hey if you had a bigger boat, you can catch even more fish which means you can have a big company, list it on the stock exchange and buy even more boats”. The fisherman asks, “So what do you do after doing all this and getting all this money?” . The American replies: “Relax on a beach, grill a fish and spend time with my family”.

Stop stereotyping India, yes north India where Varanasi is located is certainly worse but thats not the entire India or that does not mean India has a single culture, actually people like you are ignorant and ill informed with age old ideas! India is one of the most diverse countries culturally, racially! Your statement about Indias culture and Genes is rubbish!!! India has hundreds of different cultures from within which widely varies from region to region and Indians are not monoracial like Chinese, India is home to one of the largest number of different ethnic groups and races some of which are even from other parts of the world, Indian community is very diverse as well as in terms of religion, all major religions have a huge presence in India! Buddhists are not dirty Sikhs are not dirty Zoroastrians are not dirty This religions are some of the major religions in India Moreover calling Indian society as poor and uneducated is wrong because South India, Northeast India and Northwest Indian Himalayan states have high literacy rates! Look at South India! It is industrialized, home to a large number of engineers, IT workers and also have minimal poverty Bangalore is known as Silicon Valley of Asia! Moreover ganges is dirty only in Varanasi, look at Rishikesh a town in North west Indian himalayas, the ganges there is just clean if you dont believe see the travel vlog by youtuber Ride with Gabi, an American! Look how Rishikesh is! Similarly Ladakh, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh are as beautiful and clean as Europe yes Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh is Northeast India with serene mountains and buddhist monasteries, meghalaya in northeast India has the cleanest village in Asia, Mawsynram! Documentary is a lie, it is not the main ganga river bank, main ganga river bank is in haridwar,in haridwar water is clean just like glacier water Main River banks are neat and clean and water is also clean, if you will move 2 km away from the main River bank then you will see clean blue water No one takes water or drinks water from the cremation place, water flows too fast and no one is allowed to go inside because in the past many people drowned That water comes from the glacier and it is clean but yes till banaras which is roughly 1000 kms away it will be dirty because of industries

This is less malignant than doc. about The Ganges ; there are 1) thieves on the roads 2) police corruption 3) the holy Ganges where the ashes of corpses & baby corpses directly discarded into the water w/out being cremated ( because they believe the baby corpses are free of germs!!), taking a bath in that water, washing clothes nearby, cows & boars inside the water next to those humans, etc. etc. W/ no question at all the water is severely contaminated w/ germs, & so the mortality rate is obviously very high, but just a few wks ago India has exceeded China in terms of population being nearly 1.4 billion, cause the birth rate has been exponentially & increasingly much higher than the death rate. I assume they must have been spending a significant portion of time on their beds. ,,,,(10/27/23)

"spending a significant portion of time on their beds" ...sorry but that seems very biased, as if they even have a comfy bed to lie in for most of the day.......these people have to be active from dawn to dusk to gather a few cents to eat for the day. Anyway......all that contamination doesn't seem to harm the population increase.
