Absolutely true! Kerala is undeniably a stunning state. Its serene natural beauty, communal harmony, clean and safe food, along with its rich cultural heritage, make it unique. The difference becomes evident only when one travels outside the state. Kerala leads other states in terms of HDI, literacy, low poverty levels, and cleanliness. However, the state needs to prioritize job creation and shed its anti-corporate mindset. With these changes, Kerala could truly become a paradise.

That's certainly a compliment! But here’s something to be genuinely proud of Kerala Tourism is actually a case study topic in my university here in Germany. It was my first real introduction to Kerala, and I was surprised to learn about the achievements of a state from my own country, India, through a German institution. Kerala Tourism pioneered creative marketing strategies well before the Internet era, placing billboards across Europe in the late 70s and early 80s with nothing but a beautiful scene, the phrase 'God's Own Country,' and a contact number. It’s remarkable how they managed to capture international attention with such simplicity. Even today, they continue to innovate with one of the oldest and most up-to-date state tourism KZbin channels.

The people of Kerala are known for being friendly, progressive, and culturally rich, with a socially conscious outlook. However, much like in West Bengal, many Keralites became heavily influenced by the CPM, which resisted several modern advancements over the years, from tractors and tillers to computers and ATMs. This resistance to change has left us with limited infrastructure and development, with the state primarily sustained by income from NRIs. While industries were pushed into strikes and development stalled, many political leaders' families started businesses in other states and Gulf countries. Ironically, some of these families, often educated in the West. The leaders live luxurious life in Kerala, enjoying vacations and medical treatments in Europe and America.
