Unlike America. India is not a new country. Almost all the cities have been in existence for at least more than 1000 years. Compared to that time roads were sufficient. In modern times it became problmatic. Please do not compare India to America in these terms. America is not older than 500 years, whereas India is more than 5000 years old civilizational state.

I will tell you why, for las 1000 years india was under foreign rule and the things never got planned because every invader would just destroy the city. During the british time the British just focused on infrastructure of places where they stayed so never really designed the city and it was all a mess. After independence people from rural area started coming to cities for job and started buying land and houses without any proper regulations and government didn't had any money to plan and build the city properly. Now there are very serious isse city like delhi but if you go outwards from delhi you will see proper roads, building, transit and thats because when delhi was full and more people were coming a board was setup to plan the cities where people can stay, buy homes etc and since then it has become quite ironic that the main city is less developed than satellite cities. Most of the houses built in Delhi is also illegal and doesn't follow any regulation plus there are many illegal immigrants who have settled in delhi but people don't bring a proper government to the power because current government of delhi is giving freebies and supporting illegal activities which is slowly decaying the city. They water supply board is in debt because of freebies, the electricity companies are in debt due to freebies, number of busses have reduced to half because even after getting money from center government isn't buying busses, metro is in loss after pandemic, crime rates have increased, there is no water treatment plant and they yamuna river which was supposed to be used as inland waterways smells and looks like sewage. If we want to make the city better then we have to stop the freebies and bring another government but I don't thing it will happen before 2025, it's sad to see my city in this state but it is what it is.

India places too much emphasis on GDP and not on GDP per capita which is what matters. You can basically increase your population to increase GDP but what does it mean for quality of life? The entire 1.4billion people consume a total amount equal to that if 66million people in the UK.

As an Indian who spent all his 23 years in Mumbai I'd like to tell you that most of the cities and the houses, buildings weren't designed at all. Laws weren't strict or well crafted enough so people or immigrants would just build slums out of nothing and nowhere and now under SRA ( Slum rehabilitation authority ) they're getting homes in redevelopment in buildings. People or builders just built houses and building any land they found in city and that's why Mumbai gets flooded everytime in monsoon but Navi Mumbai is totally opposite of it.

You simply can't compare many thousand years of old and big cities of India to the new and modern cities of America. Indian cities were built and existed hundreds and thousands of years before America was discovered😃. When American civilization as a nation came into existence the world and humankind were already progressed alot in the phase of construction and industrialization so they started to build cities by a specific modern designs due to the modern expertise existed at their times. India has one of the oldest civilization so the cities here were undesigned so there are totally new modern cities being built and the old ones can only be updated and modernized not fully changed😊.
