Funny and packed with insight, join Ensar Oud and Sheikh Ehab as they discuss one of the most controversial aspects of oud: that funky, 'barnyard' aroma of Indian Oud.
The discussion reveals more about Ensar's personal role as the ambassador of oud, mediating between the 'desert aesthetic' of Arabian oud and the Kodo culture of Japan and China.

I have been a huge fan of oud for about 13 years now, and I've only been able to smell 1 oud oil. I pray that one day before i leave this world, i will be able to smell the wonderful smell of real oud and oud wood, which I've never had the chance to smell.

I recommend Cambodian or Indonesian Oud oil you can even order very small grams of it from trusted sites and it should be good

Indian oud can be a pleasure when the quality is right and you follow the rule of less is more. It certainly needs to breathe around 20 mins to show its spectrum. Great episode as always. This is turning into a podcast almost. I like that.

Got to love Sheikh Ehab's reactions to everything Ensar is sharing with him. These "fly on the wall" episodes are so enjoyable because of the good natured banter between them and the wealth of information Ensar shares with us. Thank you both!.

This is a very interesting discussion, particularly in relation to east/south-east asia. When I first visited there, the smell of a lot of things just overwhelmed my senses and knocked me sick. The smell of fish sauce, shrimp paste, durian, and other things that over there were highly prized were just like poison to me. Over time, I started to adjust to them and now those kind of fermentation smells are to me the kind of things that make my mouth water and stomach growl in anticipation of a great meal. It makes me extremely curious to smell the strong arabic smells you're talking about here.

AsSalaaMuAlaikoom WaRehmatALLAAH Wabarakātahoo I bought some indian oudh in Bombay when i was there nd it’s got a strong fecal smell but it’s very thick aswell. I ended up paying somewhere around $290/- for a tola but I added some cambodian oudh from (arabian oudh) I purchased in dubai which diluted it nd killed the strong fecal smell upto an extent, atleast people around me are not getting headaches any more.

Do I know these guys in the video above? Nope, never met them. I only know stuff from what I can see/what I have seen and heard in some of their previous videos, in which I opined that at least one of them possibly had a background with GRAND MASTERS of Kung Fu, by which it should be remembered that the Shaolin Monasteries sent out monks and traders and medical students across the whole world in search of the best ideas and ingredients and products. I could 'detect' just from the mannerisms, the words and phrases, EVEN THE SPECIFIC TRADITION and maybe even the master himself/herself who taught this individual... It is without doubt at all, a master from one of the Southern Asian Shaolin/Shorinji schools - who are absolutely REVERED by knowledgeable Chinese people. And this is quite apart from the experts in the Arabic culture and world who deal with the material. THE NUMBER ONE GREATEST Kung Fu medicine of all, contains, as you all know, Agarwood - or Aquilaria - as one of its most important constituent ingredients (at least of the authentic medicine). ...So I will say once again - I hope and trust the tiny few hundred people who have been fortunate enough to watch these videos so far (and I hope that a lot more will) realize - you are watching real authentic things and absolute authentic masters here and they are giving extremely rare and valuable insights into this most ancient traditional exotic and esoteric and sometimes sacred icon of natural ingredients. In a world of substitutes and fakes, this is the real thing.

At first I thought it strange, almost presumptuous when people of the middle east say oud is there culture. Especially when it comes from other parts of the world. But then I thought, wait ✋ 🤔, tea does not come from Britain. However they have a valid claim on their tea culture which is different from Chinese tea culture. I recently heard a middle easterner chastise the western perfumers for using oud in western style scents. But as Ensar points out, oud is a raw material which can be used and treated with different processes to produce nuanced fragrances. It can be bold and slightly fecal. Or more understated. And it also stands to reason why desert dwellers were drawn to ouds strong scent. I lived on the edge of the Taklamakan dessert for 5 years. Dessert life and weather completely changes every aspect of life, including fragrances. A Good 👍 video which much knowledge to be learned.

I have a bottle of Oud that I got from India. It has a smokey tobacco barnyard aroma. Is this normal? I have a very small sample of Cambodian Oud from 2009 that has a much different aroma. Kind of a minty smell. Why so different? Please let me know and I thank you for your time my friend. Be well my friend. Sincerely Dudley Hamby Florida United States

I purchased some real oud Indian oud from Ajmal India, and it has no faecalness at all. it's leathery skanky(sexy), zesty, earthy, animalic. Another time I buy a small amount of so called Oudh in local attar shop, and it had a faecal smell, and it literally made me sick, I got a fever! I just threw away the entire bottle, made up my mind to never buy from local shops again!
