Fun fact: This is a poem written by Faiz Ahmed Faiz, and it's not about a girlfriend or breakup. It's actually about Pakistan. The "mehboob" in this song is Pakistan. Faiz Ahmed Faiz was banished during the era of one of the military dictators. On his return from Dhaka (when Bangladesh separated from Pakistan), he saw countless atrocities, murders, and violent crimes on his way. The second stanza (khaak men lithray huy, khoon men nehlaaey huy) refers to that part. He lost all hope, and that's when he realized that Bangladesh is gone forever. At that moment, he still loved his country, but he couldn't love it like he loved it before. Mjhe se pehli mohabbat mere mehboob na maang. Faiz still wants to go back to Pakistan though. He wants to visit Pakistan one last time before he dies. He says k "ab bhi dilkash hai tera husn, magar kiya kijye." He can't go back because he is banished. In the end, he settles himself by saying "aur bhi dukh hai zamane men mohabbat ki siwa. Rahaten aur bhi hain wasl ki raahat ki siwa). He realized that perhaps he would never be able to visit his country again, and he needs to be okay with that. Breaks my heart every time. Faiz Ahmed Faiz was a genius! His words move me like none other and brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to this masterpiece.

Most of these ghazals were written during that time and today's generation don't realise that. One other ghazal that comes to my mind is "Woh Humsafar tha".. after having been sung by QB and acted on by Fawad and Mahira.

Adding to the Fact, Considering the complex poetry, Noor Jahan took it as a challenge to sing this composition, and once Faiz Ahmed Faiz listened it sung by the Legendary Noor Jehan, He used to say 'This Ghazal was meant to be listened by Noor Jehan. Go and listen it from her whenever was requested for it at any gathering!.

What utter nonsense dude...this poem was infact written by Faiz to his lover. Faiz was an Army captain and he saw such sufferings of humans in WWII and in First Kashmir war, that his love and passion converted into love and compassion for human beings, when he says "aur bhi gham hain zamanay mein muhabbat k siwa" shows clear pain in his heart for humans...

Yes, the boys totally missed the point and took it towards break ups. Well this song basically revolves around journey from just a lover boy to a greater person who can not ignore the injustice of society and current affairs and that's why excusing his lover that don't expect from me the same love we had, when I didnt had exposure to the world outside our fairy tail.
