Indiana Jones 5 hasn't opened to great reviews and I can see why. In this review of Indiana Jones 5 I go over what went wrong with this film from the lazy and boring writing, to poorly executed characters, as well as how Helena Shaw played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge destroys the legacy of Indiana Jones. It's sad to see such a great franchise like Indiana Jones as well as Harrison Ford go out like this but in modern cinema what else can you expect.

I can't wait for disney to not only kick her out, but retcon all her movies and wipe their existence from stores, streaming and even mention in their history. Thing is, she definitely made it for herself, that's why all of the movies have the same self-insert mean character. But if everything she made is wiped, she has no legacy besides a black hole that makes people question her skills if everything vanished in the first place. Ruining her reputation not just from the audience but the higher ups that she desperately wants to be in. However this is reality and it's going to take a lot more that just firing her. She has hired people to keep her there and force her message so much; that it's deeply rooted in disney atm. It'll take a lot of clever planning, outsmarting and manipulation to change anything; I just hope the smart people than can see what she's doing, the ones who have any power are carefully preparing her exit where she cannot return lest she admit fault or find the door is closed. But that's just from what I've heard via rumors. Sadly I don't work at disney so this is nothing more than my opinion ^^

Wonder Woman. No one got torn down in that movie (other than the bad guys). I thought Chris Pine's character was great and quite strong. He is not a superhero, but he does QUITE well in that movie. Next question? I thought all the characters in the last Star Wars trilogy were just fine. Unlike many, I think getting Luke into an emotional cul-de-sac based on fear seemed quite realistic. MANY characters in the Star Wars universe have downfalls followed by redemption. It is kinda the thing in those movies.

@@rbarnes4076in star wars rey is shown as more competent and smarter than the men there. She doesnt even get proper character development and is horribly written. She is made op and is able to shoot force lighting and kill Palpatine 1 year after not knowing what the force is. She was able to defeat kylo ren in tfa when it was the FIRST TIME SHE HELD A LIGHTSABER. Luke on the other hand is shown training and struggling so it makes sense he becomes strong and he gets good development. Rey is just made op and we dont see her facing any problems. The protagonist being female is obviously forced, as you can see in the movies. Rather than actually making a strong and likeable female character they just made her op just like that so they can push their feminist agenda. Also did you see Indiana Jones 5? The thing that gets me is that Lucasfilm is trying to make Phoebe this strong, powerful, and flawless character and acts like she's the first female lead character in all the films. Did they forget about Marion Ravenwood? Even as a child, I liked her as a female character because to me at a young age, she was brave and scared and she even fought back when she needed to. Hollywood writers seem to think that to make a female character smarter every man around her has to be incompetent. Or that to make a woman strong every man around her has to be weak. They’ve sapped all the humanity and relatability to their female characters by making them a caricature. They’re doing a disservice to female characters.

"They’ve sapped all the humanity and relatability to their female characters by making them a caricature." Well said, and I have a nagging suspicion they're doing it on purpose. The subtle message behind having all their "strong women" act like men is that they don't believe feminine qualities are strong. Nothing could be further from the truth. My wife can't wrestle a moose or win a fistfight, but I think most of her ER patients are grateful for her grace and compassion under fire. She also turned my dogshit existence into a blessed one. That's strong, and feminine, but I guess it doesn't count according to Hollywood because she can't kick anyone's butts except with a gun.

I have no idea what the fuck you’re talking about. Actors get hired to do a role. They have no say in how they’re written. Are some of them assholes. Of course. But you can’t judge them based solely on what roles they accept offers for. You can’t just casually turn something like this down, you may not get a role this substantial again. It’s really telling how because men wrote the script for this movie, you default to blaming the ACTRESS. If Katheryn Bigelow wrote it, I guarantee you’d be blaming her. And of COURSE you give Harrison Ford a pass, as if he himself has NEVER been surly with fans in the past, and you completely gloss over the fact that he banged Carrie Fisher when she was 19 and he was 30-31, all while being a married man btw, but keep pretending he’s a saint. Perhaps that's why many people were disappointed with the 4rth film because they had too many unrealistic expectations for it be on par with the original Trilogy. I saw the movie and I genuinely liked it. Not as great as Raiders and Last Crusade, but I wasn't expecting it to be. Not sure where the idea of Helena Shaw being a "role model" comes from. She's very clearly meant to be a foil to Indy while also being a visual reminder of just how far Indy has come as a character. In Temple of Doom (which is a prequel), Indy was a relatively amoral treasure hunter obsessed with (in his own words) "fortune and glory." As the films went on, his moral compass developed. Helena represents what Indy used to be like. She's not a role model; she's a repudiation of Indy's old (lack of) morals.

The original ending involved Indiana waking up in his New York apartment, putting on the Fedora, and reflecting "this hat is perfection" to which fleabag responded "it will be once it fits a woman" and then she took the hat and put it on. Indy tried to protest so she aimed a machine gun at him, pointed to her eyes and said "look at me, look at me, I'm Indiana now" and then she put the dial in the hat and became the Retcon Girl, so she went to collect the Shankara Stone, The Arc of The Covenant, and The Holy Grail, but with all that power and awesomeness she became Miss Multiverse, and went to turn Lara Croft into a strong character while taking from her the Triangle of Light, El Gato from that movie with Stifler and The Rock, the mummies of Imhotep and the Dragon Emperor, and onto discover the cradle of life, and even King Solomon's Mines, and with the machine gun to embarrass every WW2 and WW1 and Napoleonic war make protagonist by taking down all the nazis in those movies before them...

Upcoming Rey Movie: Male apprentice sucks at everything, is an unlikable douche, and falls to the dark side first chance he gets. Female apprentice is great at literally everything and anything, perfect personality with no flaws, and has to bring her lesser male half back to the light side.
@funnyman1847

I would argue, that they made Helena unlikable not to show female empowerment but as a direct choice. Helena doesn't search for artifacts to put in a museum but for fortune and glory. In the movie she actually says she wants the dial so she can be famous. She steals and sells an engagement ring. I don't think even feminists would find her likeable. Furthermore, while she is insufferable for most of the movie, her character progresses at the end, stops being so unlikeable and actually cares for indy. Helana's character arc was turning from intollerable to carring. But I have to add, in this video it was said, that Helana is THE main protagonist but to me, it would be like saying Willie Scott is THE main character in temple of doom. She is not THE protagonist she is A protagonist. But i have to admit I could not stand Helena's sidekick (a.k.a Short Round 2.0). He is just so unlikeable during the entire runtime. He complains so often. And I don't even think he is supposed to be muslim as he steals things all the time.
@TaxmanTV

KK is at it again with her neo-feminism movement and it ruined the Indy franchise. Helena in Indy 5 is nearly identical to Adm Holdo in TLJ. Goes over the top to show a woman dominating a man by condescension or other emasculating means (especially against legends like Indy/Poe), has to show off being smarter than everyone else, and are completely unlikable. Based on early numbers, It's looking like a 60 mil opening weekend, which would be utterly DISASTROUS and is going to lead to a good 150-200 mil loss for Disney.

There are many examples of strong female characters in movies who demonstrate love, support, and help the men around them succeed without putting them down. Here are a few examples: Trinity - "The Matrix" series: Trinity, portrayed by Carrie-Anne Moss, is a skilled hacker and fighter who plays a crucial role in the fight against the machines. She demonstrates unwavering loyalty, love, and support to Neo, the film's protagonist, while showcasing her own formidable skills and determination. Peggy Carter - "Captain America" series: Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell, is a capable and independent agent who supports and believes in Steve Rogers (Captain America) throughout his journey. She doesn't diminish his abilities but encourages him to become the best version of himself. Hermione Granger - "Harry Potter" series: Hermione, portrayed by Emma Watson, is a highly intelligent and resourceful character who not only helps Harry Potter but also supports and nurtures the talents of her male friends Ron and Harry. She uses her knowledge to solve problems and propel the trio forward. Elastigirl - "The Incredibles" series: Helen Parr, also known as Elastigirl, voiced by Holly Hunter, is a strong and loving mother who supports her husband, Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible), and her children in their superhero endeavors. She not only saves the day alongside her family but also encourages and uplifts them. Leia Organa - "Star Wars" series: Princess Leia, portrayed by Carrie Fisher, is a charismatic and courageous leader who fights for the Rebel Alliance. She supports and inspires the male characters around her, such as Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, while contributing her own skills and wisdom to the cause. Belle - "Beauty and the Beast": Belle, portrayed by Emma Watson, is an intelligent and compassionate character who supports and helps the Beast overcome his inner demons. She sees beyond his exterior and encourages him to grow as a person, showcasing the transformative power of love and acceptance. The list goes on. Hollywood should look at these examples for how to build a strong female character who is a role model for women. Women who live life trying to put down and be better than men will end up being lonely cat ladies. Women and men are complimentary, not in competition with each other. Women and men need to learn to see how important they are to each other and how their unique skills work together to make life obstacles easier to overcome together.
