Your video is full of mistakes, sadly. The RT is required because it’s the base global illumination in the game. The Raytracing is required for any lighting in the game. The game is semi-open world in non-puzzle sections. So, you’re wrong there too calling it linear. The minimum “ray tracing” you’re referring to says “FULL RAYTRACING” right at the top. Which is PATHTRACING. Which isn’t possible on AMD GPUs. Of course you can’t promise 60fps without DLSS on an experimental path tracing mode. I generally love your videos but you and a lot of people in the comment section should have taken 30 minutes to an hour to do some research before you made this video.

Foricing RT is such a weird slap in the face to most people, imo it's been a complete gimmick to the consumer until VERY recently, and that's on a handful (if not fingerful) amount of games. Only game that springs to mind is CP77 and that had a complete RT overhaul to look amazing, but it at least had a non-RT option. When new exciting tech comes out, I feel like most people can admire it and notice it off the bat. Remember stencil shadows? The golden-era of 2000s, most games had it and you could at least appreciate what it was trying to do. All I remember from RT is those videos that compared it with non-RT options and people saying the only difference was the FPS hit. I can see RT being great for developers as I assume it stops the need for pre-baked lights, and I'm sure implementing a existing RT system to a scene is much easier, but my-god, to force it on everyone? There are still people that think RT is simply a reflection rendering technique, that lets you see your character in the windows, mirrors, and puddles of water.

People need to understand that a game engine is a tool, and just like any other tool, it's only as good as the person using it. A painter doesn't need expensive tools to create a masterpiece; skill and knowing what you're doing matter most. I've never really had a problem with the Unreal Engine itself, only the developers using it without proper knowledge to use it to its full potential. If you look back, the engine itself hasn't changed much from Unreal 4 to 5. I know the features that Epic Games showcases, but when it comes to reality, core fundamentals matter more. You can literally migrate your work from Unreal 4 to 5 with minimal failures, which should tell you that the core fundamentals haven't changed about the engine. I would actually put the blame on the devs' skill level on how to use the engine effectively. Plus, they add on tools to these engines that let the devs skip core fundamental skills and are automated in the most unoptimized way possible. Now, with upscalers and super resolutions (DLSS and FSR), it exacerbates the issue since it handles everything that should be done in a certain way. Upscaling on unoptimized code will lead to garbage in, garbage out. I remember the creator of Doom used to release the ID Tech game engine as open source once it was ready to release. Sadly, that stopped when he left id Software. Most game engines are really forks of each other, believe it or not. The Call of Duty engine was a fork of a fork of ID Tech. The Source engine from Valve was a fork from ID Tech, and Bethesda's engine was a fork of Valve's Source engine. With time, features are added, and the engine is mastered by the people who use it sadly this didn't happen, plus experience in these studios is either leaving or retiring.

Hey Joe, have you looked up gameplay for the Flash port of Doom? It plays & preforms (afaik, never played it) better than the crappy UE4 & UE5 ports

I saw leaked Series X gameplay and all I have to say is if it looks that damn good on console, im not worried about how it will look with minimum specs. It looks 100 times better than it did in their own preview showcase videos.
@TJones4L23 күн бұрын
The minimum specs are actually relatively in line with one another on the GPU side between brands It’s when the settings start scaling up that they don’t make sense A 3080 ti is much faster than the 7700 XT, it makes no sense why they wouldn’t use the 4070 or 4060 ti in the spec charts at that target

The RX 6600 and a 2060 Super are equivalent gpus, The 2060 S will do better RT though. It will likely run this game better due to the mandatory rt

Ray-tracing at 60 fps only with frame generation? So I'll get to watch the game in 60 fps while playing with at best 30 fps lag, most likely worse?

I was going to play it on Series X anyway, but those PC minimal requirements are definitely ridiculous. I have a mid range, and I only hit a few things without ray tracing.

Sadly, Unrreal Engine is comertialy open, and every other game engine is privat, so no one can use it out of their holders sphere. And that counts a lot, as sutch the only real competition for Unrreal are Cry... never mind, may be Uni... forget it, Unrreal got a monopoly for Free.

It's running like a dream on my PC: 5700X / 4070 / 64GB DDR4 100+ FPS at 1440p supreme (what they call max in this game) settings using DLAA. No resolution upscaling garbage used. As for ray tracing though, forget about that. As soon as I turned it to even the lowest RT, the framerate plummeted to 4 FPS! Needs DLSS performance to be playable at 60 FPS meaning you'd be running the game at 720p 🤮

Your looking at the future of AAA gaming with Indiana Jones and its not the only game to have those kind of specs stalker 2 and ms flight sim 24 its time to upgrade pc gamers 8gb isnt enough anymore. AAA game requirements is going to be even higher when the next gen consoles launch in 4 years.
@RomanSpinella23 күн бұрын
This chart is an absolut joke. This morons wants you to run the game with RT at all times because its easy to do that than good cube maps/SSR. And also doesnt make sense at all the specs for each setting: The i7 10700k is WAY better than the R5 3600 (RX 6600 and 2060 super are in the same ball park), but then it jumps to a 12700k and a R7 7700, what? A R7 5700x should be capable of running this shit. Also a 3080ti is WAAAAAAAAAAY more powerfull than a 7700xt and i know that it comes down to vram...but they just should put a normal 4070 that has 12gb. When it comes to the "full RT" there are no AMD cards because they cannot do path tracing. Nvidia cards can barely do it, thats why frame generation (worst feature ever) is requiered.

@auraenchanted250323 күн бұрын
your wrong in thinking they arent equivalent sort of, the rx 6600 is basically am rtx 2060 super so thats fair the intel though is wildly off, i think they were smoking crack with the intel the intel 580 is.. not quite a gtx 1660 super

All i know is that somehow the Series S and Series X somehow run the game at a vert stable 60 with ray tracing and all of that. I bet itll run great on most PCs with atleast the series S specs... I mean id think it would since reviews are saying it runs and looks great on consoles. One more day and we will know

Look, they already know this game is a trainwreck, which is why they're embargoing everything and allowing as little discourse as possible. I wouldn't touch this game until we have a couple of weeks of user reviews to look at. I have no doubt that the usual access-media suspects will shill for this thing, but I suspect this will be a repeat of Outlaws and Veilguard. Nothing associated with Disney Lucasfilm has been worth a damn for the last decade, and it's been a long time since Bethesda shipped something other than hot-garbage. As for the specs, yes, they're absolutely redonkulous (and nothing I've seen in the trailers justifies the specs from a visual standpoint).

2060 is comparable to a 5700xt so your right. Although a 5700xt has no ray tracing so that’s probably why

@acetown226323 күн бұрын
The Intel to AMD cpu comparisons are way off, as well as the Nvidia vs AMD gpu comparisons. Either the game has very little AMD hardware optimization, or they just threw random names at the spec list.
@Adromelk23 күн бұрын
DLSS and frame generation have become a crutch for lazy devs and greedy publishers instead of what they were supposed to be. Life for older gpus.
@joseijosei23 күн бұрын
Joe, this time... I have some hope. See: those are requirements for 1080p 60 fps with a 2060. Yes, low settings, but what if you use DLSS? Would that let you use medium? That GPU is a lot worse than what you find on a console, by a really long shot. It's not even close, and altho they are naming a not so old i7 there, the Ryzen 3600 is there too. That CPU performs like an i5 8600k, and it's barely better than what you find on consoles, by like 5% to 10%. So... for 60 fps and native 1080p, this is looking far better than Silent Hill 2, Hellblade 2, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dragon's Dogma 2, etc. On top of that, them asking for a ray tracing compatible GPU there is only making me think they always have RT on, which would make this look even better. It would make sense because the jump from minimum to recommended IS F*CKING INSANE. What uses a lot more GPU and CPU the higher settings you use? Ray tracing.

I have a first-generation steam deck, so I tend to run games at lower settings just so they'll run smoothly. I never cared that much for high-end specs. A better-looking game doesn't necessarily mean a more fun game to play.
@Pidalin23 күн бұрын
but problem is that in today games, graphic settings have 0 impact on FPS, especially in id tech engine, only things that really change FPS are - resolution and upscaling, that's a problem
@zuffin186423 күн бұрын
The worst idTech engine game is quake champions but that hardly counts as it's a hybrid engine. Also both doom games have multiplayer modes that run great so it's not a multiplayer issue
