Last Crusade will always remain my personal favorite in the series. Saw it when it came out in 89' and have loved it since! It has the best finale as well, with the tank chase followed by the grail/knight sequence.

I agree which is why it’s the only Indiana Jones poster that I have hanging in my movie themed room of my house. Connery and ford working together was outstanding even though their age difference is more like older brother to little brother.

My pick for the best adventure film of all time. The action is awesome, the characters are so fun to watch, the magic is firing on all cylinders, and every scene and many lines are iconic. Sean Connery as Henry Jones Sr. is my favorite addition to the franchise. This is also the movie in the franchise that I have rewatched the most. Simply put, while I acknowledge that Raiders is a classic and I also think that movie is excellent, I have always preferred this movie. Even though the movies continued after this one, the final shot of this movie ended the trilogy on a perfect note.

This film does everything Raiders did and PERFECTED it. The action is better, the humor is better, Indiana is more vulnerable and fleshed out as a character, Connery is brilliant, and most importantly this movie has HEART, which was lacking in the previous 2. Also, I can honestly say that not many films are as perfectly paced and edited as this film. There really isn't a dull moment once it starts, where the last 10-15 of Raiders kind of stalls and the entire middle act of Temple is weak. Crusade is just a perfect film. Easily top 3 Spielberg.....

I tend to rate the Indy films on two scales and that’s writing and entertainment. Crusade kind of lacks in action as say Temple of Doom, but it’s more solid with writing, logic, drama, etc. I find many people have to do this to justify their rankings of the films.
@spice_krispies
@spice_krispies Жыл бұрын
@@HellSpawn86 ????? You can't be serious dude if you believe Temple has more action than Crusade. It has more "suspense", not action. The opening sequence for one is WAY worse. Once that ends, the only action is all the way to the fistfight/mine kart scene. Between that you have nothing but suspense, not action. Crusade has the breathtaking Venice action sequence, ending with the boat chase. The castle scene escape is amazing leading into the motorcycle sequence. Then, it's the blimp/airplane, and last you have the tank scene in the desert. The ending is far more interesting than the bridge/stones nonsense. So please tell me where all this so called action is, in Temple. And if you're going by writing, Crusade is light years ahead as a script. The humor, the emotional stakes, the characters are all well written. You're just wrong about that action comparison.

My dad was never a movie person. He likes only a certain few and the original Indiana Jones movies were some. He was a big Sean Connery fan so this was always his favorite. I have very fond memories of watching this movie with him, as we didn't get to watch many that he also enjoyed. To this day if it comes on TV and we're in the same house for a get together or holiday, we always end up on the couch watching it.

Last Crusade is and has always been my favourite of the series. When I was really young I would love to watch these kind of action adventure type movies and because I was a lil kid I would just watch my favourites on repeat over and over and over again and the three that were on all the time were Last Crusade, Raiders Of The Lost Arc, and The Mummy (the one with my man Brendon Fraser). I do really agree with you on liking the darker and more horrific edge to not only the Indiana Jones movies but also just most movies in general and I have always been like that but even when I was really young and loved all the gore and weird freaky stuff in Raiders and Temple Of Doom, I always preferred Last Crusade. The characters were always my favourites out of the series and the action scenes were always my favourites out of the series. It definitely was not as dark as the first two (there certainly still is some rather extreme moments though like when the dude ages into a skeleton in like five seconds) but it didn’t matter at all to me because the action and story and characters all felt so much more engaging and more interesting than the other two movies. Fantastic video Cody as always. Definitely appreciate the love going to Temple Of Doom because even though that’s certainly not my favourite of the bunch, I really think that movie needs some more praise like even Steven Spielberg himself kinda shits on that movie and it deserves better.

I don’t think Elsa knew the goblet she chose was the wrong one. I don’t think it was on purpose. When Indy picked right one, the look on her face was, “are you serious? ThT can’t be it.” Everything else you say about her I agree with.

It’s interesting that even In this film, there are subtle references to the fact, that Indy is no longer as young as he was ( Harrison is 47 and silver haired here) he certainly looks a bit older then the young man in raiders. I like this film, but I think your review of it Cody is much cooler. 👏 👏

The Last Crusade is a good movie but is only my third favorite of the original Indiana Jones trilogy even though i was very fond of Sean Connery being in the movie and was very excited to see him as Henry Jones Sr in the third installment of the franchise plus it really made 1989 the best way to cap off the decade along with Weekend At Bernie’s, Ghostbusters 2, Lethal Weapon 2, and Batman. My favorite moment of the film is when Indie’s father finally refers to him as Indiana and tells him with an emotionally gripping look on his face to let the holy grail go. Such a great and classic moment which is understandably a fan favorite compared to most others in the other two films. TLC is now a constant reminder of the choice of influence and inspiration for Kevin Smith to have his only line in Dogma to be only two words at the end of the train scene where he says “No Ticket!”.

Always been my favorite in the series. To me it has the best opening, added more great music, had the best partner/sidekick with Sean Connery as his dad, went to some of the most gorgeous places in the series like Venice and Petra, best humor, and easily the best ending in the franchise. The holy night and booby traps at the end always give me goosebumps. Also this movie gives Indy the most characterization and I like the theme of greed throughout the whole movie. Raiders easily has the worst ending which makes the movie almost pointless and I like temple for the most part but it definitely feels too dark of a tone and at times feels straight up racist.

I disagree that it was more interesting I usually fast forward through several parts of temple of doom. It took the most chances with its dark theme but It was far less of a mystery than crusade was. Using that diary to get through the booby traps was so cool. Far less of that type of stuff in doom.

I remember watching the filming of the Nazi book burning scene, where Elsa says "all I have to do is scream" and Indy gets his father's diary signed....in LIVERPOOL! yes, it was filmed outside St Georges Hall, where scenes from The Batman were filmed recently. I watched from the steps of Lime Street train station just opposite. It was weird thinking that Harrison Ford/Indiana Jones and Steven Spielberg were literally right near where my mum did shopping on a Saturday! It was actually quite a spectacle. The lion statues had the swastika banners covering them, and a HUGE screen basically covered the adjacent museum and library with a large picture. The colonnade where Indy meets Elsa is on the main steps.

This is my absolute favorite of the series. I remember seeing it in the theater when it came out. As a kid, it was one of the coolest action films I'd ever seen in the theater. As an adult, I rewatched it before seeing the latest one and figured out why it's still my favorite. First off, I love the chemistry between Sean Connery and Harrison Ford. There's also some nice twists with whose loyal to whom. The humor in this movie is classic (we were joking about "Tickets please" while waiting to see Indy 5). I love the action and the introduction to different parts of Indiana's life. I think the other thing that makes this movie work is the score. Raiders of the Lost Ark set the template, but the enhanced version of it in Last Crusade is better and what I always think of when I think Indiana Jones. The one thing I will give Raiders over Last Crusade is that I think Beloc is the best villain of any of the movies.
@TheMrHavish
@TheMrHavish Жыл бұрын
Disagree with Last Crusade being an "overcorrection" or playing it safe. Indy's still dispatching Nazis like he did in Raiders, getting pissed off at Elsa for betraying him and the entire climax is about him trying to save his father's life. There's an emotional resonance to the film that none of the other sequels (including Dial) match up with. Plus, the chemistry between Ford and Connery gives it a heart that very few action-adventure films manage.

I agree. I grew up with both Raiders and Temple & by the time crusade came out I was 14 and I guess in a different place when it came to movies. I always enjoyed it but felt it missed that edge the first 2 had,it felt very safe and didnt have that real threat of Raiders and Temple,it was also not as violent. So it became my 3rd favourite of the original trilogy. That said as I've gotten older,I have loved the movie more and more especially after losing my dad. I now find so much more in this movie than i ever did,especially Indy and his fathers relationship. A great trilogy indeed.

Even having been introduced to this first - before Raiders of the Lost Ark! I enjoyed the layers in characterization! Felt the evilness of the female character was well conceived, written with some thought behind it 😉What you just described so well here - she was neither a compelling 'love interest' nor villain, who *needed saving?* That was great - a kind of 'lesson' Indy has to learn about *human motivation* and not just be academic and understand artifacts 😊

Your thoughts are almost exactly the same as mine. Growing up, I loved Raiders and TOD but when it got around to LC I was never enthusiastic about watching it again. This is complicated As a teenager, Temple of Doom was always my favourite because it was the darkest chapter of the original trilogy and Last Crusade was always my least favourite. However, as I’ve gotten older, Last Crusade has quietly made its way up the list and is now my personal favourite. The chemistry between Ford and Connery is brilliant, I thought this was easily the funniest of the original trilogy, and the character arc that Indy’s dad goes on throughout the movie where he starts to care more about his son than his life’s goal was really heartwarming and felt earned by the final frame. 100% agree they should’ve left it here

I grew up on the Last Crusade, I saw this with my Dad and we both enjoyed the hell out of this movie. I used to wonder also why was Temple of Doom vastly different from Crusade and Raiders of the Lost Ark (I didn’t see it until I was much older), then later I discovered that Temple of Doom is a prequel (timeline wise) to Raiders and Crusade is long after the events from Raiders so it made more sense to me. These are the only Indiana Jones films I’ve seen, Temple of Doom is childhood nostalgia for me, and when they play the movies on Paramount every damn weekend, they play these three movies only, like the fourth movie doesn’t exist.

Raiders feels in the style of a classic blockbuster while Last Crusade feels like the template for a modern blockbuster but done in the best possible way. Rewatching this you can see how this influential this movie has been on modern action blockbusters. The humor, the pacing, the way the edges are a bit more sanded off and the safeness from revisiting characters and beats from a previous film in a series. Thought that was really interesting but still a movie I love just not as much as Raiders though.

The man at the beginning is Abner Ravenwood, Marion's father. Well in the original script anyway.

I completely agree, I think that ToD just got seen as such a change of pace, it threw people way off from what they expected. I do love this third installment, mainly the chemistry between Ford & Connery. I still quote the old knight whenever my friends and family F up... you chose, poorly. Still love how that idiot just let her chose the cup, I would've made her drink from it first. Thanks again for an honest/real review!

It is the most overrated. I like it and it is the only Indy film of the original trilogy that I was old enough to see at the cinema when it came out...but, I still admit it's the most overrated. It is objectively probably a better film than TOD...but I still like TOD better. Likewise, I for sure do not understand anyone saying this is their FAVORITE of the series. Very odd to me. I hear people say it all the time too.

Raiders easily bests this one. Doom is way better too lol. The only cool thing about Crusade is Sean Connery as Indy's dad.

Everyone has different opinions. I think raiders and crusade are on paper the best but I find myself watching temple of doom and crystal skull the most because they’re so much fun and have way more comedy and over the top adventures that’s a roller coaster ride.

@@jaydoubleu3419Well there are horror elements to them and temple of doom is basically a horror film once they get to the temple. Lol

Giving The Dial of Destiny pretty much the same score as Guardians 3 is absolutely insane

I haven't seen gaurdians 3 but I found his dial of destiny review to be fair. He pointed out the films flaws and its positives and didn't let public opinion affect his review.

While I would rate Guardians 3 well above Dial of Destiny, I do understand how something like superhero or Marvel fatigue could drop even good superhero or Marvel movies a couple points.
