This was in 2 parts , but it was entirely too bright, you couldnts see the floor, i didnt realize that when i uploaded, so i redid it, and managed to get the whole game on one video using my PC. I lowered the brightness & contrast as far as i could and still keep a decent picture, its much better, i may rerecord this in the future, from scratch, but i may be obbsessing lol, .....become a patron and support the channel ! www.patreon.com... .i do this as a hobby ...........thanks for watching !!

In the quarter-finals, Milan had to play against Crispus Attucks (Indianapolis). Attucks was led by sophomore guard and future Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson, and had a 17-16 lead after one quarter before Milan jumped out to a seven-point halftime lead. Milan preserved it by playing cat-and-mouse (four corners) throughout the second half, as this was prior to the advent of the shot clock. Milan went on to defeat Crispus Attucks 65-52. Attucks and Oscar Robertson would go on to win the next two state titles in 1955 and 1956. A fascinating slice of history.

Never realized how closely the movie Hoosiers re-enacted the final shot. Right down to the very spot on the floor.

So much more strategy with no shot clock. I grew up in Indiana when there were still no divisions. It was a state-wide open tournament. I was a senior in 1983 when Connersville won the state championship. We were a county consolidated HS but with a population of about 20k. We played Indianapolis Cathedral and won when they took a last second shot and missed. The town went crazy. Twin brothers Mike and Chris Heineman went on to play at Wisconsin and Davidson, respectively. Good times.

I’ve watched this whole game a couple of times and what stands out to me is the pace in which the officials kept the ball in play . The ball would go out of bounds , they would make their call and within seconds the ball would be handed off for the inbounds play. None of the players bitched and whined about the call

Miracle of Milan, once in a lifetime opportunity. The basketball commission changed the rules so that the small schools could never compete in the same league as the big schools ever again. Guess they were embarrassed. Jimmy (Bobby Plump)said that if he had run for governor of Indiana , he had a good chance of winning. Hoosiers was a great movie despite all the personal conflict crap. It was a Christian team with a Christian coach and they all got along just fine. The last 18 seconds according to Bobby Plum 'Jimmy' of the movie were exact.

First time I’ve ever seen this . I’ve just finished watching the first half and it’s clear to me there are two major reasons why Milan one : 1) Milan’s toughness and being able to seamlessly work as a team and 2) omg the terrible shot selection alone is enough to make Muncie lose .

It’s crazy to me how far out some of these shots were before the 3 point line. I started watching basketball in the 80s (college mostly) and rarely could any player hit a shot from that distance as the 3 point line was in effect once in 1983 then brought back in 1987 and never left. Back then you were lucky if you had one 3 point shooter unlike today. So it’s interesting for me to see shots taken that far away before my time.

The passing drills Milan performed during the warmups remind me of the first time i saw DeMatha play. It seems coaches and teams don't work on passing any more.

When I saw that and watched these guys warm up - they look very athletic and I can see that not all players from the 50's and 60's had buzz cuts knee pads took set shots and couldn't dribble with their left. But I see guys that could play good basketball

Or defense, at any level. Kids would rather practice threes and dunks all day but never get in a defensive stance, learn to shuffle their feet with their hands out, and attack the dribble.

Definitely a different style of play back then, but these kids are extremely athletic. Looking at the layup footage several of the Mucie kids could easily dunk if it were part of the game back then. Very interesting footage and it brings the movie into reality. Thank you for uploading.

Great to see the actual game footage. Too much 'comment' in the usual clips, not enough 'analysis'. Knowing that one commentator said that Milan had been a speed team through the season brings the deliberate play of this game into relief. You can see Milan taking advantage of the 'soft' man-to-man defence of Muncie with the main player (Jimmy?) holding the ball then stepping quickly and withdrawing, testing the reactions of the defensive player. Then eventually making the move on the dribble, leaving the defensive player just a bit flat footed; 'bent him to your will'. Most striking was the fourth quarter after Muncie had regained the lead first time since the first quarter, did Milan become more aggressive toward the basket? No! They went into a stall. Held the ball for several minutes. Taking away the momentum that Muncie had built up. Testing Muncie's reaction. With a two point lead, would Muncie play back and wait it out? Psychological warfare. Finally, suddenly Milan went for it and tied the score. Muncie then proceeded to throw the game away, seeming to have lost the psychological test.

Very fast action, Refs didn’t mess around with calls or out of bounds plays. Also, seemed like jump ball calls very very fast, like when 2 players touch the ball at the same time it seemed like an instant jump ball. Seemed also that Muncie out rebounded Milan by a lot. 29:32 broke his ankles…

What's with these kids jacking up long range shots? I played high school basketball in the 80's and my coach would bench anyone taking those low percentage shots. I would think these kids would have more discipline.

The movie copied the last twenty seconds almost completely with the time out and everything. And the pacing. That agonizingly slow. start..GO SOMETHING....while he slowly dribbles by half court. Smart by them, no need to change that at all.
