Hi indie people! I am an autistic person who in today's video is taking an online autism quiz. In this collaboration video with Yo Samdy Sam, we show how confusing this online autism test can be and also showing that you can be autistic/have an autism diagnosis. But the signs aren't obvious as people may believe. We are both taking the AQ test or Autism Spectrum Quotient test. (Link below).

I think it lacks an answer between "slightly agree" and "slightly disagree" because at some questions I really could not say if it is more to a "yes" or more to a "no", the difference was in nuances...
@ganondorfchampin
@ganondorfchampin 2 жыл бұрын
It's even worse than that - the slightly doesn't actually impact the result, it just has two superfluous versions of each question.
@kiervol
@kiervol 4 жыл бұрын
There is so much nuance here. Like, when I was younger and didn't know how to say no to social situations, I used to love loud bars because I couldn't hear anything so nobody expected conversation out of me. Now they feel too loud for me, but that has been part of my own growth, recognizing I can say no. So I would have answered these questions differently 20 years ago, 10 years ago, and now.

Yeah I think tests like this are very misleading but also it depends on how you feel how you answer so the results will always change. But if it helps someone find themselves then I think it's ok.

And the way in which some of them are very dated, in any language. Why would anyone Andy’s age remember anyone’s phone number other than their own and maybe a couple of emergency numbers in case you loose your phone? As opposed to when some of us were young decades ago and remembering phone numbers was a necessity of daily life hard to imagine now = the context that this test came out of. Same with birthdays.

If 2 different people are trying to talk to me at the same time, I have to tell them to be quiet and ask the first person to continue speaking then the second person. But if it is a conversation with me and 2 others and one person has their turn, then the second person has their turn, I find it easier. I hope that made sense.

@JustAnotherBuckyLover

The reason is that it scores you the same regardless of if you choose slightly or definitely. So if you say you slightly agree that you don't enjoy small talk, it gives you the same score (1 point) as if you said you definitely agree. So even if your answers are all "middling" you can still get a really high score. And even though it was developed by someone who is well-known in the autism field, it's a very over-simplified initial screening test based purely on boys (with stereotypically autistic behaviours) that was developed nearly twenty years ago now. The UK still uses a shortened version of this (the AQ-10 - which asks the ten questions most "reliably" diagnostic of autistic tendencies) for GPs to decide if they should refer for diagnosis to actual psychologists, and psychologists (or others working with them) often use the full AQ test as part of the initial assessment process (or at least they are in my part of the UK at least).

I had a go and I surprisingly scored 27 (Asperger Syndrome), I thought I would be higher since I don't think I was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome (I think I am on the high functioning side of the spectrum). The problem with a quiz like this is it is entirely based on your own personal beliefs and that can cause someone to greatly under estimate or over estimate there answers. The only real way to determine what side of the spectrum you are is information provided to you by a professional.

Sometimes it is hard to tell what others think of me so it is very hard for me to answer a question on what others think of me, they may be presenting themselves to me on the outside as "gees he is a really nice person" but inside there probably thinking "Jesus Christ what a wanker".

Ty Andy, had me a bit of a 🤭 chuckle. But what made me frogawkard, is the fact that neuro typical clinical observation, provides me with strong 💪 independence as a NEURO DIVERGENT!!! My AQ was 43 curious 🤨 ur 39, level 1 ASD high functioning Aspergers. I believe that I may also, with my psychologist concurring . Just waiting for assessment day. More I wain the more I research 🧐 that is one of my key internet’s. With coin collection, 20 plus yrs devoted to meditation 🧘‍♀️. Came in hand when they locked me up. Now, I know my true self! If you are interested how the scoring system works: Read on. There are 50 questions, and a max score of 50 using integer values, so each question can only score either 0 or 1. There is no difference between definitely/slightly. Choose either definitely agree or definitely disagree. Some of the answers have a reverse bias to try and make it more difficult to game the questions. I have a text file on pastebin.com/vzaLfmHF with a full explanation of the method used to obtain the score for each of the questions and my interpretation of what was really being asked for each one in order to obtain a 1. I usually score 35 when I have done this test before, and now I have analysed it and know how to score 50/50, I tried to be as honest as possible, but selected only the extremes, and still got a score of 35

When taking this, I had to think over some of the questions to decide if I answered that way because that's how I am or if I became that way due to trauma? As older adults we have experienced so much, so it's hard to say with some of these.

OMG I did have to take this test just to see what it would produce. I watched Yo Samdy Sam's video also and posted my comments on there as well. I think I have taken these questions before back in the 1980's and they diagnosed me with Cognitive Learning Disability but back then a lot of things were diagnosed under that category. Here are the results I got from it: Your score was 31 out of a possible 50. Scores in the 26-32 range indicate some Autistic traits (Asperger's Syndrome).

I actually really like the way you read out things, I know it might not be intentional, but you sound very sing-songy and eccentric, kind of like a Monty Python skit or something lol. Also, I tend to score quite high on these bullshit "tests" and I am diagnosed as autistic, but many of the questions just apply to introverts and probably will convince so many people that they are autistic when they aren't. It's like those online IQ tests that tell you you are a genius! And nobody does online self-testing/online self-diagnosis for any other condition, you wouldn't take a quiz online for heart disease or bipolar disorder, so why would you for autism? I'm sick of people being like "Autism is cool and trendy, I don't like loud noises so I guess I'm autistic now!"
@IndieAndy

Aww thank you, that's weirdly a really cool thing to say. Completely unintentional as well 😂 Yeah I agree it is very stupid but also as well this test I did has ALOT of negative stereotypes about autism. I prefer doing things on my own even when I am in a small group of no more than 4 other people. I am very poor at imagining what thinks would look like, as I am unable to 'create a picture in my mind', no matter how hard I try. I have very sensitive hearing and can annoyed by the slightest noise, i,e, my upstairs neighbour talking on the phone, the sound of the fridge humming. Number 6 is very vague as I don't go out a lot due to severe sensory issues, chronic fatigue and pain, the only time I would notice patterns in car number plates would be if I am in as a passenger and when I am in a relaxed state. I do notice patterns in dates and times. I am fascinated by dates when they are synchronised, i.e. 11/11/11 etc. Since I do not talk much to people, my sister or other people say that I am not listening, or that they infer that my tone is wrong or that I am talking about a different subject and that I am thoughtless rather than say I am impolite, or they say nothing but they talk angrily or in an impatient tone. I am unable to track of several conversations at a time as it confuses me. When I am talking to a person and there is background noise, I am unable to filter the background noise. Background noise makes it very difficult to listen to the person that I am talking to. I find social situations very difficult as I am unable to know how to start a conversation and how to introduce myself even though I am 56 and female and accord to autism experts I should find social situations easier than autistic males. I notice details that other people don't, i.e. background noises, slightly change in temperature and humidity, this is a very vague question. Instead of going to a party I would rather go to a museum rather than a library (if there is one locally) and this question is dated as libraries are not quiet any more as they are used as community hubs in Thurrock. I struggle in making up stories and as a child and still as adult, I would rather read an encyclopaedia than a novel. I cannot understand question number 15. I also get upset if I cannot pursue my interests of meteorology, as I listen to meteorology/weather patterns videos and go on the website and put my findings on as well as watch DC and Marvel superhero genre TV and films. I do not enjoy social chit chat.

I got 39 too lol Then I was mad at the test and made my husband do it because I was sure everyone would get a high score from these seemingly normal things. And then he scored as neurotypical person. And I'm like "????". I also took another online test which seems more detailed (aspie quiz) and also got some high score for Asperger's behavior in social situations, talent and perception, but not on relationships and comunication. I found out about this today and I'm like very incredulous... I don't know what to think of this... And it all started with KZbin recommending me a video with the title: "are you autistic?" Lol

I just took Samdy’s test but didn’t know how to score it. It’s not a simple yes or no to a lot of the questions. I think I may have scored quite high. Still not sure 🤔 Took the test while you did and scored around the same as you. Maybe I should see someone? I’ve suspected over the last few years that something was up but as I have epilepsy the Doc told me that depression kinda goes hand in hand with it. I think he’s lazy. 🤕

Hi Mags! The test we both did were the exact same test. Basically the idea of the video who to see how we'd score ourselves and the way we took the questions. But anyways with tests like these, I think they are good to possibly indicate with their autistic traits there. Though to see if you could be, I always say to seek medical advice from a professional and look into the subject abit more for yourself by researching 👍 Hmm the epilepsy thing is abit mad to me as you can have that and be autistic at the time 🤔 but to be fair, he might not have thought about autism as a possibility? I don't know but I'd seek medical advice if it's something you were also thinking yourself. Hope you are well.
