Good point about keeping the body moving, need to remember that. I keep trying not to get bonked in the head or clotheslined by the hoop! Maybe if I just keep thinking, "flow.. flow.. flow.. "

The most helpful advice I’ve seen for diameter is this: For learning waist hooping, waist size * 1.2. It’s really about the space between your waist and the hoop dictating the speed (plus the hoop weight). Then for off-body to measure from the floor to around where the top of your leg bends at the hip, plus possibly an inch or two. That way there’s room for wedgies and such.
@IndigoFlowArts5 жыл бұрын
Shawn Fumo thank you for this!!
@Daniea33 жыл бұрын
"Waist size * 1.2." What does this mean?
@ShawnFumo3 жыл бұрын
@@Daniea3 say the circumference of your waist with a tape measure is 30". Then you'd want a hoop with a circumference of 36" at least.

Hi Kimberly! 44in is outside of my personal range of sizes I usually go for, but everyone’s journey is different so it could work well for you depending on your body’s measurements! I hope you can start finding your flow with it :)

Absolutely do not go play with kiddie hoops. That’s just failure in a box. If you’re only going to buy one hoop, get a 3/4 inch polyethylene hoop that comes to just under your breasts when standing. You may think it’s too big, but as a beginner or someone who hasn’t hooped since they were eight, it will give you immediate success. Then, you can try the same hoop, only this time have it come to just above your bellybutton. From there, you can begin trying the lighter weight polypro hoops which are lighter and move much faster.
@IndigoFlowArts4 жыл бұрын
Linda Beebe it could work for some people! Especially people who tend to like the polypro-style hoops. Everyone’s preferences are different ☺️
@anjajansen35604 жыл бұрын
Kiddie hoops do work great for hand-hooping tricks & isolations, though :) I got two and I use them a lot (next to my normal hoop)! The fact that they are light and smaller is really handy for many tricks :)

@IndigoFlowArts3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I have personally never bought a weighted hoop. I would recommend going with something that has lots of reviews!
@astallasalex4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so0o0o much for making this vid!! I feel that all beginner hoopers should watch this. I've been hooping for a bit, but I really wish I knew some of these details before I started 😩 firstly, I bought it online so BIG no-no considering my first hoop's tubing was WAY too thick + heavy at first although it was the right diameter (I THINK it was polyethylene??). Considering my wrists were so weak back then and would get hurt with ANY off-body hooping, it obv wasn't a good fit, so I needed to buy a large-diameter polypro (large diameter for more weight thus slower spin speed) RIGHT after buying the heavier hoop I mentioned (and you know hoops can be spensive esp online so YIKES @ buying 2 back to back.... 💔😭). But thankfully now, I've been able to work my way up to a thicker hoop with a smaller diameter. I didn't wanna change the way it "feels" too much re: the spin speed since I'm still a beginner I need it to be on the slower side, how much it stressed out my wrists, etc etc. This was a LONG comment 😅 lol but thanks so much for the tips!!! 🌞🙏🏻 really appreciate you and the vid! 🌻

Measure the distance from the floor to your lower belly button, or slightly below. If you’re getting a hoop larger than 30” go for HDPE as it will be more durable!

How heavy should a hoop be for beginners? I found one at 300 grams but I feel its too light
@IndigoFlowArts3 жыл бұрын
It depends how you’ll be practicing with the hoop. Weighted hoops are generally considered better for fitness, and they can be a bit riskier if you’re doing certain tricks like coinspins. Those are usually safer and easier with lighter hoops. Consider what you want to learn and how that might be affected by the hoop weight that you choose!

I make my own out of a roll of 3\4" PE tubing and it works, but there's a few parts that are tricky like getting it perfectly level. If you don't have access to a big hot level area like a driveway, you'll want a heat gun. I also had a lot of trial and error about finding hoop tapes that I like and had good grip. When I finally figure out how to make a hoop propeely balanced in an apartment I'll post a tutorial. In the meanwhile my hoops go all over the place because they're a little wobbly haha.
