So I'm actually watching your videos because my professor asked us to review the vlog scene, and how people create global media abroad. It's great to see a friendly, positive outlook even while traveling to what's normally considered wild, strange places. It's great to see you interact with these wonderful people so interested and respectful, because it's what I'd hope a good world traveler would act like. It's good material for the essay, too, but first a really nice experience. Awesome awesome job

To the people who don’t understand the security situation in Somaliland and why armed guards and checkpoints are necessary even though it is a safe country, let me explain. In 2004 there were two incidents where foreigners were killed by armed Islamic militants that were called Al Ittihad based in southern Somalia. In the first a Kenyan aid worker was gunned down somewhere in the countryside and in the other case, a British couple who ran a school in Somaliland were gunned down in their home by the same group. The murderers were caught and executed. Since then it has become law that a foreigners who wish to travel outside the major towns hire a guard from the Special Protection Unit of the Somaliland Police. This is necessary to protect the traveller and to protect the reputation of Somaliland as a country seeking international recognition as a country independent of the failed nation of Somalia. There has not been a single such incident since the last in 2004. Checkpoints have always existed since 1991for general checks in the absence of technology such as checking for illegal immigrants from Ethiopia which is a common problem, licence and documentation checks, etc. People have been calling for the law requiring the armed guard to be abolished as the law in itself may make visitors question the safety of the country. The government and parliament and so far refused to do so. In general, Somaliland is very safe. Where else in the world would you find a bureau de change on the side street and women selling gold outdoor in the market in the open.

I can assure you Somaliland is safer than New York or London not no gangs or terrorist exist or pirates. Mainly due to local population being vigilante against such things and sophisticated intelligence service that has eyes and ears everywhere to protect security specially of tourist The armed guard is for when traveling out of town only and is an outdated law from 15 years ago when a foreign teacher was killed by a terrorist from the south. Ever since not a single terror attack happen! How many times Paris got attacked or London? I would advise against traveling to the Southern Somalia Border though even though things improved there its not yet fully secure.

A few American tourists were gunned down in the US last year and it did t become an international story, warning people of the US. 2 tourists die in somaliland and the way the mainstream media reported on it, was out of proportion to what really happened.

Man, you're killing it with these series. You got the balls of titanium. Also the guy with the "green card" is lying to you. If he actually had a green card then he's a permanent resident and the government can't deport him just for fun, he had to commit a few criminal offences to be kicked out. I know that because I went through that program.

@Flying_Lexus2 жыл бұрын
@@theantianti7 The expiration dates are only for the physical document itself, not for your status as a permanent resident. When you green card expires, you just go to the immigration office and they put a sticker on it that extends the validity of the document. I travelled to Canada and back with an expired green card that had an extension sticker on it. The border patrol had absolutely no problems with it. Again, when your green card expires, your permanent resident status does not, I know that for a fact.

Well yeah, he was a black boy in an immigrant family in Columbus, a metropolis. American culture is INCREDIBLY violent, or tolerant of violence, especially among youth. He never said he did nothing wrong, what I think he meant is that he felt led culturally astray in the US and feels more centered in his homeland. Being from where he's from, it could have been pretty much even a sliver of toe over the line that would get him deported. Things that even a citizen of color would get a slap on the wrist for, much less a white citizen.
