Indonesia drops plan to change election law as police fire tear gas, water cannon at protesters

Indonesia's deputy speaker has confirmed that parliament will not ratify changes to an election law that sparked protests in Jakarta and multiple cities across the country. Lawmakers need more time to deliberate. Earlier, security forces fired tear gas and water cannon at demonstrators angered by the changes that they said would have strengthened the influence of outgoing President Joko Widodo.
