Every bit of IndyCar not being at TMS is driven by NASCAR / SMI's hostile stance towards competing series. Seriously, stop dragging the series through the mud over something clearly outside their control, and yes, not spending a shit load of money or accepting terrible schedule dates are viable reasons to not go to TMS... ffs
@danielhenderson83163 ай бұрын
Because IndyCar is not in the business of paying tracks to race. Successful race organizations have track owners that want to pay THEM to race at their facility. Ovals in IndyCar outside of the Indy 500 exist only because of sponsors like Big Machine, HyVee, and Bommarito paying tracks to host a race.
@chrisguardiano61433 ай бұрын
I am very surprised that Indycar is actually pursuing a street race in the Dallas-Fort Worth area considering the fact that F1 tried a street race there 40 years ago that was absolutely terrible both in terms of the racing & the fan experience so much so that F1 scrapped it after one year. That race is also infamous for Nigel Mansell collapsing from heat exhaustion as he was trying to push his car across the finish line.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but we cancelled our trip to Nashville as soon as the oval was announced and still stand by this decision. The amount of on track activity that a street course / road course provides increases the value by quite a bit. Not to mention, a city street race is an easier sell to my casual fan friends. Nashville actually has great spectator views with the bridge leading up to a great passing zone. (NBC missing most of those passes) With that said, I’ve never been inclined to go to TMS, although, a street circuit interests me, also, we’ve tried that for over two decades and the crowd only went down. It’s time to try something new. This is coming from someone who also attends Milwaukee and Indy (ovals) now on an annual basis. Yes the racing at TMS was great, but it was an event that was never going to grow.

Nashville was a great event with a poorly thought out track... I attended the inaugural event and my son and I had a really great time. The turn at the bottom of the bridge coming back to the stadium side was abysmal and crash after crash, yellow after yellow. Nobody in all of Indycar thought that needed fixed... Peacock turned into 50% commercials. Fox remains to be seen.

There’s reasons why street races like St. Petersburg, Long Beach, and Toronto have been successful street tracks and other random copycat street tracks have failed or don’t last long. Granted, people stopped showing up for IndyCar races at Texas, but that’s because IndyCar doesn’t know how to advertise races outside the 500 (and Nashville Oval, I’ll give credit where it’s due). Also why would IndyCar race at a dumb street race at Dallas since they’ve been to Houston in late 90s and early 2000s and 2013-2014, and that’s been non-existent? Heck even IndyCar raced at Texas and Houston before! Granted, the current-Texas layout is garbage, but somehow, IndyCar figured it out! Dallas Indycar race in the town I call it. Try it and have a race. But, Indyvar should race at the Texas oval raced at the track for 26 seasons. Because it is a Good track for Indycars and provide Good, Great racing and Track owners, promoters, promote a Good promotion with a company NTT or other and get the fans out there. I went last year and was a Good, Great race and races for the 26 seasons, years. It is very important after the Indy 500 to race there. Sargeant was a darn good driver in the junior formulae. Both Piastri and Albon have said that he was quick. That’s why they were confused seeing him struggle so much in F1. He lost his footing early on and could never find it again. Colapinto’s incredibly talented and I’ve been impressed with his performances so far. But I don’t think it’s completely fair to compare him to Sargeant. Sargeant was driving for his job every race weekend, with the media and fans hounding him about getting replaced. It’s no secret his confidence was gone by Australia. Colapinto doesn’t have to deal with that pressure. He might be driving for a future F1 seat, but there’s no real fear of failure. It’s like when De Vries stepped in for Albon in 2022 or when Lawson stepped in for Ricciardo in 2023. Or even Russell for Hamilton in 2020. Don’t get me wrong, I do think Colapinto’s a future F1 star. But he also isn’t feeling the full pressure of F1 right now.
