This was an amazingly unbiased and fair view of both disciplines. I've always said arguing between racing disciplines is like saying a genre of music is better than another. Both have their purpose, difficulties, nuances, and at the end of the day it's all a matter of taste. Am I the only one who likes F1, Indy, NASCAR, and V8 Supercars? I just love racing.

First off any IndyCar fan that says ovals are boring lost their credibility. IndyCar (Modern day) raced all or mostly ovals for the longest time. In my opinion NASCAR is harder. Heavy cars, harder steering. But IndyCar is a lot more dangerous. I'll get straight to the point. NASCAR and IndyCar are both great sports and fans of each should stop bashing the other with mindless remarks and biases.

Should've talked to Smoke. IRL champion and NASCAR champion. So with a driver who has tremendous success in both styles (and is also a good road course racer with both nascar IRL and grand am experience) you'd probably get a better idea of how different they are. Sure JPM is a great driver but he's done virtually nothing on an oval in NASCAR and so you couldn't value his NASCAR advice nearly as much as you would value Tony's advice and also vice versa JPM's road course advice is probably worth more than Tony's.

I wouldn't say similar G Forces. The F1 car uses down-force to maintain grip on the track which means (believe it or not) at high speeds an F1 car can travel in a straight line on a upside down track. Plus the carbon brakes on the F1 can stop the car from going over 200mph to 0 with a matter of seconds which generates about 5 to 6 G's on the body but most importantly the neck. That's like a 400 pound guy standing on your neck.

+2016 NASCAR Crashes & Finish's I think the talent level is much higher in Nascar than people give credit for. Juan Pablo was insignificant in Nascar but dominated both F1 and Indycar. There is so much more money in Nascar than Indy, of course talent will follow the money.

I'd agree about Montoya..I watch both series, but I will say this. I really think the drivers are better in indycar overall because they take penalties for aggressive driving. That's huge. No blocking, no rubbin is racing crap. And I love the push to pass system in indycar and f1 that I think nascar should have. It makes the racing more strategic; do I use push to pass now or do I wait till the last 20 laps. However I HATE indycar races ending under caution, I mean after going to a race, spending hard earned money and seeing them go at it..come on!! Also the double file restarts in nascar are great. As I said I love both series.

It is my firm belief that the 2017 Indy 500 set a new standard for excellence in motorsports and as the standard bearer with F1 second and NASCAR a distant 3. Tacuma Sato and Helio Castroneves put on a clinic in the last dozen laps. Fernando Alonso was strong and Alexander Rossi proved his 2016 Indy 500 win was justified. Indy Car is hot... And its safety is awesome as shown with Dixon walking away from crash that a few years ago might have proven deadly. This assessment is not a knock on Formula 1 nor on NASCAR.

I agree, I really think IndyCar will regain a lot of glory lost when CART and IRL formed two separate series. I think F1 fatigue is setting in too, and people want to see 'racing' and not mechanically perfect robot drivers following team orders.

LOL Paul Tracy saying "so when a NASCAR driver goes to a different race car type it takes them longer to get used to it" uuhhhhmmm Tony Stewart won an Indy race or 2 and was very competitive in every race he ran in Indy... don't recall ANY Indy drivers who have ever won a NASCAR race or even done very well except Mario Andretti who raced 6 Nascar races and got 1 win at Daytona back in like 1966 or something. Montoya got 1 top 5 finish I think in 6 years of trying and set some wreckage records too lol... so who again takes longer to learn what?? Indy KARTS are go KARTS on steroids, NASCAR's are CARS. I drove go karts from 9 years old to 15 before I was able to move UP to a car. Any fool who thinks driving an Indy car is tougher than driving a NASCAR is delusional. And don't even get me started on who has the better pure drivers... I'll just end that right now and say IROC. Last non- NASCAR winner was in 1979, nuff said.

Ummm...Tracy said Johnson and Stewart are great drivers. So, he exclude Stewart from the debate. and yes, Montoya won in Nascar. Ok, a road course but still... You know, my favorite type of race is Nascar. Definitiely, But with the time, I watch a bit more Formula 1 racing. I'm curious about DTM racing in Europe and V8 Supercar in Australia.. A few years ago, I was bragging that Nascar was the best of the best. Now I respect all race car drivers. I think this video wasn't there to say Indy car drivers are better than Nascar drivers. You have to admit there's not a lot of Nascar drivers who quit (or where fired) to go in open wheel. So it's impossible to say that they would be good at it. I remember a few years ago, some Nascar drivers were doing 2-3 laps (Start and park) instead to try elsewhere. Anyway. Just my point of view. Pat Carpentier would have had be a good Nascar driver but in Nationwide. I'm just sorry for him, but it's life. He is a tactical, intelligent pilot and learn the curve pretty fast. But it's another story.. See you guys...

Chevy sucks Why the 787b in particular? It was a mid-pack car at best that only won ONE race because all of the faster cars broke down. In fact, it was 4 laps down from the leading Mercedes before it had an engine failure. Besides, plenty of worse drivers than Stewart have been in endurance races.
@Dgannt11 жыл бұрын
No argue that you have to be talented to handle a Nascar. But just picture this: A F1 driver going into corners at 4 G or have to endure 5 G at breaking and this happens hundred times in a race. Imagine how fit you have to be to endure those G-loads. When an F1 car at those speeds and G-forces gets in trouble the drivers have to react in milli seconds to recover. A Nascar driver has 10 times more time to recover in comparison. F1 cars are fighter jets compared to Nascars being commercial jets.

I was thinking the same thing!! F1 V8s and V10s were 17,000 to 20,000 rpms. Old Indy/CART (ChampCar) when they had around 900 hp, some could turn up to 16,000 rpms. Today IndyCars and F1 (w/the V6s) are 12,000 rpms. Try and run a NASCAR at 12,000 and the engine mechanics would be looking to kick your ass for blowing up the motor.

Do F1 vs Indy.
@preston1210687 жыл бұрын
Just my two pennies. The cars are very different. Indy and F1 cars are built for flat out hold it to the floor pretty much the entire race. They are a finesse car that takes more grace in driving than skill. Nascar's are built like a bull. They are heavy, huge power, small tires with a more real car handling feel. I feel like any driver who can be consistent in a Nascar posses more skill in driving than pretty much any other form of auto racing. Not to say each class of racing doesn't require skill, I just feel like to be able to handle a car like a Nascar demands it whereas cars like Indy and F1 that are easier to drive can be finessed more to overcome less skill. I think if you watch a few video's of people like Tony Stewart, Gordon who both have driven F1/Indy and see they do fairly well outside their comfort zone in cars they typically do not drive vs drivers like Montoya, Patrick etc who have never really done much in a Nascar even after driving full time for years. This just shows me the line between driving skills and finessing a car.

What? First, it was less wet when Lewis went and Tony went faster in the F1 car than Hamilton if I'm not mistaken. Reaction key does't make you a better driver. Fighter pilots, tennis players, and even some video game players have amazing reaction skills. So that is an invalid claim. I believe F1 drivers are more technically gifted in racing (finesse, road course, etc.). However, just in all out skill, i think nascar drivers are the best (car control, craziness, speed).

Why didn't you get somebody who was ACTUALLY GOOD at both like Tony Stewart, who's won in NASCAR and in an IndyCar

I like the comparisons. Really wish it was in the days of the nice IndyCars instead of today's crapwagons.
