I wouldn’t remove that tail panel until after the trunk floor is in
@indyme22 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the trunk floor goes under the tail panel. The tail panel support is loose. I can slide it back and forth. Will show it on the next video. Going to support it if I have enough room to slide in the panel. Thanks.
@todddenio32002 жыл бұрын
@@indyme2 I should have spoken more clearly. By “IN” I was meaning IN POSSESSION. I have changed tri-five trunk floors as well as complete floor pans. The reason I was saying to wait is that while it may not seem like much support even that rotted tail panel is giving some support to the quarter panels and helping keep them aligned and making other tasks easier. I had a panel sag and kink from lack of support for a few days. Did not make me or the cars owner very happy and it caused more work
@indyme22 жыл бұрын
@@todddenio3200 The full floor and rockers are intact. I agree with you. The more support the better. Any suggestions on how to get the trunk pan in? Looks like I may have to cut it and reweld it to make it go in. I made a full size cardboard template the same size as the trunk floor. It's kind of like trying to fit a square into a round hole. All advise is appreciated, Todd. Thanks.
@todddenio32002 жыл бұрын
@@indyme2 if you can, remove all of the body bolts and lift the rear of the body enough to slide it in from the rear under the tail panel. You should weld in an additional brace about 6” above the tail panel for additional support and with that done the body can be lifted at the rear from an engine hoist put in from the side and just tipped on its nose a little bit if the front clip is removed. Then lower the body down around it provided the tail panel is trimmed of the old trunk floor. This way the tail panel is still in place and can be used to help align the replacement panel to where it should be from all angles.That’s the best way I have found.

@@todddenio3200 Awesome, Todd! I'm feeling dumb right now for not thinking about that. Have seen a lot of videos lately sliding floors under and dropping the body on top. I really appreciate the information and will give you a shout out in the next video. Chime in with any advise you have to offer. We appreciate all the input. Thanks again!

Your making good progress on the 57 Chevy! I didn't realize on the first few videos thats Belair with all the stainless steel trim! I noticed the little air shock fitting in the corner of the trunk. That's the number 1 reason them shock tower mounts get cracked and broken. Everyone wanted to Jack them up in the back and that put all the weight on the trunk floor. Keep working at it and Tell Vern come on over and help. Lol Have a good one Buddy 👍

I agree with you on computers they can be a royal pain. My desktop started acting up just before Christmas and Windows had been wanting me to upgrade to Windows 11 from 10 so I let them do it while in the shop. I didn't like 10 and 11 shows no improvement. I also agree with you about the panel cutter I have used mine many times. Glad to see the 57 coming along even though it is giving you a few surprises. Splice is the video editing program I use. It’s free and for go pros but works with apple stuff. That panel cutter works good. What a waste of a good floor. Queen should have the duster would throw people off if she pulls up next to them and dusts them.

I used those panel cutters for years. One trick I found to make it cut faster is to back off the pushing it so hard which allows the hammer to work better. Try it, it's a fine art to learn but worth it.
