Thanks for the video...I made one and worked great with a couple of changes (the vertical is now 16", added a couple of elbows on the top, and used 3" instead of the 2" for the width) so that it would fit my electric guitar. Thanks again and keep up the great videos.

i recently did a similar design but i added 2 elbows on both sides of the T joint on top just in case it slides sideways and falls off. I've seen many diy stands without top support and it gives me anxiety
@AmazonAaron84Ай бұрын
Excellent design! Tried this myself and messed up the angle of the upright, so I had to cut it to put in a 46° elbow to get the lean corrected. Only improvement I'd recommend is to put the upright in when gluing the middle triplet of T elbows, so you can lock in the right angle

Thanks for the video, awesome job. Just so you know they make a blue PVC pipe glue that holds really strong (like never coming off) and no need for mixing it.

Couple of things: Number one, you should have not used the epoxy, common PVC cement, clear, gray or white will suffice and is cheaper, prime the joints with acetone or even a little rubbing alcohol to clean the joints for gluing. Next, unless you find some adequate padding, you're going to get some serious scratches on your instruments. I suggest some of the insulation used for cold weather applications with PVC pipe, it just slips over during assembly or can be slit and then taped or glued to hold it in place in case you haven't thought that far ahead. In the end, unless you have the material and glue on hand left over from your irrigation system build, you can buy a commercial folding stand that will fit in your guitar case for about the same price that you would pay for the components. 2X4 scraps left over from a build and a small amount of glue and a few drywall screws will also work. It all depends on what you have on hand whether or not it is cheaper to build a stand, that folding stand that fits in the guitar case looks real good at about $25, I can't remember the name of the stand, but it is offered by the Blue Chip Pick Company on their website, presumably it is available elsewhere. Check out the Blue Chip site, their picks are equal to Tortoise in every way, and are more consistent, great product, and the stand is a great one as well, imagine a good stand that will fold up and fit under the headstock or in your string/tuner/pick storage container of your case. Still you have a good idea for those who have PVC material on hand and need a stand right away, for me, I already have a stand, and have ordered another, one of the folding ones from Blue Chip.

I don't see why it wouldn't. You might have to make the front of the base more narrow if the guitar isn't as wide.

To all the verbally abusive negative commenters I strongly recommend you ask your doctor to increase your medications because they're are obviously NOT working. This is a simple and very inexpensive project that can easily be modified to accommodate more guitars. Also let it be known that many inexpensive commercial stands are junk - they are not stable and the guitar can and does fall out of the stand far too easily. Also the rubber protection deteriorates rapidly and the metal parts can and do scrape the finish on your guitar whereas the PVC is plastic and does NOT. However I would not recommend paint on any surface of the PVC stand that would contact the finish of you guitar unless you chose to cover this surface with insulation foam or rubber. After a guitar is verified to fit securely in the stand, I would recommend that all joints be epoxied and made solid. As an added security feature I would add a strong elastic or strap to lock the guitar neck in the upper part of this stand. I have seen guitars go flying after the stand was accidently knocked. Thanks Rick for taking the time to put together this interesting option to make guitar stands.

It's a 0.5" PVC pipe, not 1.5". It took me a couple times going through the video to get that too. He could have phrased it better. :D For added durability, buy the 0.5" Schedule 40 pvc pipe, that's what I did. This type is much tougher.

You obviously can if you want. I found the friction fit to be strong enough for this purpose. It also will allow me to break it apart for easy transportation if needed. PVC cement would obviously make it stronger and less likely to move.

Why not just buy a stand? LOL, Because some people like making things, thats why. I never buy something I can make. I made my stand out of black iron pipe, but its different than this one. Plus I made them about 10 years ago. It's heavy, very solid, looks awesome, and its a LOT better than any stand you can buy, period. Since I've made mine, I've made 16 more for friends that liked it and wanted one or a few.
