I started working on a drawing on Android tutorial and I needed to figure out what program I wanted to spend a few weeks drawing in. The answer wasn't easy but I settled on Infinite Painter. Here are the reasons why and why I think it's currently Android's best drawing app.

You could not be more right about Painter. I have abandoned Sketchbook after trying it and your recommendations are spot on. I think one of the reasons it's not as obvious how great Painter is lies in it's greatest strength - everything is tucked away until you need to use it. That said, I have two items on my wish list: PSD support and the Copic palette. Thanks SO much for changing how I make art on my tablet.

@Supain
@Supain 7 жыл бұрын
@Hossam Gamal I had both, and definitely I prefer the Surface Pro/Book. The pencil is cool but I like having a cursor when using it as a "mouse". I don't like the fact it doesn't have any friction to the screen (just like Brad said in his comparison SP4 vs iPad Pro) I hated the restrictions the iPad had : when I began a drawing on the iPad, I could continue it on the Surface but not the other way around ! On Sketchbook or Medibang, same problem. The iPad version where also less customizable, in terms of canvas, etc. The file system is awfull, and when you want to pass from app to app you can't keep the same file, each app has it own version of the file, it can be confusing. On Windows or even Android no problem of that sort. Unless you are sure not having the need of using multiple apps or devices, the iPad is quite frustrating imo. At last I sold my iPad Pro 9.7 and kept my Surface Pro 4 that I upgraded to a Book recently and I'm waiting for the new pen (not available here), and I got an android tablet for small format (Asus Zenpad) that is not perfect (low battery life of the pen, not much friction when drawing) but as good counterparts (good pressure sensitivity, great palm rejection and good format (8 inch 4/3 like iPad mini) Don't forget it is just my opinion, maybe you won't agree but at least you have another opinion. :) Have fun with whatever you choose ! PS: Sorry for my english, I'm french, I hope you understood what I said ^^ Hope it will help you too.

Medibang has been my go to drawing app for about a year now on both my iPhone and android tablet because of the many features it has (been kinda calling it the tiny photoshop of mobile) and the fact I can work on the same drawing on multiple devices. Once you get the hang of the interface, it's really smooth sailing from there.

Personally my favorite app is Ibis paint x because the interface is simple and clean. I work primarily on my phone so this is VERY important to me because it maximizes drawing space. The app contains many tools that you can simply watch a video to unlock every 18 hours. (you also have the option to buy if you'd prefer ) considering I'm a teen with a non exsistent income this is a awsome option! Canvas size determines the amount of layers you get. I actually used it to create the "avatar" to the left here.😊

I love Artflow so much because of the 2.0 update. I am in love with Procrete on ipad, so I felt at home. The things that bother me is, first, there is not a pressure sensitivity adjuster, and second, brushes are not HD. I expressed my concerns to the developer, hopefully we will get more good updates soon.

Excellent video! My personal choice is Artflow, simply for the same reason you mention, the brushes. I'm doing mostly pen outline with watercolor and for that Artflow is just a lot better. I'm using IP as well though and often combine the 2 in my projects, adding a little Infinite Design as well. Sketchbook has some features I like, especially the markers are very good in it, but the layer limitation is stopping me from using it. 6 layers in 2017 is just too outdated. I'm hoping Sketchbook 4 with all it's new features will come to Android one day and then the choice will become harder.

I'm using Sketchbook Pro and Artflow on Android. I had the same problem with the accidental touch of the layers in Sketchbook but that was resolved by just hiding the menu and just using the thumb tab controls on the right screen to change the brushes easily and using that floating brush tab to quickly change color, brush size and opacity. There's also that quick swipe on the bottom dot for quick change to past brush. You no longer have to open that dot to do that.

artflow would be my best app but since there new update it has change to be like every other applications, you use to be able to touch the screen and move it up and down to change your pen pencil or brushes size and the smug tool was great and they have changed the way in which everything was so quick and easy to get to. if you check out the old version you will see what I mean. you have to do the new update or you loose your work or can send your work to others.

If you dig a bit into the Infinite Painter's interface, you'll find even more hyper-useful time-savers: three-finger gestures for brush size and opacity, three-finger-tap for interface hiding, drag-and-drop interface customization, extended layer panel with layer names. And there is tons more or functions hidden inside: extensive masking tools, filters and tonal adjustments with their own masking tools, clipping layers, perspective guides with geometric shapes (circles, rectangles) drawn in perspective, warp transformations, seamless patterns creator, and insane level of control over the brush behavior. If this is too little, upcoming version 6 (currently in advanced beta stage) will have serious support for stylus tilt (well, only for devices that support this feature) and even faster brush engine. Plus community sharing of brushes, color palettes etc. Let alone practically no limit for the number of layers.

I've used sketchbook for about 5 years, and draw exclusively on my phone. recently I have been branching out. I love infinite painter too. It has a stabilization tool, that I didn't need when I had my note edge -but is essential now that I paint with my finger. also noteworthy is clover paint. it's pricey but man packed with brushes and features that you wouldn't expect on a mobile device. (navigation window for starters) but it is cluttered! layer paint and medibang are decent. if you like clip studio, they are similar. Corel paint is getting better (it used to be terrible) and artrage is a blast. I've used nearly all of the Android painting apps. sketchbook is the most comfortable for me.

my favorite app would have to be medibang cause it's closest to clip studio paint pro with the brushes cause I mainly use watercolor brushes and I can edit and make textured brushes on the app. I also like infinite design which is like infinite painter but I think more vector o.o and I use it to draw more concept art for characters and stuff it's got a clearer screen to draw and though I can't do what I do like on medibang or clip studio paint it's still good for getting ideas down because the artistic brushes are like making random brush marks on a paper and drawing out what you see in it

I use this app on my galaxy tab a 10.1 for a couple months and it's amazing. It can export to psd file so I can work between my tablet and my PC conveniently. Brush setting is great. So easy to create my own brushes. For the in-app purchases, you can unlock all the tools and features in the store page. (The cart icon in option menu.) It cost me 269 thb (8 usd.) After 2 months I have a couple problems with this app, 1. Lasso tool kinda glitch sometime. When I make a selection area, the whole layer is invisible or just gone with no reason. I have to close the app and open it again. 2. The app frequently crash when I try to open the high resolution file. I have to copy the file into another device and open it to export psd file for backup. But overall I'm so happy with it. This app became my primary painting app.

Have to you ever tried Leonardo beta? I've just started using it and it is amazing! The perspective tools are really helpful and the interface is simplistic! The app is still in development I think but that just means there's way more to come! And it's dirt cheap right now compared to a lot of those high end stuff like Corel and adobe. I think you'd really enjoy this program. You should give it a try

I realize this video is 3 years old now, but my favorite app is Artflow. The interface just makes the most sense to me, and I first started using it on my Note 4 some time in 2014. I now have a tablet, and appreciate Artflow even more because you can map functions like brush size/opacity adjustment, and switching between *all* your tools to a bluetooth controller or keyboard to use like the express keys on a Cintiq. Perhaps I just haven't been able to find the feature, but I don't think Infinite Painter has similar hot key support. Panter is clearly still quite good, though. Artflow just definitely takes the top spot for me.

The best of them all is this weird japanese app called clover paint which does have a price and an extra in-app, panels and stuff extra payment to be done but it is just so powerfull, like brushes customization, and quite responsive, also keyboard for shorcuts ready. Give it a try, you would make an awesome review of it. Sadly there´s a steady learning curve as the workflow is kind of different but believe me. totally worth it. Also thanks for the surface pro review. I really love the machine and was expecting to buy it but I think I will wait till the next iteration. Cheers.

I used to use Ibis Paint X because I enjoyed that you could get access to all paid brushes for free for 18 hours. Then, I tried CSP but found their interface too intimidating. And then, I tried Medibang and had a hard time with grayscale. I have to say my favorite drawing app has to be Infinite Painter. You don't have a limit on undo's in the free version - I had 216 undo's in my first art piece on the application. I might just pay the 10 bucks because I absolutely love the app's interface, its minimalist style, and the brushes. My favorite brush is Combustion (to add glowing effects to the hair and eyes), along with the Clay Roller (which I use for coloring).

My favorite apps is Sketchbook even after trying most of those you reviewed. I like the fact it is available on every OS and that it is quite similar on each. Strangely, I prefer the render (?) on tablets version (iOS or Android) than on Windows version, but I don't know which one I prefer on the 2 windows versions. One has fullscreen mode, is more complete (desktop), the other is better with dial and has a better touch interface (app). Sketchable looked good but the free version is quite frustrating, you can't change the sizes of the brush, have any layers,... And I don't really like the way it saves the drawings. I prefer having a single file, I don't like the "book" system even if it looks cool that way. Medibang has too much things on the interface, especially on the iOS version on small iPad Pro. You don't have any more space to draw. The android and Windows version are less frustrating in that part.

Many things aren't working as before, for example the blending tool. I can't blend colors as before and this sucks. Also there are so many features I can't remember that they were there before and it's so confusing >¬< It's very cool that you have unlimited layers now but I miss my blending.. Also the brushes are a bit different. Not all but some of them. I would really appreciate it if you could make a video about the things that have changed with the update or if someone could tell me how things are working now xD

there is unlock all tools $5.99 when I 1st open. If you don't purchase then go to the store and it's there. I guess it is only available during the 1 week trial or at least that's how I'm understanding the wording.

The only downside is the eyedropper tool. I have to constantly go back and forth to use the eyedropper tool! If only it can hold and press on the screen and eyedropper tool pop up. It will be perfect to blend since you can barely blend on this app. Ugh frustration!

HI BRAD , what do you think of the 10.5 iPad pro for doing art? will you please review it sometime?

I probably won't be reviewing it but I think the old one is great and so an improved version with a bigger screen is a worthy upgrade.

Hi, thanks for the video. I use an older version of Sketchbook pro with an S3 S-pen on a Samsung tab S7+. I like the simplicity and interface of the older Sketchbook and the design of the S3 pen; the grip is better for me. I downloaded Infinite painter; I like it but can't import a pic?

Infinite Painter's interface is simply amazing, BUT (and it is a really big BUT) I've had problem after problem with stability. The app has some glitch that create gigantic blank squares in some drawings and sometimes, I've had a whole layer dissapearing and never coming back. I'm trying Sketchbook, which seems a bit heavier but so far, it didn't crash or nothing like that. Infinite Painter was a lot of fun, but I've lost too many drawings for bugs. =(
