I think everyone would love a comparison between the minicat and other inflatable brands like the smartkat.

Minicats are not competitive against inflatable catamarans from Ukraine and Russia. Smartcats slightly better. But boats from ex-USSR are cut from the different cloth.

The Grabner happy cat (Hurricane) is known to be faster than the mini cat. There are some videos about speed comparison. Would be nice to see a show down by multiple inflatable and sailed by experts like Joe.

We have this every year in spring at Altmühlsee in Germany. Open race for all brands of inflatable catamarans. Come there an see or watch the videos of the meeting

Joe, To get your jib tighter. When assembling the mini cat, go to the cleat that holds your forstay, make it tighter then you need it, then put jib on, and loosen the fore stay some, putting most of the tension on your jib. It’s okay to do this on the mini cats jib as it has a steel wire running through the luff.

Not a total shocker, but I still have to say it’s the only boat that can fly (as luggage) or fit in a small hatchback, for that it’s a winner, mast Cam is a nice touch.

I was expecting this - I thought i'd be able to match the Laser downwind though - even with the special stance I couldn't keep up.

Joe , thank you , very interesting info. I think, it is may be reasonable to compare Minicat with a Hobie Wave .. Mini is a recreational rather than competitive machine, in my view.

Yes, the MiniCat isn't designed to be competitive on the race course - I thought it would be interesting. It would be good to go head to head with a wave.

Very interesting. Did not expect that. On your previous videos, it looked quite fast but it's slower than a laser. I'd say however, more fun and relaxing. I wonder how that would go in higher winds. I also wonder how the minicat 460 would fare.

I think in more wind it would have been more even. The 460 would have been more competitive I would think. The catamaran generally really stretches it's legs on the reaches - and by that time - it was already game over in this light wind!

Another similar boat is the happy cat. It has a centerboard, and opened up and down wind

Interesting little cat and I can see where they can fill a need for something simple and easy. But as I discovered after sailing a friend’s Hobie Wave, if you’ve ever sailed on any higher performance beach cat these small boats will get boring in a hurry.

I think if you have an objective or you're taking people out then it stays interesting. However, i completely know what you mean.
