@@abiflo an easy way to think about it is like a digital trading card, you buy and own a unique piece of artwork and then (ideally) hold on to it until it increases in value where you then sell it for a profit. the reason they're bad for the environment is because of how both the artwork's digital "receipt" (the thing you actually pay for, anyone can download the jpeg but you own something that says you own it, if it sounds dumb that's because it is) and the cryptocurrency used to buy them are run on a blockchain. A blockchain is basically a HUGE series of complicated math problems that create the data and protect it, and high powered computers are needed to "solve" those problems to make and run the markets for NFTs and cryptocurrency, which is why they use a ton of energy. i'm not into NFTs, i think theyre really pointless and are bad investments on top of being bad for the environment, this is just how it was explained to me so hopefully it makes sense haha :)

For the person who is being harassed: this is interfering with your work. Talk to HR. If they fire you, that’s retaliation and you can sue them for that. @@bowynhendrix5871 yes! Also document interactions with the security guard and your manager. If you start hearing rumours or people start treating you differently document that to. Document your anxiety and the things either of them say, date time and place. It sucks but situations like these always escalate unless you get ahead of it. And if it interferes with your job or mental health you have reason to sue or at least threaten to do so. If you don't it will just keep getting worse and worse. To the first advice question, I recently turned 21, not even thinking I would make it past 18. My favorite advice to tell people is that everyone’s timeline is different. Who cares what you do/when you do it. It’s YOUR life, it’s YOUR story. If everyone had the same timeline, life would be extremely boring and depressing. Always try new things. It’s okay to fail, it means you’re learning, and use that as a life lesson for when you move forward. There’s always people to talk to. Best of luck, you got this !!
@averyfahl15562 жыл бұрын
Yes totally agree! I turned 21 recently too☺️ And I would say, another thing I’ve learned and try to remind myself is: no matter how scary the future can feel, you have to trust that when the time comes (to get a job or go apply to college, or whatever it might be) you’ll probably be more prepared than you think. Take it slow and really prioritize your own happiness.
@Zindai2 жыл бұрын
Can relate, I'm 29 and didn't think I'd get myself past 16. Things are a lot scarier when they're in the distance and you have time to ruminate. Once you're thrown into them it's really not that bad. We hear about the incredible planned out life journeys of others, but we overlook that we hear about them because they're special. Especially if you're a teen with depression/anxiety, it can be hard to know yourself as well as your peers do, and also hard to know what you'd want 10 years into the future. It's fine to keep options open and try various directions if you have the opportunity.

Wow thats a great way to put it. I'm 19 going up to 20 and I feel so... behind everyone? I started college in 2020 during corona and it fucking sucks. I feel like everyone is making friends around me, my old highschool friends getting into relationships, making new friends, being successful at college, settling in while i'm just sinking into this black hole of dependency and isolation. Feels like i'm wasting my time even tho I know I'm still so young...
@averyfahl15562 жыл бұрын
@@dontperceiveme3025 i've definitely felt behind my peers as well, but everyone is different. i've accepted that socializing is hard for me, and there's nothing wrong with that. it's still good to put myself out there, even if i'm an awkward mess most of the time...i just try and embrace it lol(: if you're being yourself you'll attract the right people! and again (something i continually have to remind myself when caught comparing my life to others), everyone has their own pace and their own path, it's okay to be slow or behind! just keep cruising in your own lane and it'll all work out

For the growing up person: It comes kind of naturally and slowly. I'm 19 and far from feeling like an adult, but I can definitely say I have grown since I was 16. I applied for university when I was 18, slowly settled into my very small apartment when only a year prior I was terrified of the thought of living alone :) You slowly learn how many things you can actually do on your own. Like traveling long distances per train, buying yourself stuff, going grocery shopping and making your own meals, spending time with yourself and being okay with that. It's the small things you realize you didn't do before and are now natural to you that makes you think "hey, i have grown!". I wish you all the best. Don't pressure yourself. And don't stick around for things that make you unhappy.

Related to the advice about growing up: Im 16 and I recently talked with my therapist about my own fear of growing up and my struggle with figuring out what I want to do or what I can even do with my mental illnesses. She told me that I don't need to worry about it if it's not something I want to do right now. This expectation that at 18 you have to 'become an adult' and get a job and a house/apartment/whatever isn't even possible for a lot of people. You need to focus on doing things at your own pace and doing what you want, not stressing about what you can't do or what you think you 'have' to do. One day, you will get a job and possibly go to college or whatever you want to do, but don't rush it. And don't worry about being like everyone else, you're you, do what you want to do in life

to the kid in the first advice: i think it's especially hard thinking about growing up when you're in that 15-16 year-old stage, before you start having more freedom as an almost-adult at 17-18 but feeling like you're growing up way too quickly - i was there once and i thought that fear would never pass. but i promise you it will - once you start being able to do more things and feel yourself becoming more mature as you get ready for your 20s the fear will slowly fade away even if you still feel like you don't know where you're going. i didn't know what i was going to do once i got to college and i still don't know as a 20 year old and i probably still won't know when i'm 25 or 30 but i can assure you that fear and anxiety over becoming an adult will naturally fade away. i know it's hard but enjoy being a kid in your teens and if you can, try to find what you love without thinking too hard about the future

That advice you gave on the future was so comforting to me. I have panic attacks on the regular thinking about the future as I am not good enough at any of the things I like to make a career out of them, and as a nearly 15 year old I already feel the pressure to have it figured out. I know it sounds ridiculous but it’s true. My school puts immense amounts of pressure on all of us to know what we want to do because “everything we do in school decides our future” apparently. Every time I tell my mum about it she tells me I don’t have to have it figured out now or that I have time, but it really doesn’t feel like it when I’m constantly reminded that my adulthood is only 3 years away. Despite this, hearing your advice made me feel quite a bit better, and for the first time I can think about this topic without crying, so I sincerely thank you so much for that

to the person questioning about growing up, you can go at your own pace and thats okay! i'm 19 and i have no desire to go to college, i still live with my parents and my boyfriend and have a retail job and no car. i am working towards a car and getting a place eventually, but you have sooo much time!

For the advice segment: to the teen worry about not knowing what they're going to do, I would say a majority of us feel that way. Or they have some vague concept of their future or maybe even something they go into college feeling really passionate about, and then realize a year or two later that they were completely wrong. Making kids that we consider not even old enough to vote choose what they're going to do with the rest of their lives makes no sense, and you shouldn't feel bad for not being able to do that. I worked for two years after high school, went to college for three years and realized that I wasn't in the right major. Now I'm almost done with my degree and I'm heading into something that I really do love. It all comes together eventually. Young adulthood is all about making mistakes and trying again, the most important part is just trusting yourself and the process. Which in some ways is scarier than having a set path you care nothing about, for sure, but it feels so much better. I promise. And to the person experiencing harassment: go to HR!! If they brush it under the rug/try to fire you over it, then that isn't the workplace for you. I can't imagine how amazing it must feel to have your first "big girl" job, but there are other "big girl" jobs out there. Create a good support network for yourself if things may go south, and do what you have to do for your safety. Y'all got this.

The whole influencers going to Mexico and partying on the plane and even being extremely disrespectful to the hotel they are staying at is absolutely appalling and the fact that I live 30 minutes away from way they are staying now is scary to think about, can't believe that because of people like this I can't go to school or see my friends and family, also we are now stuck with them

to the kid scared of becoming an adult - i’m almost 19 and i’ve felt the same way for the majority of my teens,, and i mean this with every fibre of my being: you genuinely just figure it out as you go along. if you can, talk to your parents/guardian/teachers about it!!! ask about the process of applying for jobs and colleges!! ask about utility bills and how paying for them works!! ask about the process of renting/buying property!!!! i can assure you in a couple of years, it won’t feel as scary and intimidating as you once thought. adult stuff is overwhelming but i promise it’ll be okay

To the one anxious about growing up: i was in your situation too, and the best advice I can give you is that you will figure it out, but it will take time to know what you want to do. After high school I did one year of uni where i just took classes that interested me or that I thought I might be good at. A lot of subjects change between high school and college. Another thing that changes is you; in high school, a huge part of your identity is being a student, figuring out friends and relationships etc. After you graduate, all those big things feel a lot smaller, and it allows you space to explore new things you hadn’t thought of. I became a flight attendant, and then returned to school at 20 to become a psychologist. I only figured out I loved psychology through my experience flying. If school isn’t what you like, explore travel/exchanges/trades/leisure classes. My dad started university at 33, and we are doing fine! TL;DR So, give yourself time. You’re young. You’re in no rush, and don’t let anyone make you feel like you are.

I talk about aging a lot with my mom, and she says the same thing that you never really feel like an adult. She told me that she had an out of body experience one day when she was around 40 and walking into the house she felt like it hit her very strangely that she was grown up like "This is the house I own with my husband. I'm married. I have four children. How did I get here?" a la "Once in a Lifetime" by the Talking Heads. It didn't seem possible that she could be grown up enough to have all that stuff, but there she was! My mom has always been fun and engaged with life and has what people call a "youthful energy" -- she likes those quotes about how getting older is mandatory but aging/acting older is optional and I feel like there's some truth to that. You get older but can still incorporate the curiosity and excitement of childhood in ways that are compatible with your adult life.

For the last advice question, if you’re still anxious to go to your bosses boss, maybe try going to your boss one last time and say it’s still an issue if you can’t help me then I’ll find someone that can. That way if you do have to go to their superior you can say that you’ve already brought it up multiple times to your boss and they have done nothing. I wish I would have been able to say something at my old job, but instead deslt with the harassment and that shouldn’t be something you have to deal with. Hope all goes well!

I grew up Mormon so I have seen tons of weird couples like girl defined and their spouses. I personally know a couple where the wife admitted she wasn’t attracted to her spouse but married him because everyone pressured her to, saying that he’s “such a good Mormon man”. They didn’t kiss until their wedding, probably went all the way that night, which was likely very traumatic since they both grew up in intense purity culture. Decades later they have had three kids and can’t stand each other, but don’t feel comfortable getting a divorce because in Mormonism you marry for eternity, not til death do you part. I got caught up in that whole trap and married when I was only 20. Fortunately, my now ex husband and I were attracted to each other and in love, and both of us had been questioning the church for years. We decided to get a court marriage rather than a church marriage because we felt uncomfortable with the religious idea of marrying for eternity. A year later, we separated and got divorced, so happy to have gotten out early instead of ending up like so many unhappy couples. I’m especially happy we did not get pregnant because that would have definitely complicated things.

I really think going to the big boss and telling them that there's a conflict of interest going on since your supervisor is letting this very messed up situation slide cuz what they're buddies?? If there's an HR dept you could report that to and file a formal statement, that's really important as well. Hope things get better :((

First question asker, I was in pretty much the same spot at 16. I'm 19 now and I just want to let you know it will work out. You're young and have so much time to figure yourself out. Don't be afraid to try things if they seem interesting or to drop them if you don't like it after all. I didn't have a solid plan for my adulthood at all through high school, but now that I'm here and I'm doing it it's actually way less scary then I thought it would be. It is true that everyone is just making it up as they go along, and you will too, but it's more freeing and less anxiety producing than you think. You're younger than you think you are and truly my best advice is to let things happen as they happen and try not to live so much in the future. The present is so much more exciting.

Sally - talk to HR if your company has one. Not only about the security guard, but also about your supervisor's inaction when you came for help. Talk to your boss's boss if you have no HR reps/dept. Same topics.
