@@zaya9993 also a trans guy here, but when i was in middle school i identified as a (cis) lesbian, and i got harassed by dudes all the time. one guy even texted my cousin asking him if i was single, and when he said "no, also [he's] a lesbian" the dude threw a fit and called me a bunch of insults. and that was the usual response, whenever guys found out i wasnt interested they did a complete 180 and acted like they hated me. ngl i think the video had a point to an extent, abt the lack of emotional support men receive from society at large-- its true that men dont get a lotta genuine compliments like "you look beautiful" or "i love your outfit," and most men dont feel comfortable asking for comfort or reassurance when theyre lacking confidence, bc thats seen as weak or "unmanly." there is a huge stigma against seeking support as a man, and in extreme cases that leads to the male suicide rate being 3.7x higher than the female rate. BUT!!! what really pisses me off abt that video, and the general attitude towards sexism in general, is when ppl try to make it a competition-- arguing over "who has it worse, men vs women" is just not the right way to go about this conversation at all. misogyny and misandry coexist and are interconnected, privilege and disenfranchisement arent mutually exclusive, having advantages in one regard doesnt cancel out the disadvantages in the other. its called intersectionality, and its critical to feminism and social justice as a whole, but unfortunately not enough ppl understand it yet. sorry lol that was long, im just really passionate abt this as someone whos been burned by both MRAs and radfems lmao

Shit I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope you're doing better now. I'm currently going through the same thing, I took a job that's completely remote and then was basically a hermit until I got my two shots of Moderna and even then, I'd wear my mask, have disinfectant and alcohol on hand and I would see these people remove their masks in public places or be making out or sneezing into food like.. Just cause we're vaxxed, doesnt mean the virus isnt lingering around, why others are completely throwing caution to the wind, I will never understand.
@naomililley4838
@naomililley4838 2 жыл бұрын
No? Like yes but no. Lockdown would happen, cases would go down. Lockdown stops, cases go up. At this point it doesn't matter what we do or how many people are vaxxed, there will still be a spread once we start lifting restrictions unfortunately. Especially with omicron, the transmission is so high, at this point its not 'if' you get it, it's 'when'. But the way that viruses work is they mutate to the point where they're mild, but very transmissable until it becomes an endemic (and then just seasonal like the flu). So hopefully omicron is the start of that.

"People who take film criticism so seriously bug me" *Thank you, oh my god.* I feel like nowadays, it's so hard to legit get excited or enjoy certain movers because if "Cynical Movie Hater McGee" feels the need to bash any movie that isn't re-inventing the industry. I'm frankly getting tired of countless movie reviews bashing otherwise quality movie because of minor nitpicks. I just want to be excited for a piece of media without being swarmed with tweets and reviews pointing out every flaw in it.

@mathisb9465
@mathisb9465 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with Kurtis on that quote, but I don't think the "anyone should enjoy this" is a good take either. I'm a huge Spider-Man fan, I watched the old movies dozens of times through streaming even though I had to sit through 2h of ads , I read his books, I played with his action figures all the time, I drew hundreds (maybe thousands) of Spidey drawings and comics , and I still do, so I was hyped for the new movie, but simply didn't enjoy it. I don't care about plot holes and all, but the movie just changes some characters in ways that make no sense at all just for them to make decisions they would have never made in the og movies. Without talking about how some scenes could've hit very hard but were filmed in an underwhelming way. I still like some things about it, like how Peter handles his responsibilites, but I was disappointed, and i think my criticism is fair. I'm happy others enjoy it tho. If the review he watched is in bad faith I understand he's mad about it, but he also seems to blame anyone who dislikes it, and blaming people for not personally liking something is the same as blaming them for liking something

@nomoretwitterhandles
@nomoretwitterhandles 2 жыл бұрын
Just gonna say this: YES you should tell men they should support feminism because it benefits them too! A lot of the people who are against feminism (which btw, includes a LOT of women, believe it or not...) are simply uneducated about what feminism actually stands for. The most common misconception is that of a neoliberal who screams at men and tells them that they're worthless and shitty because women are simply better than they are. You know, misandrists. Also, about half of the female population in the United States voted for Trump in 2016. Hating women isn't a male-exclusive thing. It's a PATRIARCHY-exclusive thing. Ever heard of pick-me girls? Those "not like other girls" girls? Yeah, they hate women too. So let's start with educating men instead of like... treating them like idiots for "not knowing better" in a society that literally teaches them to think that way?
@duresh08
@duresh08 2 жыл бұрын
The video said nothing about being against feminism. It was just a take on the desire for men to be validated. A lot of it has to do with toxic masculinity and I completely understand your POV and acknowledge the immense privilege men are provided but I do have to agree that men are not validated as much as women are. I in my entire 21 years have never received flowers and have been validated in public by women very few times and I remember all of them. It really does light us up and make us feel desired. My girlfriend now validates me all the time and it makes me so happy and the feeling is so foreign to me fr. That's all that should be taken from it imo. Validate the men in your life. That's it.

@@nomoretwitterhandles women are in general validated about their appearance more per se, a lot more than men are (ofc a lot of the time unwarranted and inappropriate leading to SA as well which is absolutely horrifying). I think the underlying message was just to validate your male counterparts and male figures in your life. It’s a very simple message and I do stand by it. However I do definitely understand your point of view. Women have their own struggles and I myself am a feminist and acknowledge my privilege as a male. However I feel that validating the men in our lives is something that would really go a long way in our hearts. I hope I am not being disrespectful and I have put my point across appropriately.

The issue is that it supports us in theory. By the base definition, everyone should be a feminist. The issue is that there is a very vocal minority of people and supporting media outlets who hate men and actively dismiss men's issues. When we bring up issues like prison rape, suicides, homelessness, war casualties, we get dismissed immediately. Edit: changed woman to people

What Kurtis said speaking about women's issues and immediately getting those people who are like "are you saying men have no issues" is so true. This literally happens to me everytime I'm trying to talk about something like this when guys are around. They always rush into make it about men trying to one up every problem a woman experiences. It's so unbelievably infuriating because I feel it doesn't come from a place of wanting acknowledgement for men's issues but from a place of not wanting to admit that women go through shit too. All the time I hear how women are living life on easy mode because we can "fuck whoever we want" or get attention from easily. Like is that all that there is to us? Are we literally just supposed to be there to be desired by others, which is apparently the only thing that matters to us? Man all that I'm saying is that hearing women out and admitting that we struggle won't take anything away from you. Some people love acting that we are so weak and emotional but suddenly we rule the world with an iron fist because men want to fuck us.

Other people have already pointed out that women getting compliments usually = harassment, but I'd like to add that a lot of the guys who make this argument usually imply that it's the sole responsibility of women to start complimenting men more. This is dumb for multiple reasons: A) 9 times out of 10 this backfires because most men have been socialized to interpret even bare minimum friendly positive attention from women as flirting. B) one of the reasons women get more compliments is because women compliment each other. So if you want men to be complimented more, start complimenting other men. Be the change you want to see, cause I can't change the fact that women are objectified as early as 12, but you can certainly change the fact that you aren't complimenting the homies to normalize it in your friend groups.

The compliments he talks about has to be only about looks, because I can't think of a single situation where a guy wouldn't get a compliment for what he is doing, if he is succeeding. School work? Compliments. Sports achievements? Compliments. Literally any positive social interaction? Compliments. And even then, I remember being called a "handsome young man" a million times as a kid. What the fuck is that Tik Tok guy even talking about. Even at my heaviest weight, I was literally obese, I would still get compliments about my smile and eyes. I 100% did not fit the traditional standard of what a man should look like and I still was complimented.

You're like, what, one man? It's true that most men don't typically receive a lot of compliments, especially for how they look. Lots of guys talk about this, how they'll cling onto a compliment they've gotten years ago, etc... Like, do you live under a rock lol? That doesn't make what he's saying okay, but he's right about most men not getting compliments. You can mock him without being completely pretentious about how oh-so-great you are with how many compliments you've gotten.

@@nomoretwitterhandles hardly think he was being pretentious at all, he was only sharing his experience as a man. plus, he said the dude in the view “must be talking abt physical looks” which rings more true. most dudes are complimented abt plenty of things all the time, just not on their physical appearance quite as much as women are which are typically the compliments men “cling onto.”

@@jasminrodriguez6807 Validation isn't only about compliments, you know. It's about receiving love, flowers, gratitude, gifts, and genuine praise. Not the bullshit the patriarchy just hands to men, like jobs or raises or scholarships. So many men are starved of GENUINE attention. So many men are starved of GENUINE love. So many men are starved of GENUINE COMPLIMENTS. When men say they don't receive a lot of compliments, they're not talking about their fucking success. That's why OP was being pretentious; they brought up all of their amaaaazing accomplishments and all the praise they received, but how much of that praise was personal and genuine? Are they just being egotistical? Because it seems that way to me. No empathetic person says "people don't suffer because I'M so good and so wonderful and I get a lot of attention!". Men die more frequently from suicide than women do, but women attempt suicide at higher rates than men. The proposed explanation for this is that men are more likely to use suicide methods that are less likely to fail (like shooting yourself) whereas woman use methods that are more likely to fail or give more time for interceptive treatment (like overdosing).
