In 2001, Dr. Ingo Titze gave the University of Iowa's 2001 Presidential Lecture called "Fascinations with the Human Voice".
About the lecture, Titze said, "The first fascination I'll discuss is how it's possible that such great sounds can come from basically a fairly lousy instrument."
The other four fascinations he discussed include:
-what our voice tells others about us-from social upbringing to our mood;
-how well the voice and the ear work together ;
-how powerful the voice can be in terms of protecting ourselves (or others) from danger or revealing emotions;
-how easy it is to simulate the vocal bravado in great singers using computers , yet how difficult it is to simulate simple ordinary speech.
The actul lecture is also on our KZbin Channel. The lecture was the precursor to a book of the same name: ncvs.org/produc...
