I really like Monaco red. One of the first inks I used. Very underrated red.

Thanks, Paul - yes, it was the main thought I had, because I just couldn't ever get a good feel for the colour of an ink with the short reviews I've seen. It was always good/interesting to see the chromatography tests, and to hear how fast drying the inks were, but to be honest, they didn't help me pick one. I wanted a decent chunk of writing and some comparisons showing one ink against another, side-by-side. Hopefully, this way will help a lot more people!

I say - that Amaranth is incredible, what a surprise each one is........ it's like unwrapping a parcel each time you try a new bottle. Thoroughly enjoying these ink videos. Now what is that circular pattern behind you on the wall between the windows, it looks like a Celtic knot of some kind?? Perhaps a coat of arms maybe??

OH, that's a Bodhran which I bought twenty years ago when I visited Ireland. I liked the pattern, and I love the drums, but, as with most things, I"ve never managed to make time to learn how to use it properly!

haha, I was in a hurry that day! I agree with your feelings about the burgundy - one I love just now is the Rohrer und Klingner Alt-Bordeaux, which is spectacular.

It would be hard to pick just one, but in addition to the Monaco I rather like the looks of the Matador as well. Always on the lookout for a red, haven't found one I like - but frankly could easily select one from this group. // BZ - nicely done!

So many good looking reds! I know you mention good outlining from time to time as you see it, I'm wondering which red would you say has the best outlining?

Hmm - first thing I would say is, bear in mind that different papers have different results. Having said that, you also need to bear in mind that this is entirely subjective! However, if pressed, I would say that probably Matador would be first, and Maroon second - but it's really difficult to gauge, to be honest. The different tones and shades are deceptive, and even after peering at them through a magnifying glass for long enough to induce a mild headache, I'm not certain! I'd probably recommend that you go for the colour/shade you like the most. of those two.
