Ink Master artists are randomly paired with canvases: some are easygoing, others are not. These artists couldn’t reach an agreement with their canvas about the tattoo they were about to get, leaving them in a tough spot.

Danger had a point. Being a master tattooer has nothing to do with “knowing how to deal with problem clients”. Every real life master tattooer will REFUSE any client they want to, especially if they’re giving them a hard time.
@gothicMCRgirl
@gothicMCRgirl 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that goes for any artistic job, be it a painting, a logo, web design, whatever. If the artist and the client can’t meet in the middle, then the artist has the right to move on and not work with that person, cause what’s the point? The result is going to upset the client no matter what, so it’d be a waste of time.

I respect Danger for not tattooing himself. Even though the judges tried to say he had the perfect opportunity and client (himself), he didn't want that tattoo and that's a decision that cost him the competition, but ultimately saved him from having regrets about getting a tattoo he ultimately didn't even want.

Honestly, I think Danger was totally right to tell that person that he wasn't the right tattoo artist for her. Artists have just as much a right to feel safe as their clients do. I knew there was gonna be an issue as soon as Danger's canvas said, 'you were yelling at me yesterday.' He absolutely was not. He was anxious, I think she was secretly too anxious to be there, too, and her nervousness rubbed Danger the wrong way. Or she was paid by the runners to be a pain. Either way. ETA: Danger did nothing wrong, just to be clear. He handled it as well as he could and, yeah, professional artists can turn people away. Especially if they're so talented that their books are probably filled a year in advance.

@@dhruvigadhia1297 I find a lot of wrong with that. First of all if you go to a tattoo artist and you don't like the sketch you still have to pay for it. Second the sketch was not that big of a problem, her problem was that she didn't trust the artist and expected special treatment. What is reasonable if you pay for a tattoo but this was a competition. The tattoo artist has no obligation to you that should be very clear. If you sign up for a free tattoo it should be clear to everyone that it is possible to get something that you don't like. Not every canvas gets tattooed by the next ink master so you should be aware that you don't always get what you want. If you don't want the risk of a bad tattoo, don't volunteer for it. If you're going to nitpick designs just go to the artist you like and pay for that like a normal human being and not sign up for a competition tattoo. In addition to that, I think that his behaviour was off because he was stressed as hell and scared, maybe even disappointed in himself and his previous design. He wanted redemption and a possibility to prove himself once again in being an artist but this opportunity was destroyed before he even started. As a tattoo artist myself, I would also be sad and angry and hurt that I lost this kind of chance, so I don't think it's okay to shame him for his stern attitude. 6:56 honestly in this situation Danger did a great job handling it. If he struggles with keeping calm separating himself from the conflict for a second is a good action to take, of course it was absolutely perfect but it's far better from other conflicts I've seen. He softened his tone, tried to communicate, put the past behind him, etc...

After watching a good bit of this show I can say for sure that the best possible way, as a canvas, to leave with a great tattoo is to come in with multiple ideas of very simple designs that could work with many different styles. For example, come in knowing an animal you would want tattooed, a monument, a historical figure, a symbol, a planet, a flower, a quote etc... and then make it as simple as possible and put it in a location that is easy to tattoo (if you are able to choose location). At this point in time anyone wanting to be a canvas on the show should do their homework and watch a few seasons so they get an idea of challenges to expect and can see how complicated tattoos on fussy canvases turn out. You are getting a free tattoo on a TV competition. It is not like you walked into their shop, threw down 2 grand and can get exactly what you want in the style you like. If that is what you want, then find a good artist and pay up.

Honestly as a hairstylist that has to work on clients as well… I respect James for telling a client that had the potential of not being happy no matter what he did that he was NOT the artist for her. In reality some people are not mentally healthy or just have an attitude. It was more than obvious she was trying instigate him therefore the PROFESSIONAL thing to do is to do what he did. Avoid a bigger problem by not continuing with a potential problem just to get a paycheck. He was actually smart if it was a real world situation.

Natalie picked and picked at Danger on purpose. She said herself she wanted him to change his attitude, not the design, that was so toxic. She made problems with him because she never intended to get a tattoo in the first place. Also the judges said to kiss her ass and do what she wanted, but in later challenges they bashed artists for doing just that. They have literally told artists to not give the canvases a choice and to do what they think is best. And of course he didn't want a colorful feminine phoenix on himself that he designed for someone else. Honestly canvases shouldn't even have a choice in what they get so long as the imagery isn't offensive. These artists can't freely show all they can do with these picky people crying about their FREE tattoos, that in any good shop would cost hundreds of dollars.

1000% agree. Everyone is told what they're signing up for and canvases that don't like what the artist is going to be doing then needs to straight up get out and they need to have a back up canvas replace them. Not everyone is compatible and comfortable with everyone and things happen but this is on TV and it's a FREE tattoo, some of these tattoos are legit worth thousands of dollars in a regular tattoo parlor and these people just need to sit down and deal with it or they can walk away and not get it done. So a lot of people in the comments are saying the artist should try harder to work with the client. These are not clients. They are not paying for these tattoos, they are getting free ink for a challenge. The challenges are explained to the canvas beforehand and they can walk away rather than argue and waste these people's time.
@Kadasberry11
@Kadasberry11 2 жыл бұрын
Given these “not clients” argue tells me they in fact have the power to voice disapproval with their tattoos. Production contracts are pretty black & white so if they were only meant to shut up and get tattooed, as you would presume they should, then that’s exactly what would happen- canvases would be slabs of meat. Like it’s been said time and time again, the canvases are still people.

It's pretty simple actually. Blaming James for the situation (even though it wasn't even remotely his fault) puts an extremely thin veil over a fatal flaw the show made. They messed up not having a backup canvas for him and they can't exactly not eliminate him when he wasn't able to tattoo anything. The judges obviously looked extremely foolish however the ONLY other alternative they could have gone with to cover up the error is if they didn't eliminate anyone.

Danger did nothing wrong. He was trying his best to be accommodating. And every time he tried to give her room, she went on the attack. Like girl, if he is so stressed that he's shaking, that's not a time to say "but what about me?" He's not comfortable. And going on and on about how you're a human, while ignoring the human who is clearly distressed doesn't look good. I felt so bad for him. Even though he lost the competition, he made the right choice. It's not right to be expected to get a permanent tattoo you don't want over a competition, and one person being a jerk to you.
